Cyberpunk: Ultimate Cyborg System

Chapter 632: Hey, Sunshine.

Chapter 632: Hey, Sunshine.

Friday, March 20

A luxury service car came to a stop at what was now known as Red Oni Street, and from the back, four individuals came out. Their arrival drew the eyes of the people lining up to enter the nightclub at the corner. The girls, in particular were deserving of attention. Both were striking beauties dressed in black party dresses, but the contrast between them couldn't be more apparent. One was tall and voluptuous, with bright orange hair that seemed to glow with her radiant smile; the other was slim and petite, and her mood was as dark as the color of her hair.

The other two took their place behind the girls as if they were bodyguards. One wore a suit with no tie, while the other opted for a leather jacket and hoodie combo, using the hood to cover his silvery white hair.

"This… this really feels like a bad idea…"

Beatrice had been against the idea, but her authority as Silver Wind's leader didn't work in this situation, seeing as they weren't acting as agents of the BEO. Tonight, the four of them were nothing more than a bunch of youths who went out to have a good time.

"So exciting!" Merry was one step away from jumping with joy.

"Why do I get the feeling that this will end in a disaster?" Kafka sighed.

"This was your idea," Wolf said.

"No point complaining now! Let's get going!"

The relief Merry's smile brought made it seem like the risk they were taking was worth it. The attention they were getting made it clear that people recognized them, but no one tried to approach them even as they stood in line. It felt like they would face their first problem at the door, but with Beatrice already having her ID out, the bouncer let them through despite looking confused.

"Whoa…"

The atmosphere slammed into them like one of Beatrice's walls of wind. The lights, the music, the dancing crowd, it was a little too much to take in one go. Wolf in particular had a difficult time handling it. His hearing was many times stronger than that of an average person, and even with his ears covered, staying there was the last thing he wanted to do.

"C'mon! Let's get going!"

Merry was the only one who seemed unaffected. Taking Beatrice's hand, she rushed in and went straight to the dance floor.

"I'm getting myself a drink." Said Kafka. "You?"

"Yeah…" Wolf grimaced. "I will take one..."

He wasn't the drinking type, but it felt like he wouldn't survive the night without some alcohol in his system. Kafka went to one of the bars while Wolf found a spot from which he could watch Merry and Beatrice. Surprisingly, their team leader seemed to try to keep up with the orange-haired one, doing her best to discard her shyness and dance.

Seeing her like that, Wolf realized that this was the first time they had gone on such an outing. They were bought for most of their lives. Once they went through the Genome treatment and got their powers, it felt like they had quite a bit of free time, but with them being on standby through it all, it didn't feel like they could just go out and do what they wanted.

"Hey, handsome, why the glum face?"

Snapping out of his thoughts, Wolf looked down and saw that he was surrounded by a group of four scantily clad girls. He hadn't noticed when they appeared, and that caused him one wave of panic after the other.

"This isn't the place to dwell on things."

"C'mon, cheer up!"

"Come dance with us!"

Before he knew it, Wolf found himself being dragged away to the dance floor. Kafka watched it happen from the sides, then looked down at the cups in his hands. Heaving a sigh, he raised both of them at the same time and downed their contents in one go, earning himself a round of applause from a nearby group.

Two cute girls dancing alone were bound to attract some hungry wolves, but Merry managed to chase them away without removing her smile. Strangely enough, they were far less persistent than one might expect from the patrons of a nightclub in a relatively poor part of the city.

About an hour in, the music suddenly stopped, and the lights went off. When a spotlight came on, casting a cone of light on the stage, everyone turned their gazes there, and so did all the heroes. Seeing who stepped into it, their eyes went wide. It was the club's owner and Inferno's leader, the Cyberpunk.

"OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!"

Seeing him in that suit almost caused Merry to swoon, and Beatrice had to pinch her so she wouldn't overreact. The red-haired gang boss gave a short speech, mentioning the incident that happened a while back and joking about how people keep putting bounties on his head.

He assured everyone that he had upped the security and put countermeasures in place so the same disaster wouldn't happen again. Normally, people would be skeptical, but not this time. Apparently, Inferno had handled the situation well last time, so there were no civilian fatalities, and those who got injured were compensated quite well.

The speech ended, and the party resumed. Everyone went back to having their merry time, everyone except Merry herself. She couldn't take her eyes off the red-haired youth, and soon enough, their eyes locked. Her hand shot up, and she waved at him without a thought, only realizing it a couple of seconds later. Just as her face began to heat up, the redhead came down from the stage.

The crowd parted, making way for him as he passed. Merry remained frozen IN place as he reached her, and as they stood face to face, she felt the need to say something. The red-haired youth beat her to it, however, and the smile he wore as he spoke drove an arrow straight through her heart.

"Hey, Sunshine," He said. "You don't know how happy I am to see you."
