Chapter 554: The Mechanical Cult’s Second General Assault
Chapter 554: The Mechanical Cult’s Second General Assault
Lynn let out a sigh, rubbed her little ears, and could only accept the fact that he now had another little loli by his side. Still, it wasn’t too bad—at least when he had nothing to do, he could pet her and relax a bit. She wasn’t entirely useless.
But the one truly infuriating thing was the cat-like speech that came with her when she talked.
He was supposed to be a tough guy, but talking with a “meow” sound tacked onto everything always gave people a very awkward feeling!
“Alright, alright, stop being clingy.”
Lynn hugged Miaomiao, who was squirming in his arms and trying to lick him, and forcefully stroked her cat ears back. He shook his head and said:
“Don’t keep Sir Aiwen waiting too long. We’re in the middle of a war. If you want to exchange feelings, we can talk about it when we get back, got it, meow?”
“I’ll listen to Master, meow~.”
Lynn sighed helplessly, holding the sticky, clingy Miaomiao as he prepared to head out.
But just as he pushed open the door and was about to leave, Lynn immediately felt that someone was missing.
Where was Alice? He instinctively turned his head to look around the room, and then froze on the spot.
There, in the room, Alice stood all alone in her white dress, her little fists clenched, her gaze dark and brooding as she stared fixedly at the cat-eared girl in Lynn’s arms. A thick, sour aura radiated from her entire being.
“Alice, what’s wrong?”
Upon hearing Lynn’s words, Alice, for the first time ever, did not obediently respond.
Instead, she forcefully twisted her face away and looked off to the side.
“……”
Lynn:“……”
There was no doubt—if Lynn couldn’t figure out what was going on after seeing this scene, he might as well not be alive.
She was jealous as hell.
Even though she hadn’t said a single word.
The scent of lemon could be smelled from miles away…
But Alice, why are you getting jealous over a cat? There’s no need for that!
Lynn sighed helplessly, walked back, and stretched out his other arm to scoop up the light, airy Alice as well. One on each side, keeping the balance even.
“Is this okay now, meow?”
Alice said nothing. Instead, she wrapped her arms tightly around Lynn’s neck, darkly claiming the best spot for herself as if to assert ownership. She even stretched out one little foot to push the cat-eared girl on the other side away.
Lemon-ing.
Lynn:“……”
Lynn knew that for the foreseeable future, his days were probably not going to be easy.
……
A dozen minutes later.
Outside the stronghold, Lynn finally arrived at the rendezvous point where he was supposed to meet Sir Aiwen.
“Sir Aiwen, sorry to keep you waiting!”
Lynn, wearing his Plague Doctor mask and carrying two little lolis—one on each side—came running up, panting heavily.
Sir Aiwen glanced at the Miaomiao and Alice in his arms, a slight smile curling at the corner of his mouth as he tucked his pocket watch back into his coat pocket. “Right on time. But are you sure you want to bring so many girls to the Cursed City? You’ve got a few too many accessories hanging off you.”
Hearing Sir Aiwen’s teasing, Lynn could only feel utterly helpless.
But what could he do?
He couldn’t just leave them all behind, could he?
After all, each one was a precious piece of his heart, and if he set even one down, she would immediately go ballistic. He had absolutely no way around it!
Seeing Lynn’s helplessness, Sir Aiwen smiled faintly and said, “Still, it’s not bad. With so many accessories, even if I’m not around, your safety should be well guaranteed. Enough small talk—let’s get ready to head out.”
Lynn quickly followed, looking at Sir Aiwen’s profile with curiosity. “Sir, is it just the few of us? What about the other comrades?”
Sir Aiwen walked forward, leaning on his cane and pressing down on his top hat. “They all have their own tasks and have already set out ahead of us. For now, just stick close to me. We have something more important to do.”
And then, in the next moment.
*Snap*—
A single finger snap.
The space around them twisted once again.
When Lynn opened his eyes again, they were already standing on the rooftop of a ruined high-rise building inside the Cursed City.
A fierce wind howled past, carrying the distinct smell of blood in the air.
And Lynn immediately spotted the massive Flesh and Blood Colossal Tree at the very center of the Cursed City. The silvery Colossus’s Tower had been completely engulfed, and the branches of the Desire Mother Tree were visibly even larger than before.
Sir Aiwen stood at the edge of the rooftop like an elegant gentleman, gazing at the center. He looked up and said, “I conducted a thorough reconnaissance. Just as you speculated, the Mechanical Cult has no intention of withdrawing their forces. Instead, they’ve been continuously fold-jumping in more mechanical troops over this period.”
He glanced at his pocket watch.
“I hacked into their Hive. Judging by the time, it should be about right. The Mechanical Cult will soon launch their second large-scale assault on the Flesh and Blood Cult.”
Lynn quickly stepped forward, staring warily into the distance. “So what’s our mission?”
Sir Aiwen looked up and said, “Of course, it’s to confirm the thing we care about most—to see if those Plague Doctors will use that new type of plague against the Mechanical Cult during this battle.”
“And if they do?”
Sir Aiwen removed one glove and said slowly, “Then we step in as a third-party force and drive them to their deaths.”
He said the most domineering words in the most peaceful tone.
Standing atop this tallest building, Lynn even felt as though the entire city was under his control.
Indeed.
Having a big shot by your side really did make even you feel domineering.
And then, in the very next moment, Sir Aiwen raised his head and said, “They’re here.”
*Hummm*—
Almost as soon as he finished speaking, Lynn suddenly felt a change in the air pressure above the city. A massive rumbling, as if from the depths of space, echoed loudly across the entire city sky.
From far to near.
Even the black mist in the sky churned violently, and the space itself hummed and vibrated.
Then, in the next instant.
The sky above their heads seemed to cave in. The thick black mist was torn apart and pushed aside, and a Black Inverted Pyramid so vast that its end could not be seen emerged rumbling from within the black mist.
Lynn’s head shot up.
“The Hive!”
What a shock that was—the massive shadow covered nearly half the city, as if the apocalypse had arrived!
And not just one!
Under Lynn’s gaze, the sky on two other sides of the Cursed City similarly collapsed, and two more identical Black Inverted Pyramids emerged rumbling from the mist.
Three Hives!
Even Lynn was left breathless by the sheer intimidation of this sight.
These colossal constructs were carriers of Mechanical Consciousness, and as he had seen before, they served as mother nests with no small amount of combat power. He had indeed considered that the Mechanical Cult would reinforce their forces, but he had never imagined that they would summon three Hives at once.
In the sky, accompanied by the descent of the three massive inverted pyramids.
The entire city was shrouded in a terrifying, oppressive atmosphere.
And Lynn quickly noticed that, alongside the three inverted pyramids, there were also countless mechanical warships and machines swarming around the Black Pyramids, as well as…
“Nano-clusters!”
Lynn’s gaze turned serious as he stared fixedly at the dust clouds suddenly stirring around one of the Hives.
That’s right.
It was definitely the nano-clusters!
And they had already reached a certain scale, even visible to the naked eye on a macroscopic level as a massive nano-storm.
There was no doubt.
Clearly spurred by what he had done before, the Mechanical Cult was truly preparing to send out all their forces this time, wiping out the Flesh and Blood Cult’s presence here once and for all!
And if nothing unexpected happened, this battle was bound to become the largest-scale war ever witnessed in the entire Dark World.
