Chapter 513: A Simple Way to Give Brain Some Fighting Spirit

Chapter 513: A Simple Way to Give Brain Some Fighting Spirit

About ten minutes later.

White Night, still wearing a mask, held the medical file and watched, embarrassed, as several Night Doctors tremulously wrapped bandages around Lynn, whose face had been mangled into a pork-like mess by that left hand.

He then turned his head and stared at the left hand, which was sprawled on Lynn's Brain, clutching a strand of his hair and refusing to let go, eyes wide and pleading.

He took a deep breath, rubbed his forehead, and said:

“Although I know your left hand seems to have its own consciousness, and I understand how anxious you are to wake your Master when you first regained consciousness, but…”

“Using poking the eyes or pouring pesticide as a method of waking someone up is not something we endorse.”

He then pointed to the small, battered vent on the wall and sighed:

“Also, we appreciate your good intention to try and help Lynn escape, but that vent is so small it probably can't fit a person through it.”

Obviously.

A lot of bad things had already happened by the time they rushed in after hearing sounds. For example, after one hand crawled out through the vent, it tried from the outside to drag Lynn out as if pulling him along, so when they arrived, one of Lynn's heads had already been half forced out.

Zuo Zuo blinked and asked, “Is his Brain badly injured?”

White Night nodded, “It wasn't bad at first, but now it looks serious.”

“……”

“But something's wrong!” Zuo Zuo straightened up, pointed a finger at Lynn, who lay listless and utterly devoid of fighting spirit, and glared:

“Brain seems completely wrecked. Zuo Zuo talks to him and he won't even bother replying. If I used to poke his nostril, he'd always snap at me immediately!”

“But now…”

Zuo Zuo poked Lynn's apathetic Brain.

Lynn: (no response)

“Like it's broken.”

White Night closed the file, shook his head, and coughed, “We detected seven curses within his consciousness. One is ancient and suppressed, but the other six are still continuously affecting his mind. At present… there's nothing we can do.”

“Fortunately, though, the potency of those curses is weakening. It doesn't look like a permanent curse—likely they'll dissipate on their own after some time.”

“And based on our observation and understanding over these two hours…”

He pondered, glanced again at the medical file, and said:

“Those six curses affect each other, but each has its own peak period. Not long ago he went through a stretch of madness and loud laughter. According to the pattern, the one now dominating should be the curse that causes someone to lose their fighting spirit.”

Zuo Zuo exclaimed, “Lose their fighting spirit?!”

White Night nodded, closing his eyes, “Yes. It turns someone into a lazy nothing who doesn't bother doing anything.”

Zuo Zuo stared blankly and turned to look at Lynn, lying there with zero drive.

She immediately remembered the few books Stupid Brain had borrowed from Quill as hidden trump cards.

One of them was titled The Book That Makes You Lose Your Fighting Spirit…

Could it be…

Stupid Brain, in order to fight that God of All Machines, even cursed himself?!

“Right!” Zuo Zuo suddenly recalled something, a lightbulb moment, and said excitedly:

“My Brain has a knack for temporarily dispelling curses! If only Brain used it on himself, he'd return to normal! This is obviously a very simple fix!”

White Night was taken aback, then helplessly amused.

“We tried. It doesn't work.”

Zuo Zuo was stunned, “Impossible. Brain's ability can even weaken your Matriarch's curse. How could it fail…”

White Night shook his head and sighed, “It's not that the ability doesn't work, it's that…”

“He's too lazy to use it.”

“……”

Silence fell.

Zuo Zuo looked at Lynn, snoring like a salted fish, eyes wide in shock. Had the curse really reached this level of severity?

“Is he awake or asleep now?”

“Dozing off and on. There's also a 'drowsy' curse affecting him.”

“So he can hear us if we speak?”

“Uh… probably, but he's too lazy to respond.”

“What if I kill him now? Like stab him.”

“Too lazy to react.”

“Then if some guys did mean things to him, he still wouldn't respond?”

“Uh… I don't think he'd react… probably?”

White Night sweated. He wondered if Zuo Zuo had been with Lynn too long, otherwise how would she come up with such depraved options most people wouldn't try.

Zuo Zuo pondered thoughtfully.

She glanced at Lynn, sleeping like a lump.

Then she thought for a moment.

She felt she had to do something.

As if deciding on a course of action, her gaze landed on Lynn's neatly folded clothes and small trunk nearby.

“Mm—”

She stared intently, then bit off the little lock on top and crawled in. Under White Night's puzzled gaze, she carefully fumbled around inside.

A moment later.

“Found it!”

Zuo Zuo's clear voice rang from inside the trunk.

Then the crisp clinking of coins spilled out.

“Brain's little vault!”

Instantly.

The sound of Lynn's snoring cut off.

Under White Night's astonished stare, Zuo Zuo squinted, dragged out a large money pouch from the trunk, and shook it gently. The clink of Black Skull Coins echoed from within.

She then grabbed Lynn's Plague Doctor Mask and shook it hard.

Two shiny metal coins fell out.

Then clothes, belt, shoes, shorts—Zuo Zuo procedurally tossed out a pile of coins.

White Night: “(shocked) This…”

Zuo Zuo picked up a shining coin and said seriously, “Stupid Brain has a nasty habit of hiding money. He usually sneaks up while Zuo Zuo is asleep to stash away winter savings. Under the second floorboard by the bed in their Nightfall City place there are at least two thousand coins, and the potion shop bedroom on Wandering Souls Alley has a lot more. He even hid a few nasty little porn books.”

“He thinks Zuo Zuo doesn't know, but I know perfectly well.”

“For a Brain who's filthy rich yet miserly, touching his money is to risk his life.”

Lynn lay stiffly.

White Night stood there astonished, watching the left hand noisily pile all the Black Skull Coins together.

“So…”

He swallowed instinctively, sensing that something bad might happen.

Zuo Zuo pinched a coin and said seriously:

“So the best way to make Brain regain his fighting spirit is to spend his money, especially on pointless things. That really pisses him off. I've tested it.”

“For example…” White Night was stupefied.

Click—

Zuo Zuo flicked the Black Skull Coin with one finger.

The coin flipped in midair, reflecting avaricious glints.

White Night looked up in shock.

Lynn trembled, summoning every ounce of strength to slowly turn his head.

His gaze followed that glittering coin.

And then.

“Awoo!”
