Chapter 403 - 217: If She Thinks It’s Worth It, Then It Is

Chapter 403 - 217: If She Thinks It’s Worth It, Then It Is

"Lucas, have you ever calculated how much it would really cost to make such a drama series?!" Edward Foster was dumbfounded. He thought he was sycophantic enough, but here was someone even better at it!Moreover, he was flattering in a subtle, effortless way.

Lucas Harlow glanced at him and said lightly, "How much could it cost?"

"Let’s not talk about money for now. The main issue is that producing a series takes a long time, and even after it’s made, there’s no guarantee it will be aired on a major network. And even if it airs, there’s no guarantee it will be a hit! — Have you really thought it through? Is it really worth it?" Edward Foster wanted to roll up his sleeves and shake Lucas Harlow by the collar to see if he could drain the nonsense out of his head.

Lucas Harlow didn’t even look at him. He picked up his phone and said, "...If she thinks it’s worth it, then it is."

Edward Foster: "..."

He stared blankly at Lucas Harlow, feeling that his figure was growing taller, forcing him to look up. And that towering presence almost became an oppressive force, squeezing out the "small" hidden beneath his own skin. (Note: This segment draws from Lu Xun’s "A Little Incident").

Leaving Lucas Harlow’s lounge, Edward Foster was almost in a daze.

Back in his office, he sat for a long time before calling in the head of the company’s content department, saying, "We’ve secured some investment and plan to produce a drama series. Go and pick out a few novels we have the rights to for me to see."

The head of the content department was quite pleased and asked, "What kind of stories is Mr. Foster looking for?"

"Which stories are particularly engaging? Something with a deeply stirring romance," Edward Foster said listlessly, fiddling with a black iridium pen in his hand. "The male lead’s image should be suitable for Lucas Harlow."

The head of the content department was taken aback for a moment, "Lucas Harlow? Doesn’t he not act in TV dramas? Mr. Foster, I do have a script here, a costume drama, which suits Arthur Johnson perfectly. He’s our company’s top star, one of the few actors who can guarantee viewership. And with him starring, there’s no worry about selling the series."

Edward Foster lifted his eyelids and looked at him with a stern face, "...I’m here to get a script, not to decide the male lead."

The head of the content department felt a chill down his spine and immediately laughed, "Mr. Foster is right. I was just making a suggestion, no other intentions."

Edward Foster waved him off to leave.

Before the afternoon ended, Edward Foster received two script outlines.

One was a historical fantasy, telling the story of a righteous senior brother who strayed into the devil’s path for his junior sister. Later, to save the world, he gave up the idyllic life he could have had with her and sacrificed himself to the heavens.

The other was a futuristic sci-fi, about an apocalyptic invasion where alien creatures conquered Earth. The male lead, as the last member of a special forces unit, fought to the bitter end, refusing to surrender. Yet when he perished with the invaders, he was transported ten years into the post-apocalyptic future. The world was torn apart, without order or justice, only survival of the fittest. Unable to continue saving the world, he chose to search for his fiancée, whom he lost ten years ago. After a series of bittersweet reunions and dramatic twists, they finally reunite, but in the end, he sacrifices himself to reboot the world, resulting in everyone losing memories of his existence, including his fiancée.

Along with the script outlines, the head of the content department also attached two concept images of the male lead, both modeled after Lucas Harlow.

Edward Foster looked at them for a while, finding it hard to decide.

He couldn’t resist taking the script outlines and the concept images to find Lawrence Winters.

"Lawrence, take a look at these two scripts," Edward Foster handed the outlines to Lawrence Winters first.

Lawrence Winters quickly read through them and said excitedly, "I like the second one! Futuristic sci-fi, the remnants of an apocalypse; I can no longer save the world, so I choose to save myself! How lucky it would be to be loved by such a man!"

Edward Foster couldn’t help but point to the ending, "Look at the last part... Do you still think it’s so lucky?"

Lawrence Winters had only skimmed the details earlier, missing the ending.

Reminded by Edward Foster, he read it carefully and immediately choked up, "...How could it be like this? He saved the world, and dying himself would be enough, but why erase everyone’s memory of him?! Especially even his fiancée forgot him! How is that okay?! How is that okay?! I don’t accept it! I don’t accept it!"

Edward Foster reminded, "It was you who requested something realistic and deeply stirring with the heroine. In the end, not only did he die for the heroine, but she also forgot him. — The audience will definitely remember this character."
