Chapter 29: Cunning Evil Dragon!
Chapter 29: Cunning Evil Dragon!
“A young Brass Dragon with Life Level 7.”
Garoth fixed his gaze on the Brass Dragon, which resembled a crimson sandstorm as it flew straight toward him. Using the Life Level Detection Technique, he confirmed its life level was the same as his.
A young dragon.
A dragon between the ages of 16 and 25.
Garoth couldn’t determine its exact age, but judging by its roughly nine-meter-long body, it fell within the young dragon category. It could possibly be an exceptionally developed hatchling, but the probability was low.
As for why this young dragon’s life level matched his own hatchling level, the reason was simple.
The physique of dragons varied greatly.
Among dragon species,
both red dragons and iron dragons were top-tier.
Brass dragons ranked near the bottom among metallic dragons. At the same age, their life level was far inferior to that of red or iron dragons, and they couldn’t compare at all to an outstanding hybrid like Garoth. If it were a young gold dragon, its life level would be at least 9. The Brass Dragon did not dive directly to attack Garoth.
Instead, it hovered slightly and finally landed on a scorched rock platform.
About a hundred meters from Garoth, its spiraled horns reflected the blazing noon sun.
Tilting its head, it scrutinized Garoth’s cracked scales.
Its tail tip rhythmically tapped the ground as it paced left and right, weighing its options.
A red iron hybrid dragon nearly seven meters long, Life Level 7, smaller than itself but very sturdy. Oh my, its dragon wings looked like deadly weapons—its heart must be truly evil.
It was probably not to be trifled with.
But I have three alchemical tools given by my parents. That’s more than enough to handle a foolish dragon of the same level.
After pondering for a few seconds,
the Brass Dragon curled the corner of its mouth into a pleased smile, paused, and stared at Garoth. It said, “Oh, naturally evil red iron hybrid dragon, now it’s question time.”
“Tell me, what is something that needs both fire extinguishing and rust removal to survive?”
Among the five types of metallic dragons,
the personalities of brass and brass-colored dragons were the most annoying to others.
Brass dragons were overly talkative and fond of tormenting opponents with words. When they had the upper hand, they might control their opponents—like burying them in earth, leaving only the head exposed, then forcing them to listen to endless chatter.
Brass dragons were less loquacious than brass dragons,
but they loved to tease and prank enemies with what they thought were humorous jokes instead of attacking outright.
If one offended a Brass Dragon in the wild, offering interesting jokes, stories, or riddles often earned forgiveness, and even their appreciation and favor.
Meanwhile,
the Brass Dragon chuckled continuously.
“The answer is—you! The temper of a red dragon combined with the rigidity of an iron dragon is the worst recipe.”
Its voice sounded relatively clear to other dragons, like wind chimes in the desert. Its evenly slender and elongated figure indicated this was a female Brass Dragon.
As she spoke,
the Brass Dragon lowered her body slightly, muscles in her limbs tensed, ready for battle.
The alchemical tool pressed beneath her tongue was already prepared to activate, ready to strike the raging red iron hybrid dragon charging toward her.
But what the Brass Dragon did not expect was,
the evil dragon before her did not play by the usual rules. Despite such provocation, he remained unmoved. Instead, he swung his dragon wings and soared into the sky, flying off into the distance.
Garoth ignored the Brass Dragon and had no interest in entangling himself further.
Metallic dragons valued family bonds.
When young dragons went adventuring, they often received equipment from elders or life-saving spells engraved inside their scales—often more than one piece.
Just a glance earlier,
Garoth noticed the Brass Dragon wore a large gold chain around her neck and a red ring hanging from the tip of her wing. Both shimmered faintly under the sun, with dense runes faintly visible on them.
That was just what could be seen openly.
Who knew if she had other hidden alchemical tools or life-saving protective scales?
Unlike gold dragons who liked to fight head-on with imposing power, Brass Dragons had a cunning and sinister temperament, somewhat like the green dragons among the five-colored dragons.
Unless the stakes were huge or life-threatening, Garoth wouldn’t fight without confidence.
“Hey! Are you a rare cowardly evil dragon? Don’t run!”
The Brass Dragon was stunned for a moment, then flapped her wings and took off, relentlessly chasing Garoth.
To her surprise, her speed was far slower than Garoth’s. Despite her bulky, heavy-looking body, her huge and exaggerated wings fully supported and provided incredible flight power.
The distance between them quickly widened.
“What fast speed.”
Her competitive spirit ignited. The Brass Dragon persisted, determined to make the evil red iron hybrid dragon accept righteous punishment.
The fiery red ring hanging from her wingtip lit up,
the runes one by one glowing brightly.
The color intensified, and the heat distorted the surrounding air.
The fiery red ring became like a glowing hot iron rod.
Whoosh!
A burst of flames ignited and rapidly spread, radiating along the Brass Dragon’s wings, coating them with flowing fire.
With each wingbeat, blazing flames surged upward.
The Brass Dragon’s speed soared.
Garoth glanced back and noticed the flowing fire on her wings.
“An alchemical tool that attaches fire, somewhat similar to my lightning tail ring.”
He thought to himself.
“Let’s... first test its level.”
A dangerous gleam flashed in Garoth’s eyes.
Suddenly turning his head, the red iron young dragon opened his mouth and unleashed
a conical breath made of flames and lightning. It burst forth like countless blooming flowers of brilliant electric fire, fast and accurate, racing through the air toward the Brass Dragon.
The Brass Dragon was caught off guard.
By the time she reacted, the electric fire breath inherited from the iron dragon bloodline was already close.
In pure destructive power, the electric fire breath was inferior to the fiery breath of a red dragon, but it was faster and had a paralyzing effect, making it more effective overall.
At the last critical moment,
the gold chain around the Brass Dragon’s neck suddenly glowed.
A golden shield appeared, covering her body and attaching to her scale surface.
Sizzle!
The electric fire breath struck the golden shield; its lightning and flame damage were blocked, and the golden shield quickly dimmed.
The Brass Dragon sidestepped with lingering fear, narrowly avoiding the follow-up electric fire breath.
But she was not frightened; instead, she continued chasing Garoth.
Garoth’s breath had failed to pierce her defense, which only made her more confident she could easily defeat him.
“Sneaky and evil fellow, sneak attacks are useless against absolute strength.”
The Brass Dragon snorted lightly, thinking to herself.
Arrogance and pride were common flaws among dragons, and metallic dragons were no exception. It was not unique to five-colored dragons or iron hybrids.
