But just as her hand touched her phone, the next second, it was empty. The phone was already in Shi Che’s hand.

Ling Chuxia’s dark eyes suddenly widened; she instinctively reached out to snatch it back, "Give me my phone back!"

Shi Che looked indifferent and ignored Ling Chuxia’s words. Holding the phone, he stood up and his thin lips slightly parted, "Sleep." As soon as he said those two words, he turned around and walked towards the room door.

Sleep? How could she possibly sleep right now?

Ling Chuxia watched his indifferent manner, her eyes involuntarily glaring hatefully at his departing figure, two sparks flaring in her lifeless eyes. Her silver teeth clenched loudly, her hand grabbed the blanket, ready to throw it off and get out of bed to chase after him and retrieve her phone.

Yet, Shi Che, as if having eyes on the back of his head, paused his step the second her hand moved to throw off the blanket. He turned his face slightly, glancing at her indifferently, his voice calm and steady, "If you really don’t want to see me, then lie down. Once your fever is gone, I will naturally leave."

He paused for a moment, Shi Che’s thin lips slightly pursed, then continued, "Otherwise, I’ll think that you can’t bear to have me go, that you want me here with you all the time."

"If that’s what you think, then go ahead and fuss all you like. After all, I have plenty of time to spend with you. Whatever you want to do is fine!"

"...!"

Ling Chuxia’s action of tossing the blanket halted, and she was stunned by Shi Che’s three sentences for about a dozen seconds before suddenly snapping back to reality. She laughed angrily and stared at Shi Che’s back, fiercely saying, "You... you’re truly shameless..."

The words "shameless" almost slipped out, but Shi Che indifferently hummed, "Hmm?" before she could speak. His voice was low, emotionless, yet it brought an unconscious oppressive feeling.

Ling Chuxia’s dark eyes thickened, the three words stuck in her throat, unable to be uttered. Her dark pupils blinked, and due to her annoyance, her cheeks took on an unusual red. Her hands clenched tightly, veins popping visibly on her fair wrists.

Now, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to be defiant to the end or that she didn’t want to kick Shi Che out, but she knew she, a woman, simply couldn’t resist Shi Che, a man—not to mention she was sick, weak, and powerless. Shi Che could restrain her with just a finger. Her struggling now was pointless and would only cause her more suffering.

Ling Chuxia’s breathing became somewhat rapid, her chest heaving, and although unwilling, she felt helpless. She still glared at Shi Che hatefully, but her tightly clenched hand gradually loosened. She slowly lay back down on the bed but turned her head away, not wanting to see Shi Che anymore.

The corner of Shi Che’s eye caught Ling Chuxia’s gesture of compromise. His eyes flickered, knowing that it was these words that had made her compromise. It was not without sadness, but his heart couldn’t help but stir with a bittersweet sweetness. At least, he could now stay to take care of her, instead of her having to tough it out alone.

Soon, Shi Che suppressed his emotions, retracted his gaze indifferently, and stepped out of the room.

-

Shi Che had hardly ever cooked. It was natural for someone of his stature to not need to do so himself. The only one or two times he had done so were back when they were newlyweds. Ling Chuxia would occasionally complain that she was always the one cooking for him, insisting that he too should cook a meal.
