Chapter 223: Refinement

Chapter 223: Refinement

Nemus watched Isabella leave, unable to help but sigh; people like her were truly becoming rarer and rarer.

If it were the past, he might genuinely have found it difficult to let her go.

But now, Nemus had never truly held onto her, so naturally, there was nothing to let go of.

"Having an opponent like this is not bad," Nemus murmured as he glanced to the side. A cloud of black smoke materialized, coalescing into the form of Krew.

"So, Lord Nemus, are you fully prepared for total hostility?" Krew's aura was completely different from before.

Clearly, under the influence of Multiple Curses, Krew's strength had grown tremendously, having successfully passed the most critical period.

"Your timing is perfect. I expect the real battle will begin shortly." Nemus could already smell the smoke of the impending war.

Given the current situation, Rhine was hiding behind the scenes, Baiter was spying from the sidelines, and a Heterogeneous Demon lurked in the shadows.

Isabella had completely turned against him, fully intent on investigating his secrets.

The Dartmenerly Family, accompanied by the Saint Child, was biding their time and looking for an opening. On his end, all preparations had been pushed to their absolute limits.

The final stage would soon commence, and when that moment arrived, everything would violently collide.

The only thing left to see was who would strike first.

Right at that moment, Nemus sensed a transmission of information.

Closing his eyes slightly, he used the Oath Rope to shift his perspective. In that instant, Nemus witnessed the transformation overtaking Cici Marie not far away.

"The Golden Elixir, has the cultivation succeeded?" Nemus inquired.

"Indeed, great Lord Nemus!" White Fox declared, her voice burning with fanaticism.

Soon after pledging her submission to Nemus, Cici Marie had fallen into her hands once more.

This was largely thanks to Nels's maternal uncle, Bain.

Back when Nemus had used a single sword strike to trample the dignity of the Dartmenerly patriarch into the dirt, he had given a subtle signal. Bain had immediately gravitated toward him, loudly proclaiming that the bonds of blood and gratitude could never be severed.

Sensing that Nemus disliked such sentimental talk, Bain instantly changed his tune, eagerly detailing how much trouble he could cause the Dartmenerly Family as an embedded spy.

Although he was a mercenary opportunist, he was undoubtedly a smart man.

The moment he decided to switch sides, he fully aligned himself with Nemus, taking the initiative to lay numerous traps against the Dartmenerly Family on Nemus's behalf.

Furthermore, many of Dartmenerly's hidden secrets and plans had long been leaked by Bain, placing them entirely in Nemus's grasp.

"Then make your preparations."

"They started their preparations days ago over there. After Isabella visited today, they took the opportunity to recall most of the family's personnel."

"I suspect they have already made their move."

Meanwhile, on the other side, within the estate of the Dartmenerly Family, Dartmenerly was giving a rallying speech.

The Saint Child tilted his head, holding a small white wildflower between his fingers. He stood behind Dartmenerly, seemingly trying to identify the flower's species.

"All of you were born into the Dartmenerly Family and carry the blood of the Saint. Right now, our family has reached a critical moment of life and death."

"If any of you choose to retreat now and abandon the family name, I will not blame you."

"Fearing death is human nature; seeking survival is basic instinct."

"But the difference between us and lowly beasts is that we conquer our nature and instincts, choosing glory instead."

"Therefore, to all of you who are willing to stay, who choose the family, who choose glory! For the honor of the family, for everything we hold dear, let us fight!" Dartmenerly declared solemnly. By now, the other family members fully understood that the family had reached a crucial juncture; without fighting, they simply could not survive.

Their blood stirred bit by bit, eventually igniting into a blazing fervor.

Following this, the majority of the Dartmenerly Family members left the estate in batches, quietly heading to their designated locations according to the battle strategies they had previously agreed upon.

Soon, the massive estate was entirely empty, leaving only Dartmenerly and the Saint Child behind.

"Is it really fine to send them to their deaths?" the Saint Child asked Dartmenerly as he lowered the flower.

"Everything is for the family," Dartmenerly replied, his face cold. "I have already investigated everything thoroughly."

"Extracting the Historical Number requires occupying a specific position, much like the "protagonist" in a stage play."

"And Nels has currently stirred up a storm in Tail Fin Town. He is laying the foundation for this position step by step. During this process, anyone with the opportunity to challenge this position only needs to defeat him to take his place."

"Of course, securing the assistance of history during this process is still necessary."

"Therefore, no matter what, it is absolutely essential to obtain the Fey bloodline."

"The earlier one enters the stage, the greater the challenges they face, but it also provides the greatest chance of usurping that position. As long as the qualifications are sufficient, one can obtain enough of the Historical Number."

"So you are making them go and throw their lives away?" the Saint Child asked again.

"That is merely a necessary sacrifice," Dartmenerly answered. "The bloodline of our family has already been afflicted by a Curse, and that includes me."

"They do not have the qualifications. I do not have the qualifications. I am already old and withered, so it can only be you, Nimes!"

"As the Saint Child, your qualifications are more than enough."

"We will exhaust everything we have to pave the way for you."

"And you will become a Legend Rank. You will become a Saint. You will become the new Saint Dartmenerly."

"So... all of you are going to your deaths?" the Saint Child asked for a third time.

"Yes, we are all going to die. We will use our deaths to clear away every obstacle in your path!" Dartmenerly stared at the Saint Child, his eyes filled with an anticipation that words could simply not describe.

"Let us go. There is not much time left." Dartmenerly said no more. Gripping the Holy Path Sword, he closed his eyes.

The Saint Child looked at the man's resolute expression, nodded, and then turned to walk outside.

As for the flower he had been holding, he casually tossed it aside.

Perhaps he shouldn't become a plant that encroached upon the survival opportunities of others.

The Dartmenerly Family—this herd of social animals—was willing to take him in, treat him as their hope for the future, and sacrifice all their nutrients to feed him. If that were the case, perhaps he should also become one of these social animals.

As the Saint Child departed, Dartmenerly opened his eyes.

He did not know whether his choice was right or wrong, but the family had been pushed to the brink. He had to take this gamble.

He stood up and walked to the side. Given his Attribute Value, his pace was not particularly fast, but he quickly reached his destination.

Two sword strikes carved an "X" into the meticulously constructed stone wall of a house. With a firm kick, he shattered the masonry, revealing the scene inside.

In the center of the main hall, a Crimson Magic Array had already been fully arranged.

And Cici Marie was placed right in the dead center of the Crimson Magic Array.
