Chapter 684: Chapter 683: The Text Message Wasn’t Sent by Me (1)

Ling Chuxia could be utterly heartless when she steeled her heart, and he had not been without experience in that. Her indifference over those three years was etched vividly in his mind.

If Ling Chuxia really harbored only hatred and distaste for him, as she claimed, would she have brought him to the hospital because of his injury, then promptly informed Xiao Zhao, or his mother, or Ling Yunshu to take care of him? However, she wouldn’t have stayed here all night, let alone, moments before, exposing her instinctive concern.

The more Shi Che thought about it, the more he was certain that Ling Chuxia’s heart harbored feelings for him beyond mere resentment. Although this was something he had never dared to consider before, Chuxia’s behavior now forced him to think along those lines.

If Chuxia hated him that much, could love be a part of it? Wasn’t it a common saying that the deeper the love, the deeper the hate?

Love?

Did Chuxia love him?

As this thought rushed into his brain, it was as if something had plunged into Shi Che’s heart lake, causing a maelstrom. His dark pupils blazed with twin flames of eagerness as he stared at Ling Chuxia with intense heat. Even his hands involuntarily wrapped around Ling Chuxia’s slender waist, pulling her tightly against his front.

He lifted his gaze, staring at her unwaveringly, his thin lips parting, word by word he uttered, "Chuxia, you care about me... you even... love me, don’t you?"

Actually, Shi Che’s guess about love was mostly speculation, but he hadn’t expected that, upon hearing his words, Ling Chuxia reacted as if stung by a bee, snapping to attention. Her eyes widened as she blurted out to Shi Che, "I don’t love you, I could never love you!"

Her denial was so swift, as if his words had touched upon a deep, hidden secret of hers.

Shi Che’s words had been merely a probe, but he had not anticipated that it would reveal such a tremendous surprise. As Ling Chuxia opened her mouth to deny, he gazed at her flustered eyes dumbfounded; it was as if one’s own secret was being publicly unveiled, clumsily attempting to cover it.

Could it be... that Chuxia truly loved him?

Happiness came so suddenly that Shi Che was taken aback, completely at a loss for how to react. He could only subconsciously tighten his hold on the woman in front of him, watching her frantically denying, her mouth opening and closing. Shi Che, as if bewitched, leaned in closer with his handsome face and pressed his lips onto Ling Chuxia’s.

Time stood still in that moment, the world went silent.

As Shi Che’s lips met Ling Chuxia’s, her lips were as always, soft and warm. He had only intended to silence her, to stop her from continuing to speak her deceits. Yet, upon their touch, willpower seemed to escape his control. His lips parted slightly, enveloping hers, and then, he kissed her deeply.

Ling Chuxia hadn’t expected Shi Che would suddenly kiss her. Her eyes widened in shock, her mind going blank for an instant, completely stunned, until she felt Shi Che’s tongue trying to pry open her teeth, and that’s when she fiercely snapped back to reality. Her hands shoved against Shi Che’s chest, and reflexively raised to slap him.

Shi Che was pushed away by her as if he had anticipated it. Even as he saw her hand raised, he slightly tilted back his head, his dark pupils staring straight at her, motionless, with no intention of dodging.

He was gambling; she would not bring herself to slap him!
