Chapter 382 - 206: Don’t Give Them Any Sweetness

Chapter 382 - 206: Don’t Give Them Any Sweetness

This meal was a pleasant one for both the guests and the hosts. When Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne left, they had already arranged with Ian Lothrop that when he had time, they would visit Lawrence’s uncle and grandmaster at their home.

After the two returned home, Nick Zeller and the Daoist quickly called Lawrence into Nick’s studio to ask what exactly had happened today.

Lawrence explained the collaboration between him and Kenneth, and of course, it was because they were "drifting" on the highway, alarming some people, that today’s meal happened.

The Daoist, upon hearing the story, didn’t worry much except regarding Kenneth’s ability to follow Lawrence’s directions clearly, he laughed, "Was this Kenneth’s first time collaborating with you? Then he’s really quite skilled."

"Yeah, Kenneth is really good at driving!" Lawrence praised Kenneth enthusiastically, trying to divert Nick and the Daoist’s attention.

Unfortunately, these two people’s attention wasn’t easily diverted, especially when it was focused on money.

Nick asked with a stern face, "You didn’t let Kenneth hear your secret formula, did you?"

"No, no! He doesn’t understand the heavenly stems and earthly branches at all. Even if I recited it to him, he wouldn’t know how to use it," Lawrence said, waving his hands urgently, "You have to trust me!"

Nick glared at her, saying, "Do less of this kind of thing in the future! Why were those two following you? Was it trouble you caused, or Kenneth?"

Lawrence wouldn’t say it was Kenneth, as that would make the elders at home dislike him even more...

Lawrence smiled and said, "Actually, I don’t know. It’s probably because of my past with my uncle, or the Spencer Group."

Nick furrowed his brows, "You haven’t looked at Feng Shui with me for over half a year, so no one should be targeting you."

"But the Spencer Group might be." Nick nodded, "You caused them a big loss before; they would certainly want to get back at you."

Lawrence nodded repeatedly, "Yeah, yeah, yeah! I always knew they were petty! I’ll definitely be careful in the future!"

Anyway, the Spencer Group had already been blackened enough at their home, so it wouldn’t matter to put another blame on them.

Previously, the mess Summer Spencer caused for Molly Zimmerman always made Lawrence feel that Nick resented it even more than she did.

So she dared to boldly pin today’s stalking on the Spencer Group.

After all, Nick wouldn’t confront those two, and the two were taken away by someone behind Francis Johnson, and whether they could come out in this lifetime was uncertain.

Therefore, she spoke very frankly.

Nick and the Daoist exchanged a glance and surprisingly didn’t doubt her story at all.

Nick even scoffed, saying, "The Spencer Group was founded by that old bastard Cameron Spencer. Like the boss, like the employees. —None of them are decent!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah! Uncle is right!" Lawrence turned into a little echoing bug, madly flattering him.

...

Coming out of Nick’s studio, Lawrence went to see what Kenneth was doing.

Kenneth had just changed into casual clothes and was on his computer working on a budget plan.

Lawrence quietly walked over and asked with a smile at the door, "Kenneth, what are you doing?"

Kenneth smiled and waved at her, "I’m working on a budget."

Lawrence curiously walked over, peeked at his computer screen.

The categories, quotes, personnel expenses, and procurement items made her head spin.

"...Kenneth, if you spend like this, no amount of money will be enough for you..." Lawrence clicked her tongue, "Soon you won’t be a billionaire."

Kenneth had set up a fifty million trust fund for Joyce Shaw’s posthumous child. The rest of his money was almost all invested in the company’s research and development.

He sighed to Lawrence, "Nora, I told you. Doing research and development is really money-burning. Ten billion may seem like a lot, but hiring a hundred employees only covers five years of expenses."

"The major cost is in procuring hardware equipment for experiments, especially the mini supercomputers."

"If we can’t develop something truly impressive in artificial intelligence within five years, this money will be wasted."

"Kenneth, you can definitely do it!" Lawrence placed her hands on his shoulders, showing great confidence in him, "In five years, maybe your company will be listed, and you’ll be ringing the bell on NASDAQ!"

"My goal isn’t that ambitious yet." Kenneth shook his head with a smile, "My short-term goal is to make the company a unicorn company within five years."

"What’s a unicorn company?" Lawrence asked curiously, "Is it not a metaphysical term?"

Of course not." Kenneth laughed, "This is a term in venture capital, referring to a high-tech startup founded less than ten years ago but valued at one billion."

"Huh? Aren’t you already a billionaire now?!" Lawrence asked puzzled, pointing at the ten billion in Kenneth’s account.

"Valuation of one billion isn’t about cash," Kenneth explained, "Valuation is about earnings; it’s about the money you earn on your costs."

"Simply put, if your annual income is fifty million, your valuation would be one billion. Because a simple valuation is usually gross revenue times twenty, without considering any risks."

Lawrence let out a long "oh," winking at him with a smile, "Kenneth, you’re really increasingly looking like a capitalist; I feel like I want to be exploited by you."

"Really? So do you want to be fleeced by me, or cut down by me?" Kenneth raised an eyebrow at her, his phoenix eyes lightly gleaming, sending waves of affectionate gaze like tides.

Lawrence: "!!!"

"...Neither. You better just focus on making money..." Lawrence covered Kenneth’s eyes with her hands, not wanting to admit her heart almost skipped a beat.

That tingly feeling was back again.

Kenneth laughed and pulled her hand away, just about to speak, when suddenly his phone let out a beeping sound which wasn’t a ringtone or alarm but seemed like some kind of program alert.

He immediately gathered his expression, slid over the mouse, and quickly opened a program.

The display showed a winding, maze-like semiconductor circuit diagram.

And some nodes on that diagram quietly turned red.

"What’s going on?" Lawrence couldn’t understand that circuit diagram, but seeing Kenneth’s expression, she knew something must have happened.

Kenneth stared at the screen and said, "...Someone is tampering with the program I sold to Wayford Intelligence."
