Chapter 399: Encounter, The Collision of Machine and Flesh

Chapter 399: Encounter, The Collision of Machine and Flesh

Those five mechanical spiders surrounded the two humanoid units in a pentagram formation, continuously scanning the surroundings. Lynn could even clearly see the circular screens on their heads, flickering with streams of green light.

"Flesh life detection device activated—target building retrieval scan in progress—"

"Scan complete—no anomalous fluctuations detected—"

"Switching target—second area detection initiated—"

"Warning—flesh life fluctuations detected—highest directive in effect—eliminate—"

Along with the waves of cold, mechanical voices.

Almost in that instant.

One of the mechanical spiders suddenly turned its head 180 degrees, facing the direction where Lynn and White Night were hiding. The light on its head screen immediately shifted from green to a flashing red.

Lynn's heart instantly tightened.

But White Night immediately pressed down on his wrist, his eyes flickering as he shook his head slightly. And almost in the next moment.

*Whoosh—*

A searing-hot ray suddenly erupted from the mechanical spider's gun barrel, grazing over their heads and shooting into the sky.

Accompanied by a shrill, drawn-out cry.

A deformed bird, its entire body burning, plummeted from the high altitude above the black fog and crashed heavily behind Lynn and White Night.

"Life signs zero—elimination directive deactivated—"

As the synthetic mechanical voice sounded, the red light on that mechanical spider also changed back to green. Its gun barrel deformed and retracted back into its mechanical body.

Lynn: "..."

White Night: "..."

[Ding! You have obtained Roast Meat x10]

Lynn took a bite of the roasted bird leg in his hand, handing the other one to White Night beside him, frowning as he chewed.

"Seeing it truly is different from just hearing about it. They won't even spare a carefree little bird just passing by. Their hostility towards flesh-and-blood creatures is indeed notorious. It's really too cruel."

White Night took a bite of the bird leg, his eyes flickering.

"Now you should understand, right? Because of their extremely xenophobic ideology, the Mechanical Cult is impossible to communicate with. This is basically how they treat flesh-and-blood creatures: one shot, and if you're not dead, they give you another. Flesh-and-blood creatures are already the second most despised life form to them."

"What's the first?" Lynn handed him a bottle of beer.

"The first is a mixture of flesh and machinery. That kind of hybrid is seen by them as a severe desecration of pure machinery."

White Night took a deep sip.

The two of them ate their roast meat, once again vigilantly peering through the crack in the wall at the mechanical squad on the street.

"They're close. They've already stepped into the Flesh and Blood Cult's ambush circle. It seems they haven't detected the ambushers underground."

Lynn swallowed his roast meat, saying warily,

"How many ambushers are there?"

"At least fifty, including several heavy units."

"Nearly eight times the numbers. Then isn't this mechanical squad doomed?"

White Night shook his head, his gaze deeply fixed on the direction of the street.

"No, it's not that simple. Just watch. If the Flesh and Blood Cult's ambush can achieve an effect in the first stage, blocking their link to the Main Leader, then they still have a chance of winning."

"But if not..."

On the street.

The seven mechanical units slowly continued their advance.

Under the howling wind, rolling black fog swept in wisps along the ground, stirring up clouds of dust from the street.

"Target area confirmed—security level: primary."

"Beacon launch site can be established—directive—deploy mechanical sentry towers x5, primary psychic suppression device x1—regional outpost establishment—"

Accompanied by the synthetic mechanical voice.

One of the mechanical spiders suddenly transformed. Its mechanical limbs clicked and clacked, flipping and morphing into a base supporting the ground. Its body slowly unfolded from the middle, a launcher gradually rising from within its body.

White Night narrowed his eyes. "They're about to move!"

Almost the moment White Night finished speaking, Lynn immediately saw cracks appearing one after another on the street's ground.

And simultaneously, the green light in the eyes of all the Mechanical Units on alert instantly changed to a crimson glow.

"Warning—detecting a large number of anomalous flesh fluctuations—target location—underground—"

But it was already too late.

With a loud boom, the ground beneath their feet exploded. Massive tentacles burst through the rock from underground with a *whoosh*, launching a fierce assault on them in an instant.

And Lynn also saw immediately.

Almost as those tentacles pierced up from the ground, strange creatures composed entirely of flesh cysts and two legs began to emerge from the ground in all directions.

Their bodies split open into foul-smelling, gaping maws, suddenly letting out sharp, piercing shrieks.

"Warning—information transmission severely disrupted—electron flow showing anomalous disturbance—link to Main Leader interrupted—"

"Adaptive field activated—current adaptation progress 1%...5%...10%..."

And almost simultaneously with those shrieks.

Two massive, intestine-like, writhing giant creatures suddenly emerged from the ground. Immediately after, one flesh-and-blood humanoid after another surged out from the giant "intestines" as if being birthed.

"Kill! Destroy these piles of scrap metal! End the battle within three minutes!"

Accompanied by those roars.

Those naked flesh-and-blood humanoids charged towards the mechanical squad like wild beasts.

While running, the muscles on their bodies began to writhe and shift. Some grew huge wings, some had their arms transform into sharp flesh-and-blood blades, and some developed large, undulating cysts on their jaws, opening their mouths to spew out vicious green acid.

All of this happened within a brief span of less than five seconds.

"Large number of flesh lifeforms locked—highest priority directive issued—lifeform elimination—"

Under Lynn's watchful gaze.

The mechanical squad dispersed with unimaginable reaction speed.

The firearms in the hands of the two mechanical humanoids aimed and fired almost instantly.

*Bang bang bang bang bang bang—*

Bullets propelled by high energy, precise as if with auto-aim, each one striking the heads or chests of those flesh-and-blood humanoids.

Under the baptism of bullets, the bodies of those flesh-and-blood humanoids exploded with large craters one after another.

The power of those bullets was immense; almost two hits were enough to blast a flesh-and-blood humanoid into pieces.

But terrifyingly.

Even when blasted into minced meat by the bullets, those flesh-and-blood humanoids still weren't dead. Instead, they rapidly aggregated, swiftly reconstructing their forms once again.

*Boom—*

A tremendous crash.

A massive tentacle slammed heavily onto the body of one mechanical humanoid.

Accompanied by a flash of a blue, hive-shaped shield that shattered instantly, the mechanical humanoid was sent flying dozens of meters by the tremendous force. The moment it landed, numerous flesh-and-blood serpents suddenly grew from the ground beneath it, tightly binding its mechanical body.

*Sssssss—*

From the body of the mechanical humanoid bound by those flesh-and-blood serpents came the sound of metal being melted.

"Converting to Melee Mode—plasma sword activating—eliminate—"

In an instant, the mechanical humanoid looked up.
