Chapter 109: The Second Chance
Chapter 109: The Second Chance
The world under my feet twisted violently, as if somebody had grabbed me by the ankles and dragged me to hell and back.
Everything spun for a long time. My head was dizzy, and I could not open my eyes in the slightest. Then, suddenly, I heard something oddly... familiar.
"You idiot brat! What are you standing around for? Help the imps reinforce the outer walls! We don’t have time to sleep on our duties!"
It was the same roar I first heard when I arrived in this world. A devil stood next to me, his rough voice clawing at my ears. If I remembered well, his name was Drexar...
Why am I alive? And why am I back to where I started?
I froze for a second.
"Trash! I’m talking to you!"
I felt the wind rush toward me as a shadow fell over my body. A large palm tried to crush me, but I simply pushed my hand forward, blocking the attack with... ease?
"My strength is still here..." I muttered.
Immediately, I opened the system and ran through my stats.
[Unavailable... User stats have been set to {True Evolution} for this life.]
True? What does that even mean?
I was still not feeling well. The world before my eyes was spinning like a carousel.
"How dare you—?"
His rough voice rose an octave as he felt my terrifying strength. It felt exactly the same as before I died.
Exactly the same.
Therefore...
I flicked my fingers, and a crimson [Surgeon’s Scalpel] cut through the thick devil’s arm, making it drop to the ground with a heavy thud.
Drexar’s scream tore through the air, but I barely paid attention to him. My eyes had already shifted toward the outer wall, where the same pressure from my first life began to gather.
Then, just like before...
KABOOM!
I watched the wall explode just like it had at the start of the novel. Stone burst outward, dust swallowed the air, and the same cursed scene unfolded before my eyes all over again.
This is where I’m destined to die.
But if I am here, wouldn’t Hera also have transmigrated and started over?
Then why is she still following the script?
I walked closer to the walls while panic spread through the castle. Lesser demons rushed into hiding, screeching as they tripped over each other, while the larger demons roared and charged toward the attackers.
A green flower bloomed in my hands, its eerie light spreading from my fingers as thin frost petals unfolded one by one, freezing everybody in place.
If Hera was also here, then she would know what the flower meant.
I received countless confused and startled looks. But of course, Beatrice was supposed to be a weak, good-for-nothing vampire. I had been like that too when I first started.
But if this novel allows me to start over again with all the powers I managed to gain in my last life, then don’t call me shameless if I use them to gain an early advantage.
It took Hera an hour last time to clear out all of the demons.
I wonder... how long will it take me to clear out her annoying party?
I leaned against the broken wall, feeling the sharp stone brush against my palm.
"Beelzebub..." I called out expectantly.
A small shadow shot out from my fingers, condensing into blood. Soon, a little hamster manifested into existence, its fur a beautiful chestnut brown.
"You’re still with me. Good." I smiled.
"Kweee!"
The small bastard squealed, flying around in pure amazement. I could see it in his eyes. Even he didn’t understand what was happening, but seeing me had brought him enough joy to go wild. He flew all over the castle like an arrow set free from a bowstring.
I shook my head and jumped out from the castle, landing on the solid ground in the backyard. The sky was red as fresh blood, and the moon spilled a gentle crimson light over my pale skin.
I breathed in deeply, taking in the smell of fresh blood carried by the wind from far away, where three beautiful young women were slaughtering demons.
My eyes locked on Hera.
Her expression was dark and full of hatred. She did not look like the transmigrator I had met before. There was no hesitation in her eyes this time, no strange restraint, no hidden familiarity.
Only hatred.
Unless she was putting on an act.
A green halo of frost manifested behind me as I extended my hand forward. The flower in my palm opened wider, releasing a cold green glow before countless ice arrows shot out, raining down over the heroine’s party.
They raised their weapons against my attack, clearly taken by surprise. Hera’s blade cut through the ice rain in a wave of golden light, shattering hundreds of arrows in an instant. Sofia did not hold back either. With her hand extended toward the sky, a veil of water wrapped around them all.
My green ice arrows fell on them, crashing against the veil and shaking it violently until I could see blood threading down from the corner of Sofia’s lips.
It drew a smirk from me.
It felt good watching them suffer.
I flapped my wings, rushing out with Beelzebub following right after me, curiously taking in the surroundings he had never gotten to witness before.
"Filthy vampire! Name yourself!" Hera roared in a rough voice that did not suit how she looked the first time I met her.
Is that not her?
I wondered. She represented the canon Hera from the book more, the one who hated demons to the core and would not spare them even a glance of mercy. Back then, I had felt suspicious because Hera did not chase me hard enough to make sure I died.
"You’re not qualified to know my name, cute little heroine." I giggled with my surgeon’s scalpel pressed to my lips.
She’s not the transmigrator... haha... so... where is she?
I laughed inside.
"Let me show you what hell feels like. Today... none of you are leaving my castle without treating me to a romantic death dinner, understood?"
I felt something snap in me. I was happy. Far too happy. More than anything, I wanted to kill, to drink, to tear open this second chance before the world could take it from me again.
