Chapter 1414: Mingli, I’m Coming (4)

Chapter 1414: Mingli, I’m Coming (4)

With a cold snort, Tang Sili sneered, "Didn’t you say I’m a bad person? Miss Zhao, you really overestimate me. My heart honestly can’t meet the standards required by your split personality."

Zhao Mengjin curled her lip. "Talking like a professional, trying to fool me, huh? If you’ve got the guts, say a few musical terms."

"I can’t read staff notation, all that D major, B minor stuff, I can recite it from memory. Want me to recite it?"

"What’s the point of rote memorization?"

"Exactly. So why are you arguing about professional terminology with a doctor?"

This was probably the longest conversation she’d ever had with him in her life. He had no idea how much she wished at this moment that this staircase would never end.

Just as she was lost in such fantasies, her foot slipped, and as she was about to tumble down the stairs, his hand grabbed her by the arm. Their eyes met, and she really couldn’t hold back anymore. To hell with how much he hated her, she just wanted to, wanted to—her other hand went around his neck, and her lips shot up, crashing into his open mouth as he was catching his breath.

Sitting in the car headed for departure, Lingxin could feel the low pressure around his uncle. He whispered, "Uncle?"

Hearing his voice, Ou Yanan seemed to jolt awake from a dream. Turning his head and seeing that worried little face, he realized he’d lost control of himself, which was the last thing he should do, especially in front of this child.

"It’s fine." Ou Yanan smiled at the kid and put his hand on the boy’s head, ruffling his hair.

"Uncle might not know, but Mingli really likes you."

"He does?" Thinking of that lively little monkey, Ou Yanan couldn’t help but smile. "You sure it’s not just because he thinks it’s fun to mess with me?"

The second monkey’s personality was more like Yebai’s, and Yebai liked to mess with him, the uncle.

"No." Lingxin said with certainty, "Mingli’s not as smart as Uncle."

Ou Yanan didn’t respond, sinking back into deep thought. Honestly, when he heard that Ou Chunhua had died, he rushed to call Tang Sili. Rather than saying he was sad and in disbelief, it was more like he was unwilling to accept it.

Indeed, after finding out the real reason Ou Chunhua had adopted him, his feelings for her had long since turned into nothing more than fulfilling an obligation. But as a basic human being, he had watched for so many years as Ou Chunhua longed for a son. And besides, did that guy really never long for motherly love?

The result was, that guy hadn’t even planned to see Ou Chunhua one last time.

The car stopped at the departing port.

A boat, ready to set sail, was moored at the dock. It wasn’t large. That was because no one knew what kind of risks they might encounter at sea; a big ship wasn’t necessarily better than a small, agile one when it came to passing through harsh sea conditions.

Everyone who had finished packing boarded the vessel. Those boarding, aside from Xiao Yebai and his few brothers, included Gu Nuan and Zhong Qiaohui, followed by Ou Yanan and Lingxin.

The rest were men brought by Old Six, a group of retired soldiers with extremely impressive skills.

Xiao Jianming, Old Master Zhong, and the others didn’t board. They could only watch the boat leave.

The third sister, Xiao Shuju, waved a kerchief to her eldest nephew on the boat while wiping her tears.

Xiao Shuzhu was choking up as well; this separation might very well be a parting of life and death. They might never see each other again.

Ring ring ring, the phone in Xiao Shuju’s pocket started ringing.

Xiao Shuzhu asked, "Who’s calling, Third Sister?"

Xiao Shuju sniffed, took out her phone, saw the caller ID, and a strange arc tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Third Sister?"

"I’ve got something urgent to take care of."

"Need me to go with you, Third Sister?"

"You can come if you want."

Hearing that, Xiao Shuzhu felt it was even stranger. For a second, she almost backed out. But in the end, out of concern for this third sister, she went along with Xiao Shuju.

She watched as Xiao Shuju led her to the morgue.

Xiao Shuzhu was so frightened she grabbed her sleeve. "Who died?"

The staff pulled the corpse out of the freezer for Xiao Shuju to identify.

When Xiao Shuzhu looked closely, her eyes bulged. "Isn’t this—Lin Jiale’s daughter—" As she spoke, she looked at Xiao Shuju in confusion. "Third Sister, what’s going on?"

They had never heard anything about when Lin Yishan had died.

Xiao Shuju smiled with a wicked charm. "That day the news was on TV, saying some unidentified woman had been killed in a rental room. One look and I thought, isn’t that my ex-husband’s daughter? So I went down to the police station with the relevant documents."

What Xiao Shuzhu questioned was: given how much she hated Lin Jiale, would she really be kind enough to collect the body for Lin Yishan?

As for that, Xiao Shuju hooked an arm through her younger sister’s and whispered in her ear: I’ve already made arrangements. I’m going to feed their father and daughter’s ashes to the dogs.

Xiao Shuzhu felt her brain explode like it had been hit by lightning.

"Th-third Sister—"

"Don’t say I’m cruel. I’m telling you, think about what they did to our family!"

In an instant, Xiao Shuzhu’s attitude changed, and she chose to remain silent.

Xiao Shuju snorted. She was determined to leave these scumbags with no burial place!

The boat left the port of departure, but out on the vast sea, the helmsman had no idea which way to go.

The Dark Island didn’t appear on any nautical chart.

In the cabin, Ou Yanan had everything prepared and began hypnotic induction on Lingxin, who was lying on the bed.

Through the observation window of the room, Gu Nuan withdrew her gaze and turned away. Her husband stood there watching their son, unmoving like a statue.

Under the doctor’s hypnotism, Lingxin gradually entered a strange world. He felt like a bird in flight, passing through layers of dark clouds. Time and space seemed to turn into nothingness; crossing them took no effort at all for his now-flying spirit.

How strange. Why had he never known something like this was possible?

Right, his goal was to find his little brother, nothing else. He wasn’t here just to fly.

He shouted in every direction, "Mingli, Mingli—"

Suddenly, a pair of little eyes—exactly like his own—also pierced through time and space and met his gaze.

It was his little brother—Mingli.

Lingxin held his breath and squinted his little eyes hard, fixing the direction based on his brother’s tiny eyes opposite him.

"Head east. No, that’s the wrong way, go the opposite direction—"

According to the information coming from the hypnosis room, Zhan Dapeng in the captain’s cabin carefully adjusted the boat’s course.

Ahead, all they could see was a dark, gloomy sky and a raging, turbulent sea.
