Chapter 366 - 199: You Little Mischief
This time there were no strange happenings; the two of them arrived safely at the place where Madwoman’s sister currently lives.Along the way, Kenneth Osborne subtly asked Lawrence Winters how he was giving directions earlier. Lawrence always shrugged: "It’s just the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. Moving in different directions can give a labyrinth-like feeling. That’s it."
Kenneth roughly understood that Lawrence "knew how to but didn’t know why."
In other words, she knew how to achieve the effect but didn’t understand why doing so would achieve it.
So he stopped questioning her. It wasn’t until they reached the entrance of Madwoman’s sister’s apartment that Kenneth said, "Don’t tell anyone about what happened just now."
"Got it. I won’t even tell my uncle and Grandmaster." Lawrence nodded with a smile and turned to look at the six-story apartment building in front of her. She clicked her tongue and said, "The scenery here is so nice, and the buildings are all low-rise."
"Yeah, you see, there are villas over there, just a few six-story apartment buildings here," Kenneth said, walking with Lawrence towards the apartment building’s glass elevator.
As they entered, Kenneth hesitated for a moment before saying, "Nora, this money really needs to be invested into the company. Research and development are very costly... Ten billion looks like a lot, but to really hire people and expand, ten billion isn’t enough to last two years."
Lawrence looked at him in surprise, "Kenneth, why do you keep talking about this money? Didn’t you say it belongs to the company, not yours?"
Kenneth said, "...I... I was thinking maybe we should buy a big house. I can’t keep living at your place."
"Is that so..." Lawrence laughed and winked at Kenneth, "Actually, Kenneth, living at my place is great. It’s so convenient for us to meet!"
"You don’t mind?" Kenneth glanced at her.
"Of course I don’t mind. I’d be thrilled. You staying at my place saves me worrying about you messing around with other women after work..." Lawrence said mischievously.
Kenneth pressed the elevator floor button and looked at the colorful autumn scenery outside, smiling, "Are you really worried about that? Even if I don’t live with you, I wouldn’t mess around with other women."
"Well, I trust you now, and I know you’re sincere when you say that. But who knows what might happen in the future? So it’s always better to be prepared," Lawrence stood casually, hands resting on the railing inside the elevator.
Kenneth thought, over time, Nora will come to trust him. So he changed the subject and said, "The scenery here is really nice; it’s just a pity it’s so far from the city."
"It’s just a place to come and relax on weekends," Lawrence looked around, "and I don’t really like mountain climbing, so the natural scenery is fine just to watch on TV."
Kenneth couldn’t help but laugh, "You’ve studied so much feng shui, and yet you don’t like mountain climbing?"
"It’s exactly because I’ve studied too much feng shui that I don’t like mountain climbing," Lawrence said seriously. "For others, it’s a vacation or a hobby; for me, it’s work. No one wants to work on vacation, right?"
"Your questionable logic always seems to convince me," Kenneth pinched her apple cheeks, "and you always manage to convince me."
Lawrence batted a flirty look at him with a smile.
The two of them were bantering and flirting in the elevator when it unexpectedly reached the sixth floor.
The elevator doors opened, and luckily, no one was there.
The two quickly arrived at Madwoman’s sister’s apartment door and rang the doorbell.
The apartment door opened quickly, and a middle-aged woman in a suit stood in the doorway, frowning and looking at them, "Who are you looking for?"
Lawrence smiled and said, "I’m a friend of Madwoman’s sister; my name is Lawrence Winters. I was her college roommate. Who might you be?"
She looked closely at the middle-aged woman, thinking she could be Madwoman’s sister’s mother. Although they didn’t look very much alike, they did have similarly shaped eyes.
The middle-aged woman’s frown indeed relaxed, and she said with a smile, "Oh, it’s Lawrence? I’m Little Mandarin Duck’s mother. She mentioned you before."
Then she carefully looked Kenneth up and down and asked, "And who is this?"
Lawrence followed up, "He’s my boyfriend and also Joyce’s roommate."
When Lawrence mentioned Joyce’s name, the middle-aged woman’s face immediately darkened.
She took a deep breath, moved aside, and let Lawrence and Kenneth enter the door.
At the same time, she turned back and said into the living room, "Little Mandarin Duck, your friend is here to see you."
Madwoman’s sister came out of her room, flip-flopping along.
She wore thick-soled non-slip slippers, and the sound was particularly loud as she walked on the teak floors.
Lawrence widened her eyes at her, wondering how Madwoman’s sister got so much fatter in just a few weeks.
But she wouldn’t say it out loud; girls are very sensitive about being called fat.
Madwoman’s sister was no exception. Even though she was pregnant, she wasn’t yet showing much; she really had just gained weight.
Madwoman’s sister grabbed her hand and said, "Lawrence, you’re finally here. Do you want to talk in my room?"
Lawrence glanced at Kenneth and said, "Kenneth has something to tell you; we can just talk in the living room?"
Madwoman’s sister looked at Kenneth, and Kenneth nodded and said, "Where’s Grandma Shaw? Let Grandma Shaw come and listen too."
Madwoman’s sister quickly said, "Grandma’s in her room; I’ll go get her."
After Madwoman’s sister left, her mother came over and asked, "What is it you want to say? It sounds very serious."
Kenneth said, "It’s like this: Nora and I are friends of Joyce and Madwoman’s sister, and we’re thinking of setting up a trust fund for their child..."
Madwoman’s sister’s mother immediately changed her expression and said, "What child? I think you’re speaking without any understanding! —Do you think setting up a trust fund will trick my silly girl into... having a child?! Do you know how much it costs to raise a child to adulthood? You guys just graduated; how much money could you possibly have?! Use it to throw a party for beggars maybe! A trust fund? Don’t make a fool of yourselves!"
