Chapter 304 - 170: You Don’t Need to Thank Me (First Update)

Chapter 304 - 170: You Don’t Need to Thank Me (First Update)

The woman on the other end of the phone seemed to be stunned by Lawrence Winters and, after a while, said, "...Are you Joyce Shaw, the fiancée? No wonder he’d rather work overtime every day than go home! With someone as rude as you..."Before she could finish, Lawrence Winters interrupted her, bluntly saying, "You’ve been babbling for ages, and haven’t even said who you are... How do I know you’re not running a phone scam, just saying a few words to try and steal money? Do you think I’m as dumb as you are?"

The woman was furious at Lawrence Winters, and gritted her teeth: "Does it matter who I am?"

"Eh? Didn’t you call first? Do you follow celebrities?"

The other side was stunned: "...Follow celebrities? Why would I follow celebrities?"

"Hmph, you don’t even follow celebrities, no wonder you don’t understand the term ’the initiator is cheap!’—Fan circle jargon, do you get it?" Lawrence Winters sneered and lectured her, "Tell me, what’s your name then? Otherwise, how can I believe you’re Joyce Shaw’s new flame? Even if you’re making it up, at least fabricate a name, right? These days are mistresses using imagination alone? Can someone just brush past you on the street and make you pregnant?"

The woman on the other end couldn’t handle Lawrence Winters’ sharp tongue and started stammering: "What are you talking about?! I’m Joyce’s colleague! Ask him if there’s a female colleague named Mary Palmer! Ask him if it’s me taking care of him, buying him meals, accompanying him working overtime every day!"

"Mary Palmer, right? How old are you? When were you born? Don’t think I’ll believe you just because you made up a name." Lawrence Winters kept his cool and continued to probe for information.

Mary Palmer sneered, "I’m younger than you, I’m only twenty-one this year."

Crazy Girl started university at eighteen, graduated at twenty-two.

Lawrence Winters didn’t fall for it, laughed: "Just twenty-one? I don’t believe it, by the sound of your voice, at least thirty!"

"You’re talking nonsense! I was born on XX day of XX month, XX year, just turned twenty-one, not yet twenty-two!" The woman on the other end was provoked by Lawrence Winters to the point of stomping.

Lawrence Winters chuckled and continued to mock: "Started working at twenty-one, based on your intelligence level, not a prodigy or from an elite class, so probably a junior high or high school grad doing odd jobs, at most an office assistant, what’s your deal showing off in front of me? Ask Joyce Shaw where he graduated, ask him where I graduated."

"So what if your education is superior? I may not have a degree, but I definitely won’t lose to you!" The other side seemed to have hit a sore spot, yelled in anger, then abruptly hung up the phone.

Crazy Girl was wide-eyed, mouth agape, watching Lawrence Winters execute this epic phone maneuver, not even feeling sad anymore.

"...Is this it?" Crazy Girl looked at Joyce Shaw’s phone, puzzled, "Really not going to ask him?"

"Certainly not over yet." Lawrence Winters pouted, looking angry, "It’s been years since someone dared to so openly slap me in the face!"

"...She was insulting me, not you," Crazy Girl said softly after a moment of silence.

Lawrence Winters rolled her eyes, "I just said Joyce Shaw isn’t the type to have an affair, and she dares to call and provoke, not a slap to my face?"

"She’s trampling on my dignity as a Heavenly Master! If I let her off, then there’s something wrong with me!"

Crazy Girl felt touched, wanted to laugh, and had a slight sense of awe and sadness, but because of Lawrence Winters’ words, she didn’t feel particularly upset.

Because it was clear that Lawrence Winters completely trusted Joyce Shaw.

Crazy Girl thought she shouldn’t doubt Joyce Shaw over little issues.

But she definitely had to ask when she got home; she couldn’t pretend nothing had happened.

She thought this while contemplating advising Lawrence Winters not to be so angry, only to see Lawrence Winters get up, stomp off to her room.

This big flat was really spacious, Crazy Girl worried she might get lost in someone else’s house and be impolite, so she patiently sat on the corner sofa, waiting for Lawrence Winters to come back.

The living room was rather noisy; their argument with the woman on the phone wasn’t overheard by many.

Only a few people nearby glanced at them.

Crazy Girl took a sip of beer to calm her nerves.

Soon, Lawrence Winters came back, sat down next to her, and opened her palm.

A small paper doll cut from brown straw paper lay in her pale palm.

Round and chubby, somewhat cute.

But upon seeing the name written on the small paper doll, Crazy Girl immediately felt it was far from cute.

The belly of the doll was inscribed with the name "Mary Palmer" in red ink, along with a series of heavenly stems and earthly branches, which Crazy Girl didn’t understand.
