Chapter 112: Berserk Accessory
Chapter 112: Berserk Accessory
"Rest assured, after Fass, it will be your turn. We will all grasp this power and become men above men!" the gang leader declared earnestly.
Al did not believe a single word of his nonsense, but he had no grounds to advise Fass otherwise, nor any way to take the boy away.
They were currently inside a warehouse, surrounded by stacks of cargo crates.
One set of doors to the warehouse was tightly locked, while the Black Star Gang's leader guarded the other, keeping a close watch on the activity outside.
Even if he wanted to run, there was nowhere to go.
Al knew one thing for certain: the Rope Gang were no saints, and they would not easily let Fass's family off the hook.
He might have had a bit of worldly experience himself, but had he not still ended up in this wretched situation?
Even the Black Star Gang leader could easily beat him to death in two or three strikes if he got serious. What power or ability did he have to persuade Fass against sinking into these crooked paths?
'Perhaps I can seek the Church's help,' Al thought. When one's own strength was insufficient, one had to find a way to introduce external power.
Seeking the help of clerics would not only destroy a dangerous organization like the Black Star Gang and rescue Fass from their clutches, but he might also be able to use the severity of the situation to take down the Rope Gang as well.At this moment, Al had no idea that the Church was already involved. The person who came to deliver the warning earlier had only mentioned the Rope Gang.
'And once the Black Star Gang leader takes Fass away, I can find an opportunity to escape from here.'
Fass soon left with the gang leader.
Before leaving, the leader instructed the remaining few to stay put for a while, promising that they would return shortly.
By then, they would have two experts wielding supernatural power. Soon, they would be able to assault the Rope Gang together and take their place!
The others readily believed this. Al mingled among them, keeping up his disguise.
Watching the two of them leave, he began searching for an opportunity to flee.
Fass followed the gang leader. It was already dark outside, and the two navigated through the pitch-black night toward a specific destination.
Soon, they arrived at a small wooden house.
The gang leader knocked on the door, then pulled his clothes open to reveal the inverted pentagram symbol on his chest.
Just as Fass assumed someone would open the door to let them inside...
...the gang leader turned around and led him in another direction.
They walked a bit further and ducked into one of the narrow alleyways on the side. As they moved, a stranger's voice suddenly echoed in their ears.
"Who is the person you brought with you, Buke?" It was only then that Fass realized the gang leader's name was Buke.
Previously, he had only heard from his neighbor that someone wielding supernatural power was looking to recruit people to form a gang. That was why he had dragged Al along with the neighbor to that alley.
He never expected that his neighbor would instantly run away the moment the Rope Gang showed up.
Instead, it was Fass who successfully secured a spot to obtain supernatural power.
"This is a new member I want to recommend—Fass!"
"Fass?" The person asking the question repeated the name, then instructed them to take a left turn at the third intersection ahead.
After tossing and turning through various routes, Fass finally followed Buke to the back door of a house in an unknown location.
A man then opened the door and ushered them inside.
Having no way back now, Fass stepped into the interior of the building.
He then discovered that he had entered the inside of a bell tower.
Surrounding him was a spiraling staircase, and above his head were rotating gears and machinery. The dim yellow lighting, accompanied by the rhythmic clack-clack-clack of the mechanism, inexplicably made him feel at ease.
"Follow me!" Becky scrutinized Fass with a hint of curiosity.
An ordinary brat from the slums, fourteen years old, suffering from the usual malnutrition.
At this age, even if he practiced a breathing technique, he basically had no future. So, why was this person able to gain the high regard of that exalted lord?!
Although curious, Becky had no intention of acting recklessly.
He led Fass to a certain room beneath the bell tower, then conducted a brief examination of the boy's physical condition.
"Remember the name of Fabrication!"
"From this moment on, your life has broken free from its shackles."
Becky's low, deep voice left Fass stunned for a moment, but soon after, the boy gradually felt a wave of dizziness wash over him.
Buke was also feeling a bit perplexed at this moment; when he received his power, he had never been brought to a place like this.
Two days ago, he had merely met with a Protocol member and was casually infused with demonic power. After that person relayed some basic common sense to him, he was told to leave.
"Come here, kid. You have made a great contribution. I will accept you as a Protocol member and reinforce your power to three times what it was before." Just as Buke's thoughts were running wild, Becky had already finished his experiment and walked out.
Buke was considered a capable talent who actually got things done. Originally, he would have needed to complete a few more tasks before receiving an upgrade and officially joining the Construct Protocol.
However, since he was connected to Fass, it was decided to grant him an early promotion.
"Thank you..." It was only then that Buke realized he still did not know the other party's identity.
"Call me Bishop Becky."
Overjoyed, Buke hurriedly bowed his head in submission.
On the other side, Nemus was also currently observing Fass's reaction.
What was being 'transplanted' into Fass was naturally the Berserk Accessory.
During this process, Nemus had lightly referenced the Church's Precept Holy Knights.
After all, there were some similarities between the two.
For a Precept Holy Knight, Holy Nails formed from faith were paired with precepts to pin down the Holy Knight's life aura.
Meanwhile, the Berserk Accessory itself was a condensation of soul and vitality, which also contained the power of faith.
'So... it should produce a similar effect!' Nemus reasoned.
He then watched as the Berserk Accessory melded into Fass's body, a process in which their shared origin of faith acted as a medium.
It was just like when Nemus first became a Precept Holy Knight; back then, the medium had been the precepts.
Under the influence of this shared origin, the Berserk Accessory began integrating into Fass's physical form.
However, the first thing to exhibit a reaction was not Fass's body, but rather his mental state.
Within the Berserk Accessory, those agitated mental fluctuations swiftly used this connection to stimulate Fass's mental state.
Nemus could sense that Fass's mental potential was being rapidly unlocked.
It was much like the Life Path.
The Meditation Method also worked by gradually developing one's mental potential through deep meditation. For most people, when their attribute value reached seven, eight, or nine points, they would hit a plateau.
'So the Berserk Accessory is actually the Holy Nail of the Soul Path?' Nemus pondered. Seeing Fass struggling agonizingly on the operating table, he immediately commanded the Oath Rope to subdue him, restraining the intensity of the Berserk Accessory.
Otherwise, if this continued, it was highly likely that Fass would be driven completely mad by his agitated psyche.
'His mental stat has increased to three. As expected, heterodox paths are truly fast.'
'It is just that his mental fluctuations seem to have become exceptionally turbulent as a result. Mental power of this nature is entirely unsuited for spellcasting.' Nemus furrowed his brow; spellcasting heavily relied on mental stability.
