Chapter 91: Actual Combat—Defeating an Entire Ogre Clan with the Power of One Dragon!
Chapter 91: Actual Combat—Defeating an Entire Ogre Clan with the Power of One Dragon!
In the deep night, Garoth retracted his dragon wings and hovered above the cloud layer.
His gaze pierced through the thin mist and darkness, overlooking the hills below.
The Shattered Spine Hills—territory of the Bonegnaw Clan ogres.
Six years ago, Garoth had roughly scouted this place, and now, the general landscape of the hills remained unchanged, but the ogre territory atop had transformed beyond recognition, completely unlike his memories.
The once sparse ogre encampments had now expanded into a sprawling cluster of tribes spanning several miles.
Over a hundred tents sewn from giant beast hides parasitized the earth like tumors.
The number of campfires was more than ten times what he remembered, each fire surrounded by five or six well-fed, muscular ogres.
They wore trophies necklaces strung with prey teeth, donned metal skirt armor, and wielded weapons of steel such as maces, great axes, and war hammers—all of considerable quality.
Numerous elite ogre warriors stood around four meters tall, with even the ordinary adult ogres exceeding three meters in height.
There were also multiple ogre sorcerers present. The most eye-catching sight was the throne atop the central hill.
It was a massive platform built from the skeletons of unknown creatures, its surface coated with a dark red lacquer made from a mixed metal alloy, standing out vividly in the night.
Karu Bonegnaw occupied the throne.
This ogre was so large and distinct in appearance that it was hard to associate it with ordinary ogres.
Standing six meters tall, it resembled a giant.
Though bulky, it was not fat; beneath its black iron-like skin were layers of gnarled muscles resembling millennia-old tree vines. Its mouth was full of shark-tooth-like sharp fangs, and it had a pair of upward-curving horns on its head. Its entire body looked as if cast from steel and iron, exuding an indestructible texture.
Four-meter-tall elite ogre warriors continuously carried various food offerings, even rocks and giant logs, to serve Karu.
And Karu accepted all without refusal.
Blood meat, stones, wood—it devoured them all, its appetite seemingly endless.
"This appearance... truly a Gluttonous Ogre! Samantha was not mistaken."
Garoth narrowed his eyes, silently observing from the night sky.
A Gluttonous Ogre was an extraordinarily rare high-rank mutation among ogres, possessing the Gluttony Talent that allowed it to surpass its original size limitations.
With enough food, a Gluttonous Ogre could continuously grow stronger without dying prematurely, inevitably becoming a legendary creature. At the same level, it could rival excellent dragons; ordinary White Dragons would struggle to defeat a Gluttonous Ogre.
Gazing down at the Gluttonous Ogre, Garoth felt a stir in his heart.
So far, he had no core vassals under his command.
Rampage Bears, gnolls, Graymane Werewolves—their limits capped out here. Even with dragon vein transformation, their talents remained limited; the clan’s scale and strength were inadequate for major endeavors.
Judging by the current scale of the Bonegnaw Clan, the Redeye Clan, Howling Moon Clan, and another lizardfolk clan had either abandoned their territories to hide or were on the brink of destruction. They were no match for the thriving Bonegnaw Clan.
“My own strength is paramount.”
“But a powerful vassal army is indispensable.”
Garoth pondered silently.
It was well known that evil dragons were prone to siege and extermination. Those brave enough to hunt dragons or adventurers would tirelessly track and attack them.
A strong vassal army could resolve many unnecessary troubles on behalf of the evil dragon.
Garoth did not consider himself an evil dragon but rather a neutral dragon. Yet he was fully aware that once discovered, he would be hunted and besieged as an evil dragon.
He could not always abandon his territory and flee with his tail between his legs whenever a purge came.
Relocating to unfamiliar lands was risky; no monster lord would give up their territory unless absolutely forced.
Garoth decided he needed to prepare in advance.
“This Gluttonous Ogre has not yet matured, and this ogre clan—they can become my core vassals.”
His hunting instincts flared as he thought about how to tame the ogres.
Here was one Gluttonous Ogre, three ogre sorcerers, and numerous elite ogre warriors.
“Go check on the gnolls and Graymane Werewolves. If they’re not wiped out, regroup and unify them. Then bring Samantha, the Rampage Bears, the fire lizards, and the giant fire ants to jointly attack the Bonegnaw Clan.”
This was Garoth’s first idea, born of caution and careful calculation.
His gaze flickered as he stared at the ogre territory, then slowly shook his head.
One of Garoth’s goals was to one day defeat the entire world with the power of a single dragon, no longer needing to live cautiously.
His current caution was to achieve that future goal.
Though cautious, he was not timid.
