Chapter 355: Reentering the Void
Gu Fan said helplessly,
"Looks like we’ll have to retreat for now..."
Just as he finished speaking, Gu Fan sensed another tremor from behind. This time, it was especially distinct—even Fang Xue sensed it.
The two of them turned pale, realizing that more Fire Demons were likely coming from behind as well.
Sweeping his divine sense, Gu Fan revealed a bitter smile:
"Another eight Fire Demons are approaching from the rear. With the three here already holding us up, looks like we’re not getting away..."
Fang Xue hadn't expected things to escalate to this point. Feeling a bit guilty, she said,
"This is my fault for being too full of myself. Otherwise, we would have already left."
Gu Fan shook his head.
"Most of the Fire Yuan Crystals went to me. If we’re talking about blame, it’s because I was too greedy. There’s no point in discussing this now..."
As he spoke, Gu Fan looked at Fang Xue and said,
"I have a plan. I can't guarantee it’ll work, but it offers more hope than staying here and getting beaten to death."
Upon hearing this, Fang Xue didn’t hesitate and nodded immediately.
"I’m in. Facing this many Fire Demons here is certain death. If there's hope, it's worth trying!"
Seeing Fang Xue so determined, Gu Fan no longer hesitated and said,
"The two Fire Demons behind still need some time to get here. Help me hold off the three in front. I’ll handle the rest!"
"Got it!"
With that, Fang Xue swiftly floated into the air. All nine of her Cold Apertures erupted simultaneously with a dazzling light.
Her domain exploded at full force. Above her head, an extremely frigid bubble was being formed.
"Ultimate Cold! Freeze Thirty Thousand Li!"
Pop!
A light cracking sound echoed. The next instant, the bubble burst, releasing a chill that seemed capable of freezing even the soul.
Whoosh!
In just a blink, the three charging Fire Demons had their steps frozen mid-motion.
The flames on their bodies were also compressed to the minimum—nearly extinguished.
At the same time, the black sphere in Gu Fan’s hand was being slowly infused with Mysterious Power and Spiritual Energy.
Once he’d estimated the right amount, Gu Fan halted the infusion.
"It’s ready!"
Hearing this, Fang Xue immediately retreated. Gu Fan then threw the black sphere from his hand.
Its terrifying power instantly annihilated the three Fire Demons. Simultaneously, space began to collapse, forming a rift.
Gu Fan immediately grabbed Fang Xue’s hand and waved his other hand, unleashing a strike imbued with the Power of Space.
"Spatial Slash!"
The originally collapsing space was instantly sliced into a smooth and flat opening.
The two of them darted into it, disappearing from the secret realm.
Moments later, the spatial rift began to slowly mend itself.
Inside the void, Gu Fan held Fang Xue in his arms. Though the position was somewhat intimate, Fang Xue couldn’t afford to worry about that.
Gu Fan’s physical body was strong enough to barely withstand the turbulent currents of the void.
If not for that, she could’ve been killed by the chaotic flow at any moment.
"What now? There are no coordinates in the void. How do we get back?"
Only now did Fang Xue finally have the chance to ask about the plan.
Gu Fan paused for a moment and adjusted their position while holding Fang Xue. The movement inevitably caused some contact with sensitive areas.
This made Fang Xue a little embarrassed, a faint blush appearing on her face.
"Now it’s all up to luck. But I’ve made some preparations."
With a wave of his hand, Gu Fan released a group of Void Fish from his storage pouch.
He then used Soul Power as threads to tether them.
"What are those?"
"Void Fish. A rare species I caught inside the Rift Zone. Thanks to them, I was able to return to Destiny Continent from there."
Upon hearing this, Fang Xue’s confidence was somewhat restored.
"No wonder. So you dared to enter the void because of these Void Fish?"
"That's right, but it’s still quite risky."
Gu Fan then directed the Void Fish to search for an exit. It wasn’t his first time doing this; he had already done it twice before.
"These Void Fish can’t communicate or be directly controlled. Their destination—and the exit they lead us to—is completely random."
"To put it simply, we have no control. We could end up anywhere. Senior Sister, you’d best be mentally prepared."
Hearing Gu Fan’s voice from above her head, Fang Xue could only nod obediently.
No wonder Gu Fan hadn’t wanted to use this method unless absolutely necessary.
It was simply too unpredictable.
"This is already much better than dying inside the secret realm."
Gu Fan nodded in agreement.
Thus, the group of Void Fish swam through the void ahead, seemingly attuned to the environment. Each time, they effortlessly avoided chaotic void currents.
Behind them, Gu Fan held Fang Xue tightly and followed closely.
Time passed unknowingly. The two of them had no idea how far they had gone or how far from their original position they were.
Finally, within a section of the void, the group of Void Fish became slightly agitated!
Because of the Soul Connection to the fish, Gu Fan immediately noticed the change.
Bringing Fang Xue forward, he saw—just up ahead—a spatial passage had formed at some unknown time, now spanning across their path.
This spatial passage appeared to be wrapped in a transparent membrane, and its many ancient traces clearly marked it as man-made, not naturally occurring.
"This passage was likely created by a mighty expert using terrifying methods. The residual energy has persisted until now. Though who knows how many ages it has withstood, it’s still maintaining the passage's structure."
Fang Xue gazed at the passage and calmly gave her analysis.
Gu Fan nodded.
"Indeed terrifying. Judging by this aura, it’s been here for at least ten thousand years."
"So should we go around it, or try to enter and follow it out?"
Fang Xue asked.
But Gu Fan suddenly felt a faint sense of unease in his heart, prompting him to speak cautiously:
"Let’s wait a bit longer. Something feels off."
Hearing this, Fang Xue didn’t push further. The two of them waited in the void.
Less than the time it takes to burn an incense stick later, a cluster of radiance appeared on the other side of the passage. From far to near, they slowly floated past the two.
Gu Fan’s heart stirred slightly. He could sense life within the glowing orbs—and counted twelve of them.
Then, the orbs inside the passage seemed to notice something watching from the outside and turned their gaze toward the two.
Gu Fan immediately enveloped both himself and Fang Xue with his divine sense to conceal their presence.
Moments later, the glowing orbs seemed to give up on their search and continued onward in another direction.
Only then did Gu Fan and Fang Xue breathe a sigh of relief.
"Just now... what were those things?"
Fang Xue asked.
Gu Fan shook his head, uncertain.
"I don’t know either, but I could feel life forms inside them. They were extremely perceptive—almost discovered us."
Hearing this, Fang Xue fell silent. Life forms appearing inside an ancient spatial passage—where had they come from, and where were they headed?
She chose not to delve deeper into it.
At that moment, Gu Fan seemed to come to a decision.
"Let’s go. We’ll go around this passage!"
With that, he released the Void Fish again and resumed their journey.
