Chapter 60 **
Chapter 60 **
Alice
I officially hate what I've become.
Classical music is playing from an old-school stereo, and Riley is dancing around with me in a room with barely any furniture. She is humming the melody and throwing me around like a rag doll, not caring about the numbing pain in my limbs.
In Riley's eyes, I'm a toy, and in mine, I'm a lifeless zombie without a purpose. After hours of compulsion and a night of not sleeping, I'm so exhausted I've forgotten the meaning of breathing.
"Bravo, Alice!" Riley is beaming at me, showing her razor-sharp teeth as she twirls me around with graceful movements. "You're lovely with that red dress hugging your waist. Too bad your mate isn't around to watch you—William would love to see you dance."
My eyes water. I want to slap Riley's face, but my body is put under her compulsion and forced to dance against my will. Fuck, I'm so tired. I've been doing this for hours, first with June and now with Riley. I think the goal is to make my feet bleed and my bones cry out for help.
"That's enough, Riley." June walks into the room, followed by Jessica carrying a jewelry box on a purple, luxurious pillow.
"But I'm only just getting started! Alice and I haven't gotten to the best part yet!" Riley pouts but stops spinning me around when her sister sends her a glare. Riley mutters under her breath. "Killjoy."
June doesn't comment. With a satisfied smile, she watches me with cold, reptilian eyes. It is obvious June doesn't like me. William was her priced possession, a sex doll that I took away from her, and now she yearns to make me pay.
"Jessica," June clicks with her fingers. "Can you please be a doll and bring me Thunder, Leaf, and Draco?"
The witch smirks and then hands over the crystal balls to June. They look identical to the one housing Finn, but their colors are different, and when June rubs her nails across them, there aren't any fairies popping up.
Noticing my confusion, June laughs. "Oh, are you wondering why there aren't any fairies? Let me tell you why—Jessica and her coven found a way to kill the fairy but leave the power behind. Isn't that great?"
Riley gasps and narrows her eyes. "You should have told me before I threw away the blue orb!"
June snickers. "And let you be the master of the water element? Pft, I don't think so!"
Riley's lips part, but she closes them when a shimmer covers June.
"Ah," June inhales dreamily. "Power feels so great!"
I stare at the hybrid with my heart pounding in my ears. June is wearing one orb as her necklace and the other two as bracelets. Does this mean she can use the three elements at once?!
"Time to display my new abilities!"
June lifts her hand and aims thunder at the floor with her fingers bent. Electricity dance all around her, and the hybrid laughs when crackling flames are added to the equation. Soon rocks lift from the ground, and June twirls around in delight, sickened by the power.
"Brilliant!"
June is still bouncing around the room even as part of the ceiling falls because of the jumping lightning. Surprisingly, June doesn't seem to notice the destruction around her feet and keeps laughing even when Jessica places a hand on her friend's shoulder.
June spins around, upset. "What? Why are you interrupting me?"
Jessica takes a step back, wide-eyed. "Uh, I only wanted to point out that you're burning down the building."
"And?"
"And I thought you might want to have a place to live. I mean, the witches are upstairs, and you're sending lightning bolts left and right; perhaps you should tone it down?"
June snorts. "Tone it down?"
Hesitation flashes across Jessica's features upon noticing the dangerous glimmer in June's eye. Unfortunately, she is too late to realize her mistake, and June steps forward to touch her chest.
"I love your blouse."
Jessica swallows thickly, and June tilts her head, smiling wickedly with her eyes glowing in red.
"Too bad it's about to be stained."
I close my eyes when June slashes Jessica's throat. The woman doesn't even get a chance to defend herself. She is cut into two, and I look at her head roll in the opposite direction of her fallen body.
June licks Jessica's blood from her claws and winks at me as she steps around in the pool of red. "I didn't like her anyway—she was too annoying with all of her rules. She should have smiled more, don't you think?"
When I don't reply, June squints at me and forces a smile to my face with her supernatural compulsion strength. My lips strain until my cheeks are hurting and tears are dropping from my chin.
"Much better," June says and moves her hair to one side of her neck without being careful to color it red. "Do you like the taste of blood, Alice?"
I don't reply.
"That's what I thought!" June exclaims and shakes her head as if having told a hilarious joke only she is in on. "How can you know without having tried it out for yourself?"
June steps over Jessica's lifeless body to seize my head and smile at me like a predator. Her fingers dig into my skin, and her lips curl higher as she bends forward to kiss me with her bloodied lips.
I try to push her away when the sample proves too disgusting, but June only laughs and shoves her tongue into my mouth. Her compulsion keeps me from biting it off, and June circles it around before dipping away her head and laughing at me.
"It's good, right?" June is smacking her lips with her glowing eyes looking hungry and never satisfied. I can tell she demands more blood. "And If you're lucky, I let you drink a full glass of blood tomorrow for dinner—you will learn to love the flavor if you don't do it already, my dear."
I stare at her in horror while my body nods on its own—It's sick what games June's are playing on me, and suddenly, I get a deeper understanding of why William is so broken. June had him for years, while I've only been here for a day, and my mind has already been shattered.
Violence isn't something I consider the solution to things, but I wish June dead when I swallow a lump of disgusting, coagulated blood. In a perfect world, I would be the one to end the hybrid. June might be everyone's enemy, but the drama between us is personal.
