Chapter 360 - 196: A Promising Talent (Third Update)
Francis Johnson listened, feeling warm inside, and after a while, he said, "Hmm, you’re right, I have other matters to attend to, I’ll go now."Francis hung up the phone and, after thinking it over, still felt a bit worried, so he called Patrick, the true boss behind SSA Private Equity.
"Mr. Patrick, I have something to report to you," Francis said awkwardly, "It’s about Kenneth Osborne from AI Vision Promise. Didn’t we send him to mess things up during the Spencer Group’s acquisition of Wayford Intelligence? He messed around for a while and then... bought into Wayford Intelligence, securing twenty percent of the shares. Will this cause trouble?"
On the other end, Patrick was bewildered for a moment and then burst out laughing: "Really? That kid is quite sharp. Alright, once I’m back from my business trip, I’ll meet him. — He’s got potential, let’s see if we can nurture it."
Seeing that Patrick wasn’t concerned, Francis breathed a sigh of relief.
Though he promised to cover up for Kenneth Osborne, he wasn’t omnipotent, and sometimes he’d need to turn to the higher-ups if trouble arose.
...
Kenneth Osborne arrived at Wayford Intelligence a few minutes late due to his call with Francis Johnson.
He pushed open the door, and everyone in the meeting room looked up at him.
Justus Spencer and Summer Spencer were the most surprised.
Justus managed to keep silent, but Summer couldn’t help but exclaim, "Kenneth Osborne? What are you doing here?!"
Kenneth smiled as he walked to Luke Stern’s side and said, "I’ve come to see if the contract has gone into effect."
Luke Stern was both excited and nervous, smiling as he said, "The process is underway; they’ve just verified the bank accounts, and I’ve already listed yours."
Kenneth nodded, "Thank you for your trouble."
After their conversation, the bank transfer was completed.
"Mr. Spencer, two payments – forty billion and ten billion – were transferred to these two companies. Please have a look." The accountant responsible for the transfer handed the completed transaction slips to Justus Spencer.
Justus glanced down and saw that one account was Luke Stern’s personal account, and the other, surprisingly, was AI Vision Promise’s company account!
His heart sank; clenching his fist, he slammed it down on the table and through gritted teeth said, "What’s going on here? How did ten billion end up in AI Vision Promise’s bank account?!"
The accountant thought Justus’s anger was inexplicable and hurriedly said, "Wayford Intelligence has two major shareholders, Mr. Luke Stern holding eighty percent and AI Vision Promise holding twenty percent. Where’s the mistake?"
Justus’s face darkened further in anger as he said, "How could AI Vision Promise possibly be a shareholder of Wayford Intelligence?! Are you sure there’s no mistake?"
The accountant was somewhat displeased but patiently displayed the shareholding structure of Wayford Intelligence, "See for yourself."
Justus furrowed his brow, scrutinizing the notarized shareholding structure repeatedly, then lifted his gaze and looked at Luke Stern menacingly, then shifted his gaze to Kenneth Osborne, rising abruptly and shouted, "You fooled me! You conspired against me! I’m going to sue you for contract fraud!"
Luke Stern hastily said, "Mr. Spencer, you can’t make such reckless statements. Where did we conspire to defraud you? There’s nothing like that here; we will also pursue legal action if you say that."
"You still dare to speak?! Justus realized he’d been played – ten billion could have sufficed for the purchase, yet it forcibly turned into forty billion!"
"I want to amend the contract! I want to renegotiate the price! I’m not buying it anymore!" In a fit of rage, Justus began speaking indiscriminately.
Luke Stern’s face changed too; he stamped his seal again, "Too late! The contract is effective today; if you want to back out, go to court!"
Having consulted an attorney beforehand, he knew he wasn’t violating any laws by doing this.
Justus shot him a death glare, then turned to Kenneth Osborne, angrily saying, "I might not be able to sue him, but I can sue you! You’re deliberately committing commercial fraud! Pretending to want to acquire Wayford Intelligence, how did you end up becoming a shareholder?!"
Kenneth chuckled and shook his head, "Precisely because I wanted to acquire Wayford Intelligence, I became a shareholder..."
Summer Spencer didn’t fully understand Kenneth’s words, but his face was so attractive that she couldn’t help but feel infatuated as she looked at him.
She blinked, flaunting her earth-toned eye makeup, smiling as she said, "Mr. Osborne, what do you mean? I don’t get it."
Kenneth raised his eyebrows, "It’s very simple. I wanted to acquire Wayford Intelligence but couldn’t outperform your Spencer Group in bidding, so I lost. Still, I have high hopes for Wayford Intelligence, so I spoke to Mr. Stern about acquiring only twenty percent of his shares. With your fifty billion valuation, twenty percent is ten billion, any issue with that?"
Justus glared at him, his teeth biting down on his lower lip almost hard enough to draw blood, lost for words.
Kenneth’s rationale was air-tight, leaving Justus with no room to refute!
"...Mr. Osborne, are you saying you revised your intent from acquiring all shares to only twenty percent after failing the acquisition? Do you have any proof?" The legal advisor spoke up from the side.
Kenneth nodded, grinned, and said, "Certainly, isn’t the shareholding structure clearly documented? Check my shareholder status in Wayford Intelligence; it dates two weeks back."
"I announced my intent to acquire Wayford Intelligence three weeks ago."
Meaning, when Kenneth declared his acquisition intentions, he had no connections to Wayford Intelligence, eliminating suspicion of collaborating with Wayford Intelligence’s shareholders to inflate the price intentionally.
Of course, whether Kenneth conspired separately with Luke Stern is another matter and nearly impossible to prove.
Kenneth finished talking, then signed his name and checked the money in the bank account, before slightly bowing and saying, "Thank you for your support. I hope for our continued collaboration."
He straightened up, giving Justus Spencer a profound look, signaling that this wasn’t the end.