Garoth was clear about his level and status. He had a precise understanding of his own strength and would not suppress himself unnecessarily, lest he play the fool for too long and truly become one.
“My speed and burst power, combined with my newly evolved dragon wings, already put me in an invincible position.”
“I do not need to fear an ogre clan or an immature Gluttonous Ogre. I can defeat them alone.”
“The goal of defeating the world with the power of one dragon... will begin with this ogre clan.”
After careful consideration, Garoth confirmed that this was not arrogance or pride but a rational assessment of both sides’ strength. He even took a small pinch of faerie scale powder to enhance mental acuity.
Having made up his mind, he prepared to act.
Meanwhile, the Gluttonous Ogre Karu was crunching on a slab of marble handed over by clan members, snapping and swallowing it.
Its appetite was enormous. If it ate only fresh meat, it would drag down the entire clan. As chieftain, for the clan’s long-term development, Karu also ate stones to fill its hunger.
This was not only for the clan’s sake but for itself.
Only if the clan grew strong could it be supplied with more food.
Suddenly, Karu sensed an unusual scent and paused chewing, lifting its head to look skyward.
A dragon silhouette, unabashedly emanating dragon might and aura, appeared in the Gluttonous Ogre’s sight.
Not only Karu but also the elite ogre warriors and several sorcerers noticed the dragon’s appearance.
Yet they showed little fear; instead, they were eager to test their strength.
Since the Gluttonous Ogre’s birth, the Bonegnaw Clan had been in a state of excitement and unyielding momentum. Any obstacle or creature appearing before them would be torn apart and become food to fuel their growth.
“It’s a Young Dragon.”
The most experienced two-headed ogre sorcerer said simultaneously with both heads.
“What dragon species?”
Karu asked.
The left head said, “Looks like a red dragon.” The right head disagreed, “No, it’s an iron dragon!”
“It must be a red dragon!”
“It must be an iron dragon!”
The two heads argued until they started fighting, the sorcerer seeming mentally deranged, swinging fists that sometimes hit the left head and other times the right.
Karu asked again, “Is it tasty?”
Whether it could be eaten and if it was delicious were the Gluttonous Ogre’s main concerns.
The two-headed sorcerer stopped moving and answered in unison, “Definitely tasty!”
Drool dripped from Karu’s mouth.
It tilted its head and, with a sly look in its eyes, shouted in a rough voice, “Dragon in the sky, please come down to visit the Bonegnaw Clan. I am willing to share food with you!”
The red iron dragon suddenly flapped its wings but did not dive down. Instead, it dispersed the surrounding clouds to create a hollow several hundred meters wide, then shot straight up into the higher sky, as if frightened, escaping.
Karu watched the shrinking, hard-to-see dragon silhouette with longing and sighed.
But before lowering its gaze, it suddenly noticed a flash of red light suddenly shining high in the distant sky, tearing through the firmament like a crimson comet falling from the heavens.
That pair of deadly dragon wings flapped, and thick dark red flame streams surged from the tips of the silver crystal bones.
Garoth’s speed surged.
The crimson scales on his wing membranes vibrated at high frequency, cutting through the air with a thousand razor-like hums. His explosive scales also gradually turned glowing red from the rapid friction with the air. As his altitude decreased, a muffled thunderous roar resounded.
The rocky walls cracked, and small debris fell quietly.
The sonic boom from breaking the sound barrier caused ordinary ogres in the Bonegnaw Clan to painfully cover their ears.
Karu suddenly stood up, his eyes shining with fierce light, staring intently at the descending red iron dragon resembling a comet.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
He thumped his chest, producing a drum-like sound. His bulky body visibly tightened, every muscle fiber coiling like steel wire, containing immense terrifying power.
“Come, dragon!”
He roared.
The elite warriors all tightened their grips on their weapons, forming battle formations. Several sorcerers began casting spells, waiting for the dragon’s landing.
However, they were disappointed.
When Garoth was about three hundred meters above the ground, he suddenly flapped his wings.
Boom!
A wave of energy spread, uprooting some tents and tossing them into the air. Dust and stones swirled in chaos.
But this was only the slightest ripple.
Garoth did not stop. Flames surged turbulently behind his wings. His body traced a graceful arc in the air, astonishingly maneuvering to instantly change direction and ascend once more.
At the same time, the scorching red explosive scales, having converted enough heat energy from air friction, rained down densely like a torrential storm, engulfing the Bonegnaw Clan.
Karu’s pupils suddenly contracted.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Balls of roaring flames erupted skyward with explosions sounding like furious dragon roars, swallowing the Gluttonous Ogre along with the elite warriors and sorcerers surrounding him entirely.
