Chapter 186: Search Warrant

"Oh, Isabella," Nemus said, standing up as he saw Isabella push the door open, a warm smile spreading across his face as he called her name.

Hearing this somewhat intimate greeting, Isabella's earlobes flushed slightly. Nevertheless, she met his gaze with her clear blue eyes and outlined the reasons for her visit.

"First of all, I do not believe the Construct Protocol is as simple as it seems. There might still be certain people hiding behind the scenes." Isabella then brought out the documents she had compiled.

Originally, the ongoing pursuit of the Construct Protocol had not ended, but Isabella had been nominated as a Bishop Candidate and subsequently transferred into the Redemption Department.

The investigation into the Construct Protocol could only be left to Gabriel, Brent, and the others.

However, while handing over her duties, Isabella had reviewed the previous case files and discovered a few inconsistencies.

For instance, Demonization.

Some members of the Construct Protocol would occasionally undergo Demonization. Yet, during their campaigns to exterminate the organization, they had found virtually no clues regarding this specific ability.

Furthermore, over the recent period, they had made some progress in breaking the covenant binding Xiaobi, allowing him to provide a lot more information.

Aside from joining the Construct Protocol, Xiaobi had also encountered an entity claiming to be the master of the organization. He signed a new covenant with Xiaobi and bestowed the power of Demonization upon him.Through her careful review of the various materials, Isabella realized that a significant number of likely key figures within the Construct Protocol had yet to be captured.

First, the Construct Protocol likely harbored an Alchemist, but from beginning to end, that Alchemist had left absolutely no trace.

Second was Priest Lina from their squad. Her rebellious daughter had joined the Construct Protocol, and despite so much time passing, her daughter was still missing, neither alive nor dead.

Even though it made perfect sense for Fass—who was capable of killing the Iron Rank Black Mask—to successfully assassinate the Construct Protocol's cult leader via a sneak attack, the entire sequence of events still struck Isabella as bizarre.

This was exactly why Isabella had brought all these questions to Nemus today, hoping he could launch a deeper investigation into these matters.

"Is that so?" Nemus nodded solemnly, accepting the documents she handed over.

Then, appearing slightly embarrassed, Isabella added, "Additionally, I would like to request some improved benefits for the Redemption Department from you, Lord Grand Knight."

Previously, Nemus had relied on smuggling profits to improve the welfare of many Clerics within the Church.

However, the Redemption Department had been excluded. On one hand, the Redemption Department was under the Bishop's jurisdiction; on the other hand, it was already an incredibly lucrative posting.

Simply sitting idle in the Redemption Department all day was enough to have massive amounts of wealth flow right into one's pockets.

"That is not a problem, though the funds might be slightly tight recently." Nemus nodded. "As you know, Dong He might be running into some issues on his end."

The two attacks in the North District had severely increased the Missionary Department's investigative workload. Lately, Dong He had been feeling simultaneously thrilled and plagued by headaches.

He believed that as long as he caught the attackers, he could win over the Nidon Family and the Baiter Merchant Guild. By making such a massive contribution, he would firmly secure his seat as Bishop.

His movements were far too aggressive, making mistakes inevitable.

"You should also be careful. Power and wealth can cloud a person's judgment and drive them to take a desperate risk," Nemus cautioned her.

"Mhm, you make sure to get some rest as well." Isabella's ears flushed red once more as she nodded earnestly.

Ever since she had recognized Nemus's excellence and their relationship drifted into an ambiguous atmosphere, Isabella could not help but indulge in fantasies about the future. Hearing him express concern for her filled her with genuine joy.

However, she was not the type of woman to completely lose herself in romance. Her smile gradually faded, replaced by a serious expression as she bid Nemus farewell.

Seeing that Isabella was not acting recklessly, Nemus turned his focus back to his own affairs.

The next morning, just as the whale's cry echoed at dawn, the contingency plan Nemus had set in motion finally yielded results.

A Church Outpost detected faint traces of demonic aura.

By tracking this aura, they discovered several figures clad in Black Robes vanishing near the Estate belonging to the Ben family.

The sentry immediately chose to report this incident up the chain of command.

Upon receiving this intelligence, Nemus treated it with the utmost importance and immediately summoned Gabriel, Brent, and the other Construct Protocol investigators.

He also sent a notification to Dong He.

"Today's matter is of grave importance. I need everyone to temporarily sever all contact with the outside world." Seeing that everyone had assembled, Nemus immediately ordered Krew to slightly jam the nearby Grid.

This interference could not completely block outgoing communications, but if anyone attempted to send a message out, Krew would absolutely know about it.

Everyone present naturally understood this. The use of such extreme measures meant that this was undeniably a major event.

"According to our intelligence, we suspect that the Noble family, the Ben family, is the backer behind the Construct Protocol. We also believe they are connected to the previous attacks on the Nidon Family and the Baiter Merchant Guild."

"Therefore, I have decided to conduct a search of the Ben family!"

"I have already signed the relevant search warrant. Everyone, prepare to move out!"

Hearing the information Nemus provided, everyone's spirits instantly lifted.

Nobles possessed a myriad of Privileges. Searching a Noble's Estate was something rarely done unless there was concrete evidence of them committing a severe crime.

If Nemus dared to sign such a search warrant, he definitely had the necessary proof to back it up.

This time, there was a very high chance they were going to catch a massive fish!

As a result, both the Construct Protocol investigative squad and Dong He's Missionary Department immediately began making their final, earnest preparations.

Then, moving out in perfect unison, they marched toward the Ben family Estate.
