Chapter 42: Storms Gathered
【I... kept my eyes open and told lies.】
At that moment the System, deep in Li Tianwei’s consciousness, had already awakened long before when Li Tianwei had asked Bai Muxu, and it had been looking forward to Bai Muxu speaking to chastise Li Tianwei.
But unexpectedly Bai Muxu had simply ignored all of Li Tianwei’s circumstances and had spoken shamelessly as if he felt no embarrassment at all.
If it could connect to Bai Muxu, the System wanted very much to walk up to him, pry his eyes open, point at Li Tianwei and ask.
【Are you blind! All sorts of heretical methods, even the Dao intents he comprehended were Death, Resentment, Killing, Evil — which eye of his had seen anything true.】
Unfortunately the System could not — from the moment it became bound to Li Tianwei it belonged to him, and its consciousness could only communicate with him and assist him.
As for Bai Muxu, he had no idea that a certain thing had heard him speaking with his eyes open and calling Li Tianwei blind.
He finished speaking with no flush on his face and no quickening of his heart, then took his leave from Li Tianwei.
“Very well, I will not disturb you further. Now that you have grasped the structure of the spells, I hope you can construct your own spells from the celestial arts I gave you.”
“Farewell, Master.”
Li Tianwei nodded at this and saw Bai Muxu off.
“System, it seems you have a problem. You need a proper virus cleanup.”
Li Tianwei immediately said to the System within his consciousness.
The System went silent at once; it had not expected that Bai Muxu, who looked so righteous and imposing, was actually such a shameless fellow — the master and disciple were the same sort of person.
But sighing would not help.
【Forget it. Wait until someone from the Sacred Land of Lingxu reaches the Out-of-Body or the Tribulation-Transcending elders come out of seclusion — then I want to see what you’ll say.】
The System huffed in anger; after all, anyone who had been put through the troubles that this host had endured would have been driven mad.

Burning Void Peak.
Liu Muyu staggered back to his cave residence with vacant eyes; he could already sense what his fate would be.
“I distinctly used the Soul-Corrupting Banner, and yet that Li Tianwei was still fine — and even counter-killed Yuan Xixiao.”
Scenes from the Duel Platform kept flashing through Liu Muyu’s mind.
Even Xiao E had been detained, and Yuan Xixiao’s situation was ruined.
If the Sacred Land of Baiyuan learned this, Liu Muyu took a deep breath.
“No — I must fight for myself, otherwise Baiyuan will never let me off.”
Thinking this, Liu Muyu no longer hesitated and immediately took out a communication bead.
Staring at the bead in front of him, he gritted his teeth and his gaze steadied; without any hesitation he poured spiritual power into the bead.
Soon, with ripples from the spirit power, the surface of the bead shimmered and an elderly man with white hair and a childlike face and an expression of benign kindness appeared inside it.
“Elder Ding.”
Liu Muyu hurriedly greeted.
“You, Liu Muyu — what is the meaning of your report? Didn’t you say you’d used the Soul-Corrupting Banner to make that fellow absorb the Filthy Resentful Aura?”
“Why did the Resentment Channeling Curse not work, and why has it caused our Sacred Land of Baiyuan such losses?”
Ding Moxiang’s once-placid face twisted into a snarl and he glared at Liu Muyu angrily.
“Elder Ding, I don’t know what happened either. I did let the hundred thousand resentful energies inside the Banner invade his cave. I personally saw him cultivate and absorb the Filthy Resentful Aura.”
Liu Muyu immediately tried to explain himself.
But Ding Moxiang did not let the explanations even enter his ears.
“No need to speak. You know the consequences of betraying the Sacred Land of Baiyuan.”
Ding Moxiang spoke with murderous intent in his eyes.
“No — it can’t be like this. Elder Ding, give me one more chance!”
“I’ll find a way to eliminate Li Tianwei. Give me one more chance — I already have an idea.”
Liu Muyu knelt on the ground and pleaded with a face full of desperation.
“What plan?”
Ding Moxiang raised an eyebrow and asked.
Soon Liu Muyu told him his scheme.
Ding Moxiang’s harsh expression softened back into a kindly one.
“Good, good. I’ll give you a chance. You must kill him — otherwise not only you, but your entire family and clan will be wiped out.”
Ding Moxiang threatened.
Liu Muyu nodded vigorously at that.
—
Heaven’s Gate Peak.
Some time had passed since the last Duel Platform event.
It was precisely because of that battle that Li Tianwei’s name had completely echoed throughout the Sacred Land of Lingxu; he had even been rated first among the new disciples.
During this time some new disciples had broken through into the Foundation Establishment Realm.
Among them Fang Mochen was second; because he had broken through a few days after the Hundred-Day mark, his probability of ascending had decreased.
Most importantly, with Li Tianchen breaking Foundation Establishment as well, the news that a sect had two rising stars drew great attention throughout the Sacred Land of Lingxu.
Woodbeard Peak, the alchemy chamber.
“One sect with two stars — Heavenly Star Li Tianwei, Earth Star Li Tianchen — hahahaha, this is too funny.”
Elder Ling inside the ring laughed until he fell about when he heard the rumor; as a remnant soul he flipped midair.
Li Tianchen had also attended the Duel Platform; he had originally planned to watch Li Tianwei make a fool of himself.
Given Li Tianchen’s False Spiritual Root, even with assistance helping him through perilous situations, once he stepped onto the Duel Platform it would be a test of real skill.
He had not expected Li Tianwei to win and finish it off so quickly.
From then on Li Tianchen sensed that something was amiss.
At first Li Tianwei had been mismeasured by the Spirit-Testing Stone as having a Heavenly Spiritual Root; later, arriving at the Sacred Land of Lingxu he had received aid and successfully reached the top of the Heart-Questioning Steps, disguising himself as having a Heavenly Root.
Then came the Hundred-Day Foundation Establishment, and now he had crushed another Hundred-Day Foundation genius in a duel.
No matter how one looked at it, Li Tianchen felt he might have stepped into some sort of conspiracy.
All the circumstances pointed to that Li Tianwei was extraordinary.
“What on earth was my good elder brother?”
Li Tianchen tore at his hair in frustration; these days he had been tormented by the same worry.
“Elder Ling, what do you think my elder brother is really like?”
Li Tianchen asked Elder Ling again.
“As to what he truly was — why bother caring! If he was a False Spiritual Root, then no matter what he did he would always be a False Root; the further he cultivated the greater the drawbacks would become.”
Elder Ling sighed.
“But I—”
Li Tianchen bit his lip and suppressed the storm inside him.
Elder Ling hesitated, then seemed to recall something.
“Perhaps there is another possibility. Do you remember that disciple we once jointly killed who sought to attack you?”
“He had a strange aura, somewhat like the one your cheap elder brother showed when he fought on the platform. We can start from that.”
Li Tianchen recalled that person; when he had killed him that man had still been able to release immense power — had it not been for Elder Ling he might have perished.
Comparing the two now, indeed they were very similar to Li Tianwei.
“Wait and see, Li Tianwei.”
With that Li Tianchen began to form a plan.
