Chapter 103: Construct Protocol
Chapter 103: Construct Protocol
'So, the only problem with rejecting the Dartmenerly family now is that I will have to go to war with them.'
'But my purpose in coming to Tail Fin Town in the first place was to start a war.'
'Besides, going to war actually has its benefits.' Nemus naturally understood that one had to look at both sides of an issue, perceiving things dialectically.
In the short term, a war would cause Nemus to face numerous problems.
'However, I can also use this opportunity to solidify my position within the Church and the whale product trade.' If Nemus took over the Dartmenerly family, his influence might expand massively in a short time.
But he would simultaneously inherit the family's awkward standing within Tail Fin Town.
'Conversely, if I want to obtain the Dartmenerly family's resources and the loyalty of some of their talents, there's no need to go about it that way.' Nemus still preferred a more challenging approach.
'For instance, crippling the Dartmenerly family first, and then plundering and annexing them!'
Nemus gradually figured this out. The Dartmenerly family's long-standing abuses were hard to reverse, and the internal stagnation was deeply ingrained.
If he were to step in and become the patriarch, he would likely find himself hindered at every turn.It would be better to treat them like the Floating World Society: dismantle them almost entirely first, then absorb and restructure what remained.
While this meant he wouldn't acquire their full roster of personnel, there would be far fewer restrictions, and it would simultaneously open up positions for new talent.
"So, Angel A, how is the establishment of the religious order coming along?"
Nemus had returned to his office. After leaving Krew to finish up the remaining paperwork, he took out the Book of Ages and the Fey Potion. At the same time, he inquired about Angel A's progress through their profound soul connection.
Nemus planned to divide his subordinates into three groups. The first group, consisting of individuals with relatively clean backgrounds like Purr and Krew, would follow him directly within the Church.
The second group, comprised of people with problematic pasts like Opper, would help him break into the whale product trade and navigate the gray areas of Tail Fin Town.
The final group included Angel A, the Watchman, and Leah. They were Nemus's chosen candidates for establishing his new religious order.
"I have already found that hidden elder of the Floating World Society. Furthermore, I've subtly concealed the traces of several promising talents recently to prevent the Judgment Squad from discovering them," Angel A replied.
"Once we send out the invitations, almost all of them will choose to join."
Although Angel A seemed a bit eccentric and unreliable at times, he was dependable when it came to serious matters.
He possessed an Attribute Value of ninety-nine, along with the Precept trait, and mastered numerous divine arts and spells exclusive to Cherubim.
As far as the current Tail Fin Town was concerned, his power was basically overwhelming.
With his Maverick trait combined with concealment spells, it was nearly impossible for him to be detected. Instead, he could use this advantage to secretly monitor others.
At the same time, Nemus's Oath Rope was an incredibly sharp tool for developing an organization.
The primary reason the Church could control a city of hundreds of thousands with only a few hundred people was the Grid.
Priests used the Grid not only to enhance their divine arts but, more importantly, to rapidly transmit all kinds of information.
In an era where transportation relied mostly on carriages, horses, or powerful individuals flying with whale products, the instantaneous communication of the Grid completely crushed other factions.
Now, the Oath Rope could achieve the exact same thing.
It was as if a web woven from the Oath Rope bound all of Nemus's subordinates together.
'It's just that, currently, it is easy for them to communicate with me through the Oath Rope, but if the members want to communicate with each other, it has to be routed through me as the central hub.'
An idea gradually formed in Nemus's mind.
"However, we have a problem right now!" Right at this moment, Angel A suddenly spoke up.
Just as Nemus was wondering if Angel A had encountered the mastermind behind the Floating World Society, the angel's distressed voice echoed in his mind.
"What do you think we should name our religious order?"
"Lord Angel A's Fan Club?" "The Spinning Big Bird Tavern?"
"Or maybe..."
"Shut up!" Nemus directly muted Angel A. "The order's name will be—Construct Protocol."
Having finalized the name of the order, Nemus focused his attention on his own advancement.
'Book of Ages, let me see if you can truly record the annals of time.' Nemus drank the Fey Potion, instantly feeling a shifting sensation as if his spirit was being stretched and distorted.
Everything around him began to sway. Straight lines warped into curves, and curves twisted into chaotic tangles.
In Nemus's eyes, the entire world had fundamentally changed.
Nemus did not panic.
He opened the Book of Ages and looked at the contents on its first page.
[I, Nels Dartmen%...¥Y, Nemus Anelli, was born into this world!]
Upon seeing the very first sentence, Nemus couldn't help but freeze for a moment before bursting into laughter. This book was indeed extraordinary; it could actually observe one of his true identities just by him slightly lowering his guard.
[I was born into a noble family named Anin.]
'I see. It uses my own existence to rearrange these words.' The text in the Book of Ages hadn't actually changed at all; the original content was still there.
The reason these new details appeared was simply that Nemus, fueled by the Fey Power from the Fey Potion, was using his own existence to observe the world on a deeper level.
This kind of observation was equivalent to using his very being to influence the Book of Ages. Thus, in his eyes, the book's contents had changed.
'The one who reads the book is, in themselves, half the writer.'
At that very moment, Nemus activated his traits.
Containment Control (Watchman), Aberrant Eater (Leah), and Fusion Essence (Opper's Merchant Group).
All three traits began to operate under Nemus's command. The various energies generated by the ingested Fey Potion were swiftly brought under his control and amplified.
Massive amounts of Fey Power were mastered bit by bit, causing the Book of Ages before him to undergo further transformations.
Nemus discovered that the Book of Ages had actually become interactive.
He gently tapped the word 'Anin,' and historical information immediately unfolded.
[The Anin Family, founded by the descendants of Saint Anin. The Saint's Bloodline of this family manifests in the hands, known as the Hand of the Saint.]
And within this entry, there was another interactive point: 'Saint Anin.'
Nemus didn't click on it. Instead, he continued to flip through the remaining contents of the Book of Ages.
He could sense that interacting with history like this consumed an exceptionally large amount of Fey Power.
The power provided by a single vial of Fey Potion simply couldn't support extensive exploration.
Besides, he already knew quite a bit of information about Saint Anin.
Skipping over his own childhood experiences, Nemus subsequently felt a certain overarching tide of history flowing through the pages.
During the Anin era, Nemus could see that the Precept Church had undergone numerous changes.
All these changes ultimately drove Nemus toward his final fate—being sacrificed and turned into a Cherubim.
