Chapter 70 **
Chapter 70 **
Maya
The smell of food fills my nostrils, and I immediately crack my eyes open to get some of my usual rotten fruit and pellets on a Friday morning. If you are hungry enough, everything tastes like heaven, including rotten, magical apples.
"Breakfast!" A guard announces and pushes a tray with food below the bars for me to take.
I greedily snap up the food but freeze when I spot the guard preparing an even larger tray with more luxurious food. It makes sense. Arvin mentioned fairy blood, which means they need to keep the big guy healthy and robust to feed June.
And keeping the guy healthy means eating better food.
"There you go," The guard pushes the big tray inside and then proceeds to leave the basement. He mutters as he walks. "Filthy rats."
I don't take his comment to heart, and as soon as I'm alone with the fairy, I kick my tray to the side to save it for later and attack the fairy's more luxurious food. The brute is still sleeping and won't notice if the chicken wings are missing!
I throw food into my mouth as quickly as I can without caring about grease or dirtying my cheeks. There is a juice box, and I fill my mouth to the maximum and experience an orgasm.
My eyes roll to the back of my head when I've finished the juice, and I moan. Oh-my-god, I had forgotten what real food tastes likes, and shit, it's better than I remember!
After drinking the juice, I move over to the bread and happily fill my mouth with the soft, cloudy, and fantastic food until I feel a light tap on my shoulder.
Uh-oh.
With mechanical movements, I slowly turn around and break into a sweat the second I spot my towering roommate smiling down at me. His lips are pulled up to his ears in a grin so tight-lipped it's looking like it might hurt his flawless skin.
"Oh-my-god, you're so big!" I'm nervously laughing and hold up a piece of bread in an attempt to please him. "You want some bread?"
The fairy blinks and tilts his head with his curious gaze landing on the offered bread. He slowly reaches out his hand and accepts my peace offering, which I take as my chance to skitter away from him.
Run-run-run!
My heart is panging inside my chest as I glue myself to the wall like a lizard, hoping the fairy might not be too pissed-off with me. I stole the brute's food, which can't have left an excellent first impression.
I look down at my sad tray and pick up a rotten apple with a half-smile gracing my face. The witches always cast a spell on them before serving them so I won't get sick, and yet, I find the fairy staring at me with a wrinkled nose like I'm utterly disgusting.
I lift an eyebrow. "It's better than starving!"
Since my roommate was injected with a weird serum, he can't talk, yet that doesn't stop him from facepalming. Inhaling sharply, he rakes his fingers through his white hair and then observes me with his strange, glowing eyes.
I'm not sure where I get air from, but I'm not afraid to voice my thoughts for some reason. "You can't judge me! I hardly ever eat, and these apples, man..." I shudder. "They are delicious."
I wag my eyebrows, and suddenly the ground is trembling, and I pay notice to the massive man laughing but trying to stifle it with the palm of his hand. It's not working out for him. There might not be any sounds from his mouth, but there is still the air from his nose—not to mention a charming grin on his lips.
At that moment, I find the fairy stunning. My roommate looks so happy and carefree when the dimples show on his face that I experience not butterflies but bats inside my chest. Still, I avert my eyes the minute I realize my thoughts aren't appropriate.
I shouldn't trust or like anyone.
And I should never appreciate someone's looks, no matter how pretty they are, or by how much they are packing. I mean that bulge? Phew.
My train of thought gets interrupted by the tray sliding across the floor, stopping by my folded leg. I'm sitting in a lotus position and lift my eyes, finding the man leaning his chin against the palm of his hand.
What?
I stare down at the tray, noticing the fairy hasn't eaten anything, not even the seasoned chicken wings. "Is this a trick?"
The fairy grins in a teasing manner, but eventually, he shakes his head as if telling me no.
"Are you positive?" Suspicion churns in my stomach. I don't trust this guy, and come to think of it, didn't fairies eat humans?
A gasp leaves my mouth. "Wait a minute! Are you feeding me to prepare me for the slaughter? Make me round and juicy, thick enough for you teeth to dig into?"
The fairy blinks at me with a stunned expression, and then his grin stretches for his ears as he shakes his head. He seems to find me massively amusing, and the smile won't disappear from his face.
And for some reason, that makes me irritated. I'm not used to people smiling around me, and I'm bothered because, just like the others, this guy will turn into a shark when I least expect it!
Ugh, I don't need any goddamn friends!
I grumpily dig into a chicken wing and jump in fright when I notice the fairy inching closer.
I yell at him. "What do you think you're doing?!"
The fairy gives me a sheepish smile, shrugging.
