Chapter 639: Chapter 638 What on Earth Do You Want to Do (8)
Ling Chuxia dozed off in a dazed state; she couldn’t sleep soundly all night, plagued by nightmares, and her body fluctuated between two extremes: one moment burning hot as if scorched by blazing fire and the next freezing so cold that her teeth chattered.
She seemed to hear the knocking at the door again, incessant and persistent. Ling Chuxia’s delicate brows furrowed tightly as her mind grew increasingly troubled. Why had Shi Che come again? Why couldn’t he leave her alone? She had already distanced herself far from him...
She didn’t want to see him, didn’t want to see him at all! Ling Chuxia clutched herself tighter as her head grew heavier and fuzzier.
Shi Che had knocked on the door for a long while, and just like the previous night, there was no response from inside. Shi Che didn’t know whether Chuxia had yet to wake up or if it was because she didn’t want to deal with him, but he stopped knocking and continued to wait outside the door.
He didn’t want to disturb her, but he would also fight for his chance.
This wait lasted almost a whole day, from sunrise to sunset, and then as evening approached. Shi Che glanced at his watch; it was already past seven in the evening.
Ling Chuxia had stayed in her house the whole day, completely silent. Could something have happened?
Shi Che knocked on the door again, but like before, there was not the slightest stir. Shi Che felt an increasing anxiety deep inside him. It would be one thing if Ling Chuxia simply didn’t want to pay him any attention, but if something had happened to her inside...
With that thought, he couldn’t stay put any longer. He had to see Chuxia, at the very least to know she was safe and nothing was amiss.
Shi Che stared at the door closed tightly before him, took out his cellphone, and dialed a number.
The locksmith came rather quickly, but the high-tech digital lock was not easily bypassed, and Shi Che found himself glancing at his watch every few minutes, his heart somehow growing more and more frantic.
He couldn’t wait for the locksmith any longer; he dashed back to his apartment, reached the balcony, measured the distance between the two balconies, closed his eyes, and hoisted himself up.

Safely landing on Ling Chuxia’s apartment balcony, Shi Che’s forehead was somewhat drenched in cold sweat, but he didn’t even pause to wipe it off, stepping straight into the living room.
At first glance, there was no one in the living room; it was eerily empty. Shi Che’s gaze darkened as he headed toward the bedroom.
The room was dark, with no lights on, but Shi Che immediately saw the lump huddled on the bed, and his heart sank a little.
She was just sleeping, nothing had happened... But before the thought settled in, he noticed the lump under the covers was constantly trembling.
What was wrong with Chuxia?
Before fully grasping the situation, Shi Che’s long legs carried him to the bed. As soon as he touched the blanket, he could feel the heat. His heart trembled as he gently lifted the covers to find Ling Chuxia, and it was as if a large hand had gripped his throat, leaving him breathless.
Ling Chuxia was curled up under the blanket, her body shivering, her forehead drenched in sweat, her hair dampened by the heat and a few strands sticking to her cheeks. The cold sweat slid down her cheeks, moistening her neck, and even seeped into her clothes.
Shi Che’s hand reached under Ling Chuxia’s clothing, touching the back of her hand, confirming the dampness and scorching heat.
The heat seemed as if it could burn his palm.
