Chapter 57: Enslavement Contract
Chapter 57: Enslavement Contract
Needleleaf Valley, Rampage Bear Ridge.
The golden dawn illuminated the mountain rocks and vegetation, coating everything in a dazzling radiance.
Garoth held the scruff of the faerie dragon Vira's neck with his claws, lifting her like a kitten to examine her closely. "So you're saying you come from the Serene Spirit Wilderness?"
The faerie dragon's tail drooped as she nodded.
Garoth clicked his tongue, surprised this little creature actually had some notable origins.
Serene Spirit Wilderness.
Also known as the Faerie Wilds, this was a dimensional plane inhabited by various fey creatures—and not some obscure minor plane either. On the contrary, it was quite famous, home to numerous deities of miniature races.
At this moment, knowledge about the structure of worlds and planes surfaced in Garoth's mind.
Simply put, planes were clusters of worlds.
Countless different worlds nestled together like bubbles, forming planes based on shared characteristics. The world Garoth currently inhabited belonged to the Material Plane.
The Material Plane served as the foundation for all other planes—the most balanced in elements and most suitable for diverse races and creatures to inhabit and develop. Other planes typically possessed distinct characteristics better suited for specific types of beings.
For example, the notorious Abyssal Plane belonged to demons.
The Serene Spirit Wilderness was the domain of fey creatures.
"According to her story, she got accidentally pulled into the Material Plane out of curiosity, and because of that same curiosity, ended up caught by me."
"A faerie dragon's curiosity is like a wicked dragon's arrogance and conceit."
"That innate curiosity led her step by step to her current predicament—my captive."
Garoth stared at the faerie dragon while reminding himself never to let desires and emotions control him. Otherwise, this faerie dragon would serve as his cautionary tale.
Samantha approached with the sulfurous scent characteristic of red dragons, eyeing Vira with fascination.
"Is that... a faerie dragon?!"
"Garoth, where did you catch this faerie dragon?"
The young red dragon licked her jaws, eyes gleaming with appetite.
"She looks delicious. I've heard fey creatures taste wonderful—can I try her?"
Dragons didn't practice cannibalism among their kind.
But faerie dragons were simply too weak.
Strength-worshipping red dragons' traditions didn't recognize faerie dragons as true dragons, classifying them instead as fey creatures like pique spirits or leprechauns.
"Vira has no meat! Not tasty! Don't eat me!"
Terrified by Samantha, the faerie dragon covered her eyes with her claws, not daring to look at the red dragon.
"No."
Garoth rejected Samantha's request.
"She's my spoils of war and useful to me. Don't get any ideas."
As he spoke, Garoth spat out the Frost Silver Ring and handed it to Samantha.
"It's out of energy—recharge it for me."
This ice-attribute alchemical tool couldn't be recharged by Garoth himself.
Though Samantha lacked ice-based abilities, as an alchemist she possessed skills to convert magical energy into item power for recharging.
Taking the Frost Silver Ring, Samantha cast several longing glances at the faerie dragon before reluctantly returning to her newly rebuilt alchemy workshop in the Rampage Bear Ridge clearing.
"Whew... That was close."
The faerie dragon exhaled in relief, giving Garoth a grateful look as she whispered:
"Th-thank you for not letting her eat me."
Garoth's eyes gleamed, noticing this faerie dragon's logic was rather skewed.
She didn't seem to consider that Garoth's capture caused this situation in the first place, instead separating the events to thank him for saving her from the evil red dragon's maw.
"She should be easy to trick."
Garoth pondered, then hatched a scheme.
Holding the faerie dragon in his right claw, he closed his eyes and muttered strange words she couldn't comprehend while extending a sharp talon from his left claw to trace patterns in the air.
It resembled some mystical ritual.
Finally, Garoth abruptly tapped the faerie dragon's forehead with his claw.
"Done. The contract is sealed."
Garoth released the faerie dragon immediately.
Uncertain what had transpired, the freed faerie dragon didn't flee but blinked nervously and curiously. "Contract? Wh-what contract?"
Garoth declared: "An enslavement contract, of course."
The faerie dragon looked skeptical.
She'd felt no obvious magical fluctuations.
And she doubted Garoth could master such high-level magic as enslavement contracts.
Yet...
Garoth's serious expression didn't seem deceptive.
Garoth smiled slyly. "Don't you feel your body heating up with a racing heartbeat now?"
The faerie dragon panicked, spinning in place as her heartbeat accelerated further.
"H-how did you know?!"
Garoth solemnly explained: "Because that's the sign of a successful contract. Your life now rests in my claws."
The body heat came from Garoth subtly raising the air temperature, while the racing heart was purely from fear.
Enslavement contracts and spells were never low-level magic.
Garoth truly didn't know any—his current sorcerer abilities granted by bloodline contained no such spells.
I'm doomed! Enslaved by an evil dragon!
The faerie dragon slumped in resignation.
"Wh-what do you want with me?"
Remembering Garoth's ferocious tree-chopping display earlier, the faerie dragon trembled in fear.
"Relax, I don't intend to harm you."
Garoth chuckled. "Quite the opposite—my enslavement offers you protection too. If you behave, I'll permit you to roam freely in the valley. The rampaging bears will become your companions, neither harming you but playing with you instead."
After intimidation came enticement.
Garoth targeted the faerie dragon's inherent nature.
As a dragon himself, he knew draconic weaknesses perfectly.
Just as expected, the faerie dragon's dimmed eyes brightened instantly at his words.
Play!
That word struck the faerie dragon like a stimulant.
Ever since arriving in the Material Plane, Vira hadn't enjoyed proper playtime.
Creatures here grew increasingly vicious and terrifying, none willing to play with her—instead opening their maws to devour her upon sight.
She'd been forced to hide constantly, amusing herself by stealthily pranking rampaging bears with invisibility spells.
The bears remained oblivious to her existence, ignoring her antics entirely.
This unresponsive form of play left the faerie dragon increasingly despondent, her scales losing luster daily.
"Okay okay!"
She nodded excitedly, circling around Garoth.
"Will you play with me too? Vira loves playing most!"
