Chapter 463: Young Master Lin
Chapter 463: Young Master Lin
Xue Cong was brought up with the belief that she, as the wife, would look after the household while Lin Xuan Qi, as the husband, would take care of all the other matters outside.
She would not ask more than what she needed to know, supporting him in the best way she knew was much more important to her.
And taking good care of his health was one of the ways.
Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head to her and had a sip of the tea he had in his hand.
Having warm tea in this cold weather and a good meal waiting for him was a luxury many could not afford in the Da Qian Dynasty.
He would love to sit back and enjoy the rest of the day looking out at the scenery if he could.
But there was still work to be done.
Lin Xuan Qi stood up and said, "Let me know when lunch is ready. I need to settle some of the budgeting with Yue Jie."
Xue Cong nodded her head and she also got back to managing the servant girls with their work.
...
When he entered Yue Jie’s room, she was busy with the accounts and a servant girl was helping her count the taels of silver that were in front of her.
The clacking sound of the abacus sounded in the air while Yue Jie did the calculations.
However, it stopped suddenly.
Yue Jie’s hand froze above the abacus and she frowned when she saw him enter the room.
"Now, I have to go through it again..." Yue Jie said and gave him an aggrieved look.
She had not expected to see him and it made her lose her train of thought for a moment. And it was enough to make her lose track of how much it was.
"Master Lin." The servant girl greeted him and she quickly got out of the room.
After she got out and closed the doors behind her, Lin Xuan Qi glanced back at Yue Jie and said, "Guess I came at the wrong time?"
Yue Jie shrugged and gestured at the account books with the taels of silver that were in front of her.
Lin Xuan Qi sat down beside her and said, "Don’t worry, you will have to redo the sums again anyway."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, I’ve bought an inn for a hundred and fifty taels of gold." He said and picked up the cup of tea she had by her side.
Yue Jie held onto his wrist, with her eyes opened wide and she asked to confirm, "You bought what?"
"An inn, that’s all." Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head at her and she frowned with her brows furrowed.
She began to go through what they had left and said, "We have three hundred and twelve taels of gold with us.
"After spending the hundred and fifty taels of gold, we would have around a hundred and sixty two taels of gold left."
The amount was what Lin Xuan Qi had expected and he nodded his head.
He went on and said, "That wouldn’t be the end of it though.
"I plan to buy more businesses and other items too."
The Spirit Herbs would also cost a little and he was planning to buy more items like talisman papers, containers for the Formation Array, and other cultivation artifacts.
A trip to Wan Shou Fang in Bian Jing would have to be made when winter was over.
That got Yue Jie a little anxious and she asked, "Would it be better if we waited a little for the inn to make some money first?"
Lin Xuan Qi shook his head and briefed her on what he had told Xue Cong earlier.
"Don’t worry, the rice business is our fallback even if everything else fails." Lin Xuan Qi explained and she let go of his wrist.
With her taking care of the accounts, she knew how much the rice business brought in and how stable it was.
Lin Xuan Qi went on and said, "The rice supplies will also increase in the coming days, so don’t worry about it."
After he paid up and signed the documents for the inn, there would be more people from the inn added to the Lin Clan and it would let him get more rice delivered daily.
He was now at a point where he was able to hold on and protect the things he owned.
So he was not as apprehensive about getting more people into the clan compared to how it was when he had just started with only Xue Cong by his side.
"What other businesses are you thinking about?" Yue Jie asked and he shook his head.
"I have no idea for now." He replied and was finally able to have a sip of the tea.
"I think it’s best if the new businesses made use of what we are already doing." She suggested to him and he nodded his head.
It was also what he had been thinking about.
He would have to expend much more energy and resources to get into a new line of business compared to having something that was related or downstream to what he was already dealing with.
Packaging? Food? Perfume?
There were many ideas that went through his mind but he was not able to decide for the time being.
"Get the guards to deliver the money for the inn to Liu Shao, and he will send me the documents for me to sign." Lin Xuan Qi said and Yue Jie took note of it.
"I will get it done by today."
"Great. That means I can enjoy the rest of the day, living like a young master." Lin Xuan Qi exclaimed and slumped in his chair.
Yue Jie shook her head at him and said, "If all the young masters were like you, the Da Qian Dynasty would be much richer and more powerful than it is now."
"Oh really? Tell me more about it." He liked her roundabout way of praising him and he wrapped his arm around her waist.
