Why did Zhuang Haoxiong do this? Zhuang Haoran wasn’t very clear.

The fact that he had fallen for a girl, and it had reached his family so quickly made him feel somewhat embarrassed and at a loss for what to do. After all, it was just unrequited love on his part. Now, because of his selfish feelings, she had to bear the consequences, and he felt incredibly guilty.

His heart was full of a bitter emotion.

As he was pondering, not knowing if he had the courage to face her, a figure suddenly appeared at the hotel entrance.

Was it her?

Zhuang Haoran was startled, almost dropping his phone. Luca, listening to his flustered movements from the other side, couldn’t help but laugh. Zhuang Haoran had no choice but to angrily shut off his phone and stuff it into his coat pocket.

As he saw Gu Nuan approaching, Zhuang Haoran adjusted his coat and briskly stepped forward to meet her.

The two of them stood by the roadside, with less than an arm’s length between them, and stopped.

It was supposedly a warm winter, but it was indeed a bit cold at night.

Gu Nuan was bundled in a thick white cotton jacket, her nose a bit red from the cold.

Zhuang Haoran observed her face, slightly bowed to avoid the harsh wind, and felt a pang in his heart, wanting to remove his coat for her.

Gu Nuan saw his gesture and said, "I’m not cold. It’s just a bit windy."

"Let me take you for a hot drink," Zhuang Haoran said, moving to open his car door.

"No need, Mr. Zhuang. I’m not alone." Gu Nuan said.

Accompanying her words, Zhuang Haoran saw a few people standing not far behind her. Whether they were her bodyguards or assistants, it was clear they addressed her as the young mistress of the Xiao Family, their vigilant eyes watching his every move.

Zhuang Haoran was filled with bitterness; he had rushed over, only wanting to see if she was alright, if his family had been giving her a hard time. If they had, it was all his fault, and he ought to apologize.

No matter what, disturbing someone you like was not something a man should do.

Zhuang Haoran rubbed his palms together.

Gu Nuan looked at his usually shy face, appearing even more awkward now, and she had already guessed what he wanted to say before she came down.

As expected, he spoke, "I’m sorry, if my family has caused you any unnecessary trouble, please understand. They might have done it out of concern—"

Did this man really not know what his family was up to? Gu Nuan glanced over his somewhat naive face.

It just so happened she had some things to say to him too, ever since meeting his grandmother.

"Aren’t I doing just fine, Mr. Zhuang?" Gu Nuan said.

Zhuang Haoran was momentarily stunned; he hadn’t expected her to be the one comforting him.

"Go home," Gu Nuan continued, "Mr. Zhuang, please go home. Your grandmother called you back, didn’t she?"

Her voice, in the cold wind, was slightly hoarse.

Chilling, it rubbed at his heartstrings.

Zhuang Haoran’s gaze lingered on her face as if it had taken root, refusing to leave. But her expression was so determined, her gaze so penetrating.

"Mr. Zhuang, haven’t you gone home yet?"

He had come rushing to her after receiving the order to return home.

Zhuang Haoran swallowed, "Yes—I’ll go back right away—"

Gu Nuan stood firmly, as if it signified something.