I eye him with caution, convinced he is secretly a serial killer. He got that dangerous gleam in his eye—I can see it! Soon, we will be discussing the weather and different foods, and then, when I least expect it, he will cut my throat and wear my skin like a jacket!
"That is close enough!" I hold up a chicken bone in a threatening matter and glare at the fairy while trying not to show a hint of fear. "I have a chicken bone, and I'm not afraid of using it!"
My roommate dares to give me another one of his silent but obvious laughing fits. His lips are struggling to contain themselves, but eventually, he slumps his shoulder to show his defeat.
And luckily for me, the fairy doesn't creep closer. Instead, the man keeps throwing me glances with that annoying smile on his face.
"Creep..." I mutter to myself and keep eating. My stomach isn't big enough to empty the plate, and I kick over the tray to the fairy, who won't stop fucking smiling at me—I swear to god!
"Why do you have to look so damn happy all the time?" I snap. But even though my voice is hostile, I'm afraid on the inside, scared the man might decide to harm me. "Stop smiling at me—it's not like we are friends or anything!"
Pain flashes in the fairy's eyes, and the smile immediately disappears from his lips. He silently picks up the tray and eats the rest of the food without looking at me.
Guilt pierces me like an arrow watching my potential new friend finish eating his breakfast. I hurt his feelings.
Was I too hard on him?
I sigh at my own confused emotions and get comfortable against the stone-cold wall. "You better get some sleep before Arvin's men will come by later. They always torture me after having eaten their lunch—it's how they manage their anger."
The man stops eating and studies me with a thoughtful expression. His eyes roam me in a way that makes me feel self-conscious. I'm skin and bones, and for some stupid, girly reason, my heart clutches with the fear of rejection. What if he hates what he sees?
I squeeze my eyes shut, only to open them when the fairy knocks on the metal tray to gain my attention. As soon as I face my roommate, he points at the bruises and scars along my legs.
Anguish and painful flashes from the past hit me, and I suck in a deep breath before speaking. "The guards don't like me, and this is how they show their distaste. Sometimes they use their hands, and other times, they cut into my skin with their claws."
I hug my dirty legs, and the fairy stares down at the ground with an expression I can't read—if I didn't know any better, I would say he was feeling sorry for me.
Since there isn't anything better to do, I stare down at the ground but look up when my friend stands up. His head kisses the ceiling, and the man grimaces after underestimating his height.
I stare at the giant guy, and my eyes travel further south automatically until my cheeks burn—his cock is pressing against the fabric of his boxers and leaving nothing to the imagination. And he is so big, much larger than any cock I've ever seen! Shit, I knew the guy was packing, but holy mother of cheese!
My jaw drops, and I can't pick it back up from the ground even when the man notices where I'm looking. He tilts his head with a hesitant lopsided smile, possibly wondering how I'm suddenly not shy, and the answer to that is that I'm too shocked to talk.
"Wow..." I babble without thinking, feeling my cheeks strain as my lips rise in a nervous smile. "You're big everywhere, like holy fuck—you could hurt someone with that thing! I bet people would pay to watch you in pornos, not that you would ever want to be in one! But still! You're m-massive and so perfect and-..." The fairy is half-smiling in a way that speaks of him not knowing what to think, and my cheeks turn molten. "And I-I should stop talking!" I clear my throat. "I'm done now."
I avert my eyes from the man, who collapses on the floor again. He cracks his neck, and then his blue eyes roam my face as if he doesn't know quite to think of me yet.
Eventually, he tries to crawl closer, but I shake my head in a frenzy, which leaves him with an even more bewildered expression. I can almost hear his voice inside my head, "but aren't you attracted to me?"
The fairy must be so disoriented.
Perhaps I should clear some things up?
I take a deep breath. "I'm terrified of men—I'm fine when you're far away from me, but when you're within range of touching me, I panic. You're gorgeous and your cobblestone abs are top-notch, but please, keep your distance."
A sigh bounces off the walls, and my heart falters. I worriedly look up, expecting the fairy man to frown at me, but instead, he is wearing a teasing grin.
Surprise fills my chest. "You don't think I'm weird?"
The man grins and lifts his hand. He uses his thumb and pointer finger to show me that he thinks I'm a tiny bit crazy, and I laugh.
"Okay, I'm a complete and utter weirdo, but that's not a problem for you?"
The response I get is a mysterious smile and then a shake of the man's head, telling me he accepts me for just the way I am. Even his wings seem to glow in a brighter, happier blue, which makes me smile—I sense a potential friendship blossoming between us.
I beam. "My name is Maya."
The man reaches out his hand, and fear grabs a grip of my throat. Touching him is scary, yet I stretch out a shaky arm, and when my new friend engulfs my much smaller hand, there are lightning bolts in the air.
