Chapter 196: As His Sister, I Have No Right to Oppose
Chapter 196: As His Sister, I Have No Right to Oppose
Hawke Family’s ancestral home.
Damon Hawke was called back by the two elders of the Hawke family.
"Dad, Mom, what’s up?"
The two elders looked at him, and Madam Hawke spoke first, "Damon, we visited Charlie today."
What!
Damon’s expression changed slightly, a hint of wariness flickering in his dark eyes.
"Dad, Mom, you didn’t do anything, did you?"
He was afraid the elderly couple would have a bad attitude toward Elara Don.
"Child, do you think we’d harm Elara Don? Do you see us as unreasonable people?"
Madam Hawke spoke with displeasure.
"Yeah, Damon, even though we consider if your partner can assist your career, we want you to be happy more."
Elder Hawthorne also disapproved.
Damon’s pupils moved slightly, looking at the two with some suspicion.
"So, what do you mean?"
"What we mean is, Elara Don is a pretty good woman. If you truly want to marry her, we have no objections."
Madam Hawke spoke.
Beside her, Elder Hawthorne nodded in agreement.
Damon’s eyes brightened, "Dad, Mom, do you really agree for me to be with Elara Don? You don’t mind her low status, nor that she has a child?"
If his parents agreed, then his concerns would be gone.
He wouldn’t have to approach Elara Don under the guise of a thug anymore.
He could legitimately be in a relationship with her openly!
"Though her status is low, her character is decent. As for her child..."
Elder Hawthorne paused, "We also met that child, Bea, today. He seems well-raised by Elara Don. If he enters the Hawke family with his mother, he could be a companion to Charlie."
The child also likes insects.
He’d even want Elara Don to enter the Hawke family right now.
That way, someone could accompany him in studying insects.
"Dad, Mom, thank you for your support."
Damon was very happy, speaking genuinely.
"Damon, we’re getting old. We just hope the whole family is healthy and safe."
Madam Hawke paused, then straightforwardly asked, "So when do you plan to marry her?"
"This..."
"Marry her? Mom, who do you want Damon to marry?"
Vinny Hawke’s voice came from the doorway.
The group turned around, seeing Vinny changing his shoes as he walked in.
"Vinny, you’re back."
Madam Hawke’s old eyes flickered slightly, her smile a bit unnatural.
Daughter would surely oppose Damon marrying Elara Don.
She and her husband planned to inform Damon today first, then slowly work on their daughter’s thoughts.
"Mom, you still haven’t answered me. Who do you want Damon to marry? Evelyn Miles?"
Vinny walked up to the three, asking once more.
"Vinny, your mom and I discussed it. We think Elara Don is good, so..."
Elder Hawthorne began.
"So, you’re planning to have Damon marry Elara Don?"
Vinny looked incredulous, "Dad, Mom, don’t forget, that woman not only has a low status, but she also has a child. Letting someone like that marry Damon, aren’t you afraid of him becoming a laughingstock for life!"
The two elders exchanged a glance, their expressions a bit embarrassed.
"Vinny, your dad and I met Elara Don today. She takes good care of Charlie, proving to be a good wife and mother. We think Damon’s happiness is most important."
Madam Hawke tried to persuade.
"Yeah, Vinny, since both Damon and Charlie like Elara Don, why not let Damon go through with it?"
Elder Hawthorne chimed in too.
Vinny’s face turned grim, glancing around before speaking, "You’re still talking about this! Why did you let Charlie move into Elara Don’s home without consulting me? Can’t you see? This is that woman’s tactic!"
"Elara Don is just a manipulative woman, knowing we value Charlie, so she starts with him. See, she’s succeeded, getting both of you to side with her! She’s probably delighted now, just waiting to marry into the Hawke family!"
Upon hearing this, Elder Hawthorne said, "Vinny, you’re prejudiced against Elara Don. She told us personally today that she never thought of marrying into the Hawke family."
"Dad, that’s just her retreating to advance!"
"No, Vinny, I’m not senile! I can still see who’s genuine and who’s fake."
"Dad, were you also won over by Elara Don? It shows just how capable that woman is!"
"Vinny..."
"Enough! Everyone stop talking!"
Listening to the conversation, Damon, who had remained silent, suddenly spoke up.
The group simultaneously looked at him, momentarily speechless.
Damon’s gaze swept over them, "Dad, Mom, thank you for your support. I have never given up pursuing Elara Don, although she keeps rejecting me. Now with your support, I will be more confident."
Pausing, Damon looked at Vinny.
"Sis, you’re too extreme. Elly isn’t as scheming as you think. She’s been rejecting me all this time; it’s me who’s persistently pursuing her. I like her, and I’ll win her over. It’s getting late, you all should rest early. I’m leaving."
After saying that, Damon turned to leave.
"Damon, stop right there."
Vinny’s chest rose and fell with emotion, sternly calling out to Damon.
Damon paused his steps, turning to look at her, "Sis, anything else?"
Vinny’s expression was grim, "Damon, what’s so good about Elara Don? What do you see in her? Her looks? Does she just look like Evelyn Miles? Now that Evelyn Miles is back, are you still mad that she left you back then, and can’t you just get over it?"
At those words, Damon’s brows knitted, "Sis, Evelyn and I are long past; I like Elara Don, unrelated to anyone else, don’t mix them up."
What about Elara Don looking like Evelyn Miles?
Is that what others think too?
So when these words reached Elara Don’s ears, did it make her so uninterested in him?
"Damon, you can like anyone, just not Elara Don."
Vinny glared at Damon, "I forbid you from seeing Elara Don. I won’t agree to her entering the Hawke family."
Because of this woman, just look at Damon’s attitude towards her now?
She just didn’t like Elara Don!
"Sis, even if Mom and Dad don’t oppose, as my sister, what right do you have to object?"
Damon’s face turned cold, "I’ll say it again, I am determined to marry Elara Don. Sis, focus less on my matters."
Having said that, he no longer lingered and left in large strides.
"Damon Hawke, stop right there!"
Vinny’s expression became extremely harsh, her eyes reddening.
The two Hawke elders exchanged a look, both heaving a silent sigh.
Seeing their daughter trying to hold back tears, Madam Hawke stepped forward and handed her a tissue.
"Vinny, don’t be upset. Damon has his own mind. Intervening might not be the best."
