Chapter 206: Report

Chapter 206: Report

"So what if you know?" Baiter did not seem to care much about it.

Most abilities were never entirely perfect; ultimately, it depended on the person wielding them.

For instance, his spatial shield had two flaws, one of which was the very weakness Krew had discovered.

The shield required a fist-sized opening to function, and secondly, he could not move rapidly. Otherwise, the spatial curvature would fail to keep up, causing him to obstruct his own movements.

This was why Baiter had not used the shield earlier when he discovered Leah in an emergency and pursued her.

Despite these flaws, Baiter could rely on his precise control to compensate for them.

For example, the opening in his shield constantly shifted its position. By doing this, he could prevent others from discovering the weak point in his defenses.

However...

"I already understand the method you used to break my defense..." Baiter reached out his hand. A slight distortion rippled around him, followed by wisps of hot air rising before dissipating completely.

"Curse spells. Not bad at all!" Baiter praised. The cluster of black flames Krew had unleashed earlier was merely a medium to cast the curse.

What Krew had truly cast was a curse-type spell: Sweltering Heat.

The lethality of this spell was not particularly high, and the afflicted rarely even realized they had been cursed.

This was because the sole effect of the curse was to make the target feel a slight feverish heat, thereby inducing a sense of restlessness and anxiety.

Yet, it was precisely this curse that managed to break through Baiter's ability.

The vector of its transmission only required the target to feel the temperature change brought about by the black fire medium.

Following that, Krew used the initial curse as a medium to cast yet another one: Curse: Decay!

Compared to Sweltering Heat, Curse: Decay was immensely lethal.

It was an attack specifically tailored against practitioners of the Life Aspect.

"However, you seem to know quite a bit about my abilities," Baiter said, raising his sword and swinging it casually. A surge of sword qi shot straight toward Krew.

If Krew had not possessed prior intelligence regarding his abilities, there would have been many irrational aspects to his previous maneuvers.

Baiter did not believe that anyone could achieve the absolute optimal solution on their very first strike without any prior information.

Moreover, the words 'spatial shield' that Krew had blurted out earlier already explained the situation.

His ability currently manifested as an invisible shield. Anyone lacking spatial perception would find it incredibly difficult to recognize it as a space-type ability.

And spatial perception itself was an extremely rare sensory ability.

Baiter did not think Krew just so happened to possess it, which was why he spoke up to test the waters.

"There is no need to overthink it. We are the ones responsible for what happened to the Baiter Merchant Guild earlier." Having exposed himself, Krew knew that hiding the truth was basically impossible.

As he spoke, a massive amount of bubbles erupted all over Krew's body.

Curse: Drowning!

It could inflict the agonizing sensation of drowning and imminent death on a person.

However, this curse also had a secondary effect. After being afflicted, the target's body would undergo a mutation, taking on a liquefied state.

The sword qi passed right through Krew's body, causing him to ripple momentarily, but it failed to inflict any substantial damage.

Curses themselves, aside from bringing agony, could also alter the cursed individual to a certain extent.

The most famous example was the Bloodlust Curse, a curse that had even birthed a supernatural race: vampires.

Curses inherently represented power. An excellent curse warlock would never mindlessly unleash curses at a target. They would meticulously prepare various curses, then borrow their power to obtain abilities in other domains.

It was just that this method of spellcasting carried enormous risks. It was extremely easy to lose control and end up killing oneself. Krew, however, did not fear this in the slightest.

His Twin trait granted him one soul across two bodies. At the same time, any increase in their attribute values counted double. Because he possessed two bodies, each physical form could shoulder a portion of the mental power.

Of course, Krew still needed to raise his true attribute value to over ninety to reach the peak limit before he could undergo advancement.

Besides that, the most advantageous aspect of the Twin trait was its ability to distribute the risks of spellcasting.

This was also why Krew had chosen to become a curse warlock as his secondary profession.

'My attribute values are still too low. I wasted quite a lot of time!' Krew thought calmly, completely unaffected by the agonizing pain of drowning.

Previously, in order to hide himself, he had lived aimlessly within the Church, not daring to reveal his innate talent.

It was only after following Nemus that Krew began to earnestly practice meditation, utilizing Nemus's resources to break through to the Iron Rank.

However, despite his low attribute values, he was absolutely not weak.

The Twin trait allowed him to display an effective power output equivalent to an attribute value of over forty.

His heightened capacity to endure curse spells also allowed him to cast curses with far higher tolls.

Bearing double the burden and paying double the price meant that, generally speaking, the destructive power of a single curse of his could reach an equivalent value of around eighty.

The power of certain special curses could even approach the peak limit of the Iron Rank.

If it were not for the fact that his true attribute value was only in the twenties, and that operating with such a high card multiplier could easily lead to severe issues, he would have even dared to challenge a Golden Rank level curse.

"Let us end things here for today. We will meet again," Krew said. His body gradually faded before swiftly transforming into a streak of black mist that flew off into the distance.

"..." Baiter had only just raised his sword. Before the sword qi could even materialize, Krew was already gone.

The opponent's escape speed vastly exceeded his expectations. He did not seem like a normal human being at all.

'Could he be some special kind of demon?' Baiter wondered, recalling the demonic aura that had emanated from Krew earlier.

At this moment, he felt increasingly certain that the demon warlock was likely just a front-facing puppet. There were probably more entities tied to demons lurking behind him.

'I cannot rashly knock on their door. I might not be able to retreat in one piece,' Baiter thought, remembering the person with astonishing stealth capabilities from that night, as well as the carriage that had suddenly shifted in mass.

Coupled with the likely hidden mastermind orchestrating all these events from the shadows, Baiter dared not be too careless.

Although his space-type trait was formidable, just like the shield he created, it came with certain restrictions and was absolutely not invincible.

Otherwise, he would not have remained hidden in Tail Fin Town for so many years.

"Aside from Rhine, this city actually harbors another powerhouse of unknown identity. I wonder if this will impact my plans," Baiter muttered, narrowing his eyes as he pondered the potential problems he might face in the future.

His identity was unique, and his hands were far from clean.

Escalating this matter into a major incident would be detrimental to himself.

"If that is the case, then I will leave it to the professionals." At this thought, Baiter smiled faintly.

That night, while Nemus was resting, he suddenly sensed a disturbance.

A moment later, an arrow shot into the room, shattering the window and burying itself into the table inside Nemus's house.

Wrapped tightly around the arrow was a piece of letter paper.

"The demon warlock actually has accomplices." Reading the contents of the letter, Nemus let out a rather peculiar chuckle.
