Chapter 149 - 148: Li Cheng is Missing

Chapter 149 - 148: Li Cheng is Missing

Li Jain went into the ruins of his house and cleared out the stones where the formation of the secret realm was located.

With slow and careful movements, he brushed away the dust and moved the stones aside. Soon, the line of the formation appeared, although it was a little faded. He placed two fingers on one of the lines and closed his eyes.

with the flow of energy from his finger’s tips into the ground, he followed each line. The formation slowly revealed itself in his mind, it was reading a map.

He saw a few points where the formation was damaged and paused. When he sent Li Cheng into the secret realm two days ago, the formation was still intact. Li Jain frowned, he had a feeling that something went wrong.

When he finally opened his eyes, the whole formation was clear in his mind. Li Jain stood up and walked three steps to the left. With a small motion, he pressed his hand into the ground and marked the core. There’s where the heart is located.

Every formation had a heart, the place where all the energy gathered. Without it, the formation was just empty lines.

He took out a flat disk from his storage ring. It was made of a pale metal with a smooth surface. This was a blank array plate. He sat down crossed legged and placed the plate in front of him. Then, using a carving tool, he began to draw line by line.

Each stroke was precise. Following his memory, he followed his memory, he drew quickly. He repaired the damage section of the formation.

After the plate was completed, he transferred the core. Once everything was set, he took a deep breath and activated it.

A bright light erupted from the plate, enveloping Li Jain. The next moment, he disappeared from where he was into the secret realm.

As for the formation lines on the ground, they were useless, more like scribbles.

As soon as Li Jain entered the secret realm, the law there forcefully suppressed his cultivation to the first level of Spiritual Sea.

Even with his cultivation reduced, Li Jain still deals with those monsters with ease.

There was no sign of other life in the realm. Li Jain frowned. It seems like his little Cheng was missing.

He scanned the endless space around him. Thinking about those strangers that were in the realm, Li Jain thought maybe they mistook Li Cheng for one of their own and took him away.

If that’s the case, he would have to go to the other side. Finding the exit wasn’t hard, there were signs purposely leading him towards it.

Li Jain knew they were luring him out, but he still followed the trail. The unseen forces were almost palpable.

With each step, Li Jain felt his instincts sharpen. He knew he was close to the exit, traces of unfamiliar energy were targeting his consciousness. He mentally prepared himself for confrontation.

Sure enough, he saw another formation similar to the one he took with him. Before entering the formation circle, he sent a quick sound transmission to Liu Xiong to check with him.

"What is it? Do you miss me already?" Liu Xiong said as soon as he accepted the connection.

Li Jain narrowed his eyes, feeling amused: "Listen, I found a formation leading out of the secret realm. The entrance has been blocked, and Xiao Cheng is missing."

Liu Xiong’s tone immediately turned serious: "Well, everything was normal when we left. Is the entry formation damaged?"

"There were some damages, but I repaired them. I think someone is involved from the other side. It’s my fault for not taking action sooner." Li Jain said with a sigh.

"If you’re intent on going to the other side, you should be cautious. I’m sure it wasn’t a coincidence that he was taken away. They might have captured him to lure you over."

"I’m well aware of the risk. It’s just that sure when I’ll be back. If I’m back by midnight, that’ll be good. Otherwise, I’ll have to trouble you, to take care of the children and take them to school for the next few days."

"Understood," Liu Xiong replied, and then hesitated: "Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?"

"I’m capable of handling it alone." Li Jain replied

Liu Xiong sighed: "Just be careful, Jain. You know how tricky these situations can get. If you back up, don’t hesitate to reach out."

Li Jain: "I will keep that in mind. Take care, don’t forget to look after my precious buns. They might act all grown up, but they still need directions."

Liu Xiong: "Don’t worry, they are in capable hands."

The two chatted for a while. After the connection was cut off, Li Jain took a deep breath. Time was of the essence, and he had to act quickly. He stepped onto the formation circle, the intricate lines shone with energy beneath him.

Li Jain had a guess that the other side of the formation was in another country, continent which would make the situation even trickier. As for their reason for taking Li Cheng, he can already guess it.

They have been using the secret realm without permission which could’ve upset the other party.

After a few minutes, Li Jain found himself in front of a gate. The gate was the entrance of the secret realm. But just as he tried to get back in, there was resistance and he couldn’t enter. This confirmed his guess even more.

There were two guards ahead, when they saw Li Jain come out of the gate, they were shocked and whispered to each other. Soon after, one of the guards left and the other one hid himself.

Li Jain frowned as he scanned his surroundings. The area he was in has small bushes around it but it was not a forest. He also saw interactions between the two guards, but he didn’t care.

Li Jain took out the soul compass and activated it to trace his soul makes that he placed on his children. He selected Li Cheng’s mark, but the arrow in the compass only spins around and doesn’t point in a specific direction.

Li Jain frown deepens. The compass’s erratic behavior makes his uneasiness increase. Why would they go to such an extent as putting a restriction on his child to block his search?!

He decided to ask the guard from before, but as soon as he took a few steps forward, a blade was placed in front of him.

"State your purpose." The guard said, blocking his path.

Li Jain narrowed his eyes, assessing the situation: "I’m not here to cause trouble. I came looking for someone."

"The secret was closed two days ago and all the students have returned to their Academy. You don’t look like you came from this region, you must be a trespasser." The guard said with a frown.

"My child was among those students, I’m here to take him back."

The guard snorted: "And why should I believe a trespasser? You could be lying to mask whatever ulterior motive you have."

Li Jain knew that the guard was deliberately making things difficult for him. From the way the guard was acting, Li Jain was sure that he knew about Li Cheng’s situation. Not wanting to waste time with the guard, he took out five handfuls of high-grade spirit stones from his storage ring and handed them to the guard.

The guard’s eyes widened and he withdrew his blade.

"Can you direct me to the Academy?" Li Jain asked

Although the guard knew a random kid came back with the others, he didn’t know much of the situation.

"There were four Academies that entered the secret realm this time. You would want to check all of them." The guard said and began listing the schools.
