Chapter 103 **
Chapter 103 **
Kyra
I've always been a tomboy. I wear pants rather than dresses, and I love sleeveless shirts since they bring attention to my defined arms. I'm rather proud of my appearance. I might be a woman, but I'm rigid like stone, and if anyone stands in my way, I will punch through them.
"Let's see..." I lift my chin and read the letters. "Espresso House, huh? Is this where my mate is hiding?"
For days, I've been haunting my mate. The tree of life seldom gives us fairies a mate, but it happened to me. I woke up one day knowing I had to leave my world behind to find my person.
My heart wouldn't stop pounding, telling me my mate was in danger, and I couldn't live with the thoughts of them dying, so I left. I jumped into a portal, and now I'm here, one step away from meeting them.
A wide grin graces my lips as I enter the coffee shop. I've learned a lot from Finn about the human realm, and from what I've seen, human females are stunning.
I'm a lesbian, and I can't wait to meet my sweet human mate. I imagine them as this cute, shy little thing with curly brown hair and teeth biting into their lower lip, and gosh—I'm going to squeeze the shit out of them!
I have to find them quickly! I'm dying to meet them!
People are flocking the counter at the front, and I push through a few angry men while sniffing the air for my mate. They are close, but weirdly enough, they smell like expensive cologne.
Ugh, I guess they like men too? No worries! I will make them do a complete turn in life!
I push through a group of blonde, hissing girls with tiny dogs in their bags and grin widely. There is a table with three people sitting around it. One is my younger brother, Finn. Huh? What is he doing here?
Curiosity blossoms within me. I keep studying the trio, expecting the beautiful, white-haired woman to be my mate. Our eyes meet briefly from across the room, but I feel nothing.
The woman looks away and stands up to leave. Finn takes her hand, and I realize they are mates—it can be seen from a mile away. My brother looks spellbound, entirely caught up in her.
Which means my mate is someone else.
I take a seat and silently search the room even as Finn leaves with the woman, but there is no electricity with anyone I make eye contact with, no chemistry at all.
My hope dies, and I lift my chin when I hear the scrapping of a chair. The man who was in the company of Finn and the woman fixes his tie. I roll my eyes. I don't understand human fashion, definitely not suits.
Yet, I can't tear my eyes away from him. I've never been into men. Women are more graceful and magnificent, but this man makes me breathless with every move.
His hands are big and beautiful, and his hair is dark. His posture speaks of him being an aristocrat, and the air around him is different like he doesn't belong in this time and world.
My lips part and I whisper to myself. "No-no-no, bad Kyra! Stop looking at the beautiful man. You like boobs and vagene...."
My brain doesn't hear my words.
I exhale, enchanted by the gorgeous man as he rakes a hand through his thick hair. He is wickedly sexy and so stunning in the dim light, one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen.
Gosh, I'm already feeling light-headed.
His facial features are angular—a strong jawline, a straight nose, and cheekbones that could cut through wood.
My heart squeezes. I've always been different from other female fairies. I'm thick and muscular, and guys like the one before me have always given me low self-esteem.
Before I realized I was a lesbian, I lusted after the prettiest boy in our tribe, and he rejected and ridiculed me in front of everyone. I remember him laughing and making everyone else crack up by saying, "Shit, female Hercules thinks she got a chance on me!"
My mood darkens, and while I should look away from the man, our gazes clash, and I lose the ability to breathe. Every nerve, every single brain cell in my body squeals and recognizes: mate.
What the hell?
I've never liked men, so why is my mate a man?
I avert my eyes in an attempt to calm down my frantic heart. Part of me wants to run out from here, flee from the man, who I'm sure will reject me since I'm not tiny and cute.
"Hello."
My cheeks burn when I lift my eyes to the man's Adam's apple, and I shut my eyes, afraid to open them. If I stay silent, he might leave, and then I can lick my wounds and pretend this never happened.
"Uh... You're not deaf, are you?"
No, the gods are too cruel—even his voice is beautiful. He sounds sophisticated, and I nervously lift my head. I'm going down in flames, and his strange, red eyes got me quipping for air.
His eyes widen, and his expression makes it seem as if he has taken a direct punch to the face. The mate-bond is zapping between us, and I look him up and down, my jaw dropping to the floor when I notice he is taller than me.
Holy shit—this isn't some skinny half-assed teenage boy, but a well-built, handsome man—all the more reason to fear him.
Come on, Kyra, focus. Don't look at his broad shoulders or kissable lips; concentrate on something else.
"Fascinating..."
His spoken word picks my interest, and I speak without thinking. "Kyra."
The man's lips curve into a curious smile, and I fight the urge to run out through the doors of the coffee shop. "Is that your name?"
At the moment, my heart is threatening to climb out of my chest, yet I somehow manage to stand still.
The man tilts his head. "Could it be that you're nervous?"
I open my mouth, but not a sound comes out.
It's confusing how I find this man attractive. I haven't been interested in a man in forever, yet here I am, wishing he could wrap his muscular arms around me—what is wrong with me?
"Hey?"
He taps my shoulder, and I freak out. Every nerve-ending is tingling, burning as I stand there, gazing up at my mate.
"Oh-my-god... You're gorgeous and so breathtaking I can't fucking think straight, and I don't know what to do! What am I doing?"
I only realize I've said my thoughts out loud when the man chuckles. Amusement lights up his handsome face, and I internally scream when he playfully winks at me.
"Breathtaking, huh?" His voice is all charming tease. "Well, you're not so bad yourself—you're very pleasing for the eyes, exquisite. May I know your name?"
Panic settles in, and I press my palm over my quivering lips before tucking my tail between my legs. I run from the tall man, who is laughing behind me, probably confused as hell.
He shouts after me. "My name is Elijah!"
I turn around in the door frame, blushing when I find the man crossing his arms over his chest. He is wearing a smile, so gathered and sophisticated. He is like a beautiful painting while I'm a wildling, someone who would taint him with my hands.
And despite that, I want to know more about him. So I part my lips and shyly tell him my name. "Kyra."
Elijah stares at me. "Kyra?"
I don't stick around to find out why he looks so surprised. I'm too unsettled—I never expected my mate to be a man, and a handsome one at that—destiny is a mysterious thing.
