Chapter 443: We Have Only Won Twice!
Chapter 443: We Have Only Won Twice!
Mechanical Nano-Storm!
Almost the instant those six words appeared in the System's prompt, Lynn realized something was terribly wrong.
He had finally found the source of that sense of crisis!
"Run!"
At this moment, Lynn roared, showing almost no hesitation as he whirled around and instantly sprinted back the way he came at an unimaginable speed.
Behind him, a dense buzzing sound abruptly erupted.
Slight ripples appeared in the air, as if something invisible was sweeping towards his direction with frantic intensity.
It was like a sinister gust of wind!
And wherever that gust passed, the Flesh Walls on both sides decomposed and vanished at a rate visible to the naked eye.
"What is that?"The voice of Miss Puppet sounded in his ear.
She sensed the danger, but even though she could clearly see the withering of the surrounding walls, she still couldn't detect any presence or fluctuation!
"It's the Mechanical Units' Nano-Storm!"
Lynn gritted his teeth, pushing his speed to the absolute limit.
But he had no time left to explain to Miss Puppet!
Truth be told, he didn't know much about this kind of Mechanical Cult swarm either; he had only heard a little about it from White Night's mouth during their last encounter together.
Lynn only knew it was a type of microscopic-level machinery, a top-tier weapon of mass destruction researched and developed by the Mechanical Cult specifically for the extinction of flesh organisms!
Even though he had never seen it with his own eyes.
As a transmigrator from Earth, he didn't need to think to understand the destructive power of a concept like nanomachines!
No wonder the System directly issued him a "Survive" type of mission!
This was fucking aimed at him?!
The next moment.
Gritting his teeth, Lynn charged violently through a "T"-shaped corner.
But in that very instant, he immediately saw that in the corridor ahead of the corner, the lighting sources were flickering and extinguishing *pop pop pop* one after another. An immense darkness, like a surging beast, was silently spreading towards his direction.
His heart immediately sank.
Lynn sharply turned his head, looking towards another direction behind him.
And in that direction, deep within the corridor, the Flesh Walls on the left and right sides were also beginning to peel and decompose at an unimaginable speed.
Enemies on three sides!
At this moment, Lynn instead calmed down.
Because he knew that in a situation like this, impulsiveness and fear offered no help for survival.
The Mechanical Cult was clearly targeting him this time.
"Let's go!"
Lynn abruptly looked up, fastened his Plague Doctor Mask, quickly activated the Ghost Mode attached to the equipment, then leapt up, instantly passing through the Flesh Wall overhead and reappearing on the second level of the Aberration Fortress.
Without any hesitation, he performed a sharp roll, his expression composed as he swiftly sprinted towards another direction of the Aberration Fortress.
He knew Miss Puppet was by his side.
But in this situation, even Miss Puppet probably couldn't guarantee his safety.
But what the hell was going on!
Wasn't this supposed to be the underground Root Network of the Desire Mother Tree?!
Why was their Aberration Fortress encountering the Mechanical Units' nano-swarm here!
And just as he was racing along the corridor, a familiar voice suddenly rang out in his mind.
"Doctor! I am Commander Gauss, I am currently controlling the Aberration Fortress with all my might! We've encountered a situation! The Mechanical Cult's nano-swarm has invaded the Mother Goddess's Root Network, they are right behind us now, countless nano-swarms are in pursuit!"
"I already know!"
Lynn said with a grim face, sprinting swiftly.
He knew the Commander must be watching him now; after linking with the Aberration Fortress, this entire fortress was practically his body, and presumably he was already aware of the danger Lynn currently faced.
"Apologies! Doctor, part of the Mechanical Nano-Swarm has already infiltrated the fortress interior. If we let them develop unchecked, I'm afraid it won't be long before the entire Aberration Fortress becomes their breeding ground! By that time, we'll probably all die here!"
That voice grew increasingly urgent.
"I've barely managed to observe their movements through the fortress's damage assessment! Right now, on the level directly below your feet, three streams of nano-swarm are pursuing you! Abnormal wear has also been detected directly behind and directly ahead of you!"
He could only use this method to warn Lynn.
On the three-dimensional map of the Aberration Fortress in his mind, the light point representing Lynn was moving rapidly.
But directly below him, the flood marked to represent the Mechanical Nano-Swarm was also swiftly closing in, getting closer and closer!
"I know."
Lynn said calmly as he sprinted:
"Do you have any way to deal with them?!"
The Commander's urgent voice soon echoed in his mind.
"I'm afraid not! In the current records of our Desire Sect, almost every battle that encountered a Nano-Storm ended with our complete annihilation!"
"In fact, over the past few hundred years, we have only had a mere two cases of victory."
"The first was when our Mother Goddess personally intervened. The second was when we received help from the Dark Zerg race, barely repelling the Nano-Storm invasion by utilizing their microscopic swarms."
"But in the current situation, we simply have no ability to protect ourselves!"
He tried hard to maintain the composure a Commander should have, but his hurried voice still inevitably revealed waves of despair.
Because he knew.
The moment the nano-swarm was discovered within the Aberration Fortress, it had essentially announced their slow death.
Because even a powerful war machine like the [Aberrant Whale] appeared so helpless in the face of this microscopic-level attack!
"Stay calm."
Lynn pressed down on his top hat as he sprinted, narrowing his eyes:
"We're not dead yet. Talk about despair when we're actually dead. As long as we're still alive, there's still a chance."
"And since they are machines, your anti-mechanical measures should be able to weaken them to some extent, even if they can't eliminate them, right?"
The Commander's anxious voice came through.
"I don't know. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, because we simply have no means to directly monitor them! And the Nano-Storm outside has already formed a certain scale, even if…"
Before he could finish, Lynn cut him off.
"I know."
Lynn said very calmly:
"Right now, immediately use all your anti-mechanical measures, open fire with everything you have on the nano-swarm outside the fortress! Don't aim for annihilation, just aim to delay. Every second we can stall is another sliver of a survival chance."
"As for the swarm inside the fortress, leave it to me."
The Commander was startled.
"You have a way?"
"Maybe."
He wanted to say more, but upon hearing the calmness in Lynn's words, the despair in his heart was momentarily suppressed by a few degrees.
Could it be that the Doctor really had a way to deal with the invading nano-swarm?!
His mind once again recalled the scene from before when Lynn appeared, that single gesture which forced back the Mechanical Cult's large-scale bombardment.
"Alright!"
Gritting his teeth, he immediately began to act according to Lynn's suggestion.
Because at a time like this, he could only go all in.
In an instant, following his command, countless ferocious human faces instantly emerged on the outer walls of the speeding Aberration Fortress. On the densely packed tentacles, countless spores split open.
"Fire!!"
In that split second, countless Flesh Spores were hurled into the darkness behind the fortress. The dense human faces let out waves of Cursed Arts howls, launching an all-out assault against that darkness.
The massive explosions of the spores even created a clear sense of tremor that could be felt inside the Aberration Fortress.
