Chapter 302 - 169: Feeling Comforted (Third Update)

Joyce Shaw took a sip of the sweet, thick mango juice. He didn’t used to like sweets, but recently, he always craved them because he had an indescribable bitterness in his heart.

Kenneth Osborne didn’t rush him, quietly waiting beside him.

Joyce pondered for a long time, still unsure of how to begin.

The issue at work wasn’t a technical problem; it involved business secrets.

When he got a raise, he signed a confidentiality agreement. If he leaked business secrets and it affected the company’s acquisition, he’d be legally responsible.

He hadn’t even spoken a word to his girlfriend about it.

Joyce took another sip of mango juice, contemplated for a while, and finally said, "I’ve encountered some issues at work, but it’s not a technical problem. It’s related to our company’s acquisition plan, so I can’t tell anyone."

Kenneth made a sound of acknowledgment and joked, "Then don’t tell me either, best not to say a word. Although I don’t have any acquisition plans for now, what if your company’s acquisition target is particularly appealing? I might get envious too..."

Joyce laughed and said, "Business is like a battlefield; I understand. But you wouldn’t do that, I trust you!"

He patted Kenneth on the shoulder, "A gentleman knows his limits."

"I never claimed to be a gentleman; don’t put me on a pedestal." Kenneth laughed, brushing off his hand, "Actually, don’t overthink things. As I’ve said before, my door is always open for you."

Joyce nodded firmly, "Good brother! I’ll remember that."

They chatted a bit more. Then, a few others joined them on the balcony, greeted Kenneth and Joyce, and continued their conversation.

One said, "Yesterday, the power was out for fifteen minutes! Damn! I was in the middle of a surgery! There’s a backup power supply in the operating room, but when the lights suddenly flickered, I almost cut my own hand!"

Another said, "Yeah, I heard the traffic lights at a street corner were out; luckily, the traffic police were there to direct traffic, preventing any major accidents."

"That’s not all, I heard some places weren’t so lucky..."

Listening to their conversation, Joyce’s expression turned a bit grim.

He quietly asked Kenneth, "Does a fifteen-minute power outage really have such a big impact?"

Kenneth replied with an "Mm," without much expression, "Just fifteen minutes of power outage isn’t much; everyone has at least an hour of backup power now, so there shouldn’t be any major issues. But the problem is, how could such a sophisticated AI-operated system like the national grid allow a fifteen-minute outage? Especially in Capital City?—The underlying reason is really worth contemplating."

Joyce glanced at him.

He knew Kenneth had a particularly good temperament and rarely got into arguments. When his face showed no expression, it usually meant he was extremely angry.

Feeling a bit uneasy, Joyce finally confided in Kenneth about the issues he faced at work.

Kenneth listened intently.

He lowered his voice and asked, "...Are you sure?"

"I can’t be sure." Joyce chuckled bitterly, shaking his head, "I only worked on the image reconstruction for their robot vision system. Really, they have so many robots, it took me all night just to write a program to sort and arrange the images; I haven’t even processed those images yet, so I can’t see any content at all."

Kenneth said, "But if you can rearrange the reconstructed images according to a certain logical order, you can see a coherent scenario. Right?"

Joyce nodded, "In theory, yes. Like raw footage of a movie that needs someone to edit it into a meaningful film."

"And then you saw some images related to yesterday’s power outage?" Kenneth asked softly.

Joyce looked puzzled, "Actually, I can’t be sure; it just seems too coincidental."

"Hmm, I understand." Kenneth also found it complicated.

This matter could be big or small, and he didn’t feel capable of handling it.

After thinking for a while, he said, "Later, Mr. Zhao from SSA Private Equity will come by, I’ll introduce you. If you’re worried about this, you should talk to him."

Joyce was taken aback, "Why tell him? He’s just an investor... can he manage so much?"

"He’s not just an investor," Kenneth said meaningfully, "Besides, this kind of thing can only be discussed with someone you truly trust. Right now, I can’t find anyone more trustworthy or capable than him."
