Chapter 1032: How Can I Make You Believe Me?
These words struck right at Zimei’s sore spot. Her hand tightly gripped the chopsticks, her eyes downcast as she silently stared at the enticing piece of sweet and sour pork in her bowl. After a while, She finally steadied her breath, looked up directly at the man sitting across from her, and solemnly said, "A Cheng, I promise you, I won’t disappear again."
"Do you think it’s like a child making a mistake, and just writing a promise makes everything okay?" Ye Cheng retorted.
"What do I need to do for you to believe me?" Zimei’s face turned pale, yet she was unwilling to give up.
What would it take to believe her...
Even in Ye Cheng’s heart, He had no answer to that question.
The man didn’t reply; instead, He set down his bowl and chopsticks, pushed his chair back, and stood up.
"Please leave after you finish eating."
Ye Cheng left behind a cold remark and walked out of the restaurant.
Faced with a table of delicious meals, Zimei had lost her appetite. However, before leaving, She still packed some uneaten sweet and sour pork ribs.
In the days that followed, She did not go to see Ye Cheng.
One day, while Zimei was shopping alone, She noticed that with the deep autumn, scarves had started to appear in the shop windows, all in the season’s most trendy styles.
The image of Ye Cheng wearing a scarf unconsciously appeared in her mind, surely handsome and charming.
Zimei walked into the store, browsing for a long time but couldn’t find a scarf that suited Ye Cheng’s temperament. She felt a bit discouraged, but soon, She recalled the scene from her childhood where the housemaids at her home knitted scarves with yarn.
Perhaps, She could also try to knit a scarf for Ye Cheng.
Zimei had never knitted a scarf before, so She found tutorial videos online and followed them step by step to learn.
At first, her knitting was very ugly, crooked and awkward, unbearable to look at.
She then unraveled it and started again, still unsatisfied, so She unraveled it again... Repeating this many times, it finally started to resemble something decent.
The day after finishing the scarf, Zimei mustered the courage to go find Ye Cheng.
She appeared in a bright red coat, while Ye Cheng’s expression was indifferent, with a hint of impatience in his brows.
"What is it?" He asked coldly.
Tying her hair at the back today, Zimei looked fresh and capable. She tucked a stray lock behind her ear and smiled charmingly at the man, "This is for you."
She thrust the paper bag She held into Ye Cheng’s hands, then added mysteriously, "Open it later."
Ye Cheng glanced down at the paper bag, vaguely seeing a soft brown lump inside.
Could it possibly be some small animal?
When He looked up again, the woman was staring intently at him, every gesture filled with charm.
"I won’t keep you busy any longer, A Cheng, goodbye."
Zimei said with a smile, turning gracefully on her heel.
Ye Cheng watched her retreating back in a daze for a long time.
Zimei did not harbor hopes that Ye Cheng would use the scarf, but not long after, at a movie premiere, Ye Cheng surprisingly wore it.
"I gave you a scarf, shouldn’t we reciprocate by going to see a movie together?" Zimei asked with a smile.
Ye Cheng couldn’t find a reason to refuse.
After all, it had been his own lapse in judgment to wear the scarf she had knit, and it was too late to take it off now.
By the time they entered the cinema, they were already several minutes late, so as not to disturb others, they sat in the back row.
They had once sat this intimately, watching movies together. Back then, Zimei had believed that she and Ye Cheng were deeply in love with each other, and would hold hands until they grew old, never separating.
Later, She came to realize that many things are unpredictable.
On the giant screen before her, images fluttered with sound. The movie’s story was captivating, but Zimei paid no attention to what it was about. Because all her focus was on Ye Cheng.
