Chapter 518: Can the Great Demon King Read Minds?
The white BMW stopped in front of an apartment building.Xia Duoduo cautiously moved to the car door, letting her uninjured foot touch the ground first. Just as she was about to grab the car door to stand up, a man’s hand reached out and handed her the crutch.
"Thank you."
Xia Duoduo gave Ye Cheng a rather strained smile.
After all, Agent Ye hadn’t shown her a single good expression throughout their journey.
The accident with the wire rig had no evidence to prove it was caused by someone else.
Ye Cheng investigated for a long time but couldn’t find any leads. Meanwhile, the stunt coordinator kept making exaggerated claims on the side, insisting that it was Xia Duoduo’s improper use of the rig that caused her to slip and fall.
The incident had happened so suddenly that Xia Duoduo had been scared out of her wits and had long forgotten the details. Given her usual air of slight cluelessness, Ye Cheng probably believed it was her fault too.
Ye Cheng carried the luggage ahead while Xia Duoduo limped behind him.
The man in front walked so quickly that she couldn’t keep up, leading her to silently curse: Great Demon King, you heartless jerk! I’m at least your artist, and here I am injured like this—will it kill you to show some empathy?
Ye Cheng suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her.
His phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, making Xia Duoduo’s heart skip a beat.
Can the Great Demon King read minds?
That look totally seemed like he knew she was badmouthing him.
"Agent Ye, are you hungry? How about we grab some late-night snacks?" Xia Duoduo hurriedly said to cover up her guilt. Orıginal content can be found at Nov3lFɪre.ɴet
She was genuinely hungry.
They had rushed back from Heng City, and now it was past nine in the evening.
"Not hungry."
Ye Cheng tossed out two cold words and continued walking.
Xia Duoduo fumed quietly, sticking her tongue out repeatedly at his retreating figure.
She patted her empty stomach, sighed dramatically for a moment, and then limped after him.
In the elevator, neither of them spoke.
Watching the numbers climb, Xia Duoduo felt bored out of her mind and couldn’t help but glance at the unnaturally handsome man beside her.
Ye Cheng’s looks were flawless, even surpassing those of most male celebrities.
Xia Duoduo was so captivated that she didn’t notice when the elevator doors opened.
Ye Cheng stepped out first. After taking a few steps and realizing there was no movement behind him, he turned back—and saw Xia Duoduo clumsily trying to stop the closing elevator doors.
The crutch ended up falling to the floor, causing Xia Duoduo to lose her balance and stumble forward.
Ye Cheng reacted quickly and caught her.
Xia Duoduo turned pale and thought to herself, Thank goodness, thank goodness—almost fell flat on my face!
Ye Cheng helped her lean against the wall, picked up the crutch for her, and warned, "If you keep being so careless, I won’t help next time."
Watching his departing figure, Xia Duoduo puckered her lips so much they could hang a bottle of oil.
Not that she needed his help!
"Come open the door."
Ye Cheng stood in front of the apartment door and glanced back at her.
Xia Duoduo dragged herself over reluctantly, feeling utterly defiant inside.
She fished out the key and unlocked the door, and Ye Cheng walked straight in to place the suitcase against the wall.
"Stay home quietly during this time, don’t bother coming to the company," Ye Cheng said before turning to leave.
"Hey! Wait a minute!" Xia Duoduo quickly called out, "Um... I need to take a bath. Can you help fill the tub with water? My foot isn’t convenient."
She had racked her brain for an excuse.
Truthfully, she just wanted to spend a bit more time with him.
Ye Cheng glanced at Xia Duoduo’s plaster-wrapped foot and said flatly, "In your current state, don’t even think about taking a bath."
"But I haven’t bathed in two days; I feel awful!" Xia Duoduo pleaded pitifully, looking at him.
Ye Cheng was about to respond when his phone suddenly rang.
He pulled it out and looked—the screen showed no name, only a string of familiar digits.
A shadow of a figure surfaced in his mind: Zimei.
