Chapter 216: Meeting Faye Truman
Chapter 216: Meeting Faye Truman
In the evening, after the two children went to sleep, Mama Bennett specifically talked to Ruby Sullivan about Honey’s situation, "She wants to learn how to bake cupcakes, saying she could sell them by the roadside on weekends for money."
Ruby Sullivan was puzzled, "Does she have anything she needs money for lately?"
"Could it be because Christmas is coming, she wants to buy gifts for her classmates?" Mama Bennett was equally puzzled. For a four-year-old like Honey to want to earn money isn’t too strange if born into a poor family, but this kind of thing is quite irrelevant for Honey’s life.
Ruby Sullivan thought she might still be awake, and decided to go directly to ask her what her thoughts were.
Learning to bake and making money was not a problem, but why Honey needed money was something a mom wanted to know.
Honey’s answer left her speechless; she wanted to relieve her father’s burden so he could have more time to see her.
Ruby Sullivan felt a bit sad listening to this; she had never known how important a father was to Honey. She always thought she had grown up by her side without a father, and it was okay. It turned out she was wrong all along.
Honey wanted a father too much, likely in the same way Seth Sterling wanted a mother. That’s why Seth chose to leave with her, and Honey couldn’t make a choice. Perhaps, if really asked to choose, she would have chosen to go with her mom like before.
Ruby Sullivan sighed, rubbed Honey’s head, and asked, "Do you really want to go back to your original home?"
Honey thought for a moment and nodded, "That was Honey’s home, of course Honey wants to go back. But here is also good; I even made new friends in kindergarten. It’s just that I can’t see daddy, or Vivian, here."
She started speaking with a lower and lower voice.
Ruby Sullivan kissed her forehead, "Let’s sleep first."
"Mom, do you disagree with me buying cupcakes?"
"I agree, mom supports your decisions. This weekend, I’ll help you bake cupcakes, okay?"
"That’s wonderful!" Honey became happy again.
That night, Ruby Sullivan couldn’t sleep well as if she was always dreaming, even though she didn’t know what she was dreaming about.
The next day, she told these things to her father. Looking at his unchanged expression, she sighed and leaned on him, "Dad, if you were here, you’d definitely tell me what to do, right? I heard Rhonda Sullivan went mad, perhaps related to Ethan Sterling. I’m a bit afraid to ask what’s going on with him, afraid... afraid I can’t handle his other side."
After speaking, she sighed again.
"Sighing so much, be careful not to turn into an old lady."
A familiar voice came from behind. Ruby Sullivan straightened up and looked back to find Faye Truman standing at the hospital room’s door.
"Oh my god, am I seeing things?" She stood up excitedly and gave him a big hug, "Why are you here?"
"I came for an academic conference. Today there’s a meeting nearby, so I thought I’d come and see your father, and didn’t expect to see you too," Faye Truman explained.
After smiling foolishly, Rhonda tapped his chest with her finger and reproached, "You are so inconsiderate, coming to Meridia without telling me in advance. I could have prepared to welcome you."
"Miss, I came for work, with a tightly packed schedule. I didn’t even know if I had time for a meal with you, so I didn’t dare tell you before confirming."
"How about lunch? Do you have time for lunch? I can have Mama Bennett prepare it, there’s still plenty of time now."
Seeing her enthusiastic demeanor, Faye Truman nodded.
Actually, he wasn’t that busy, just hesitating whether to see her or not. Upon meeting her, he realized he did want to see her and felt relieved seeing her well.
Faye Truman had a short meeting, and once it concluded, they went home together.
Mama Bennett had already prepared a table full of dishes. With guests at home, Mama Bennett was very happy, but she didn’t want to interrupt the two’s reminiscence, so she quickly finished her meal and left the dining table.
Ruby Sullivan thought of an afternoon date, deciding to let Faye Truman help with a decision.
Faye Truman hadn’t expected her to already be prepared to meet a new man, a pace unlike the previous Ruby Sullivan. However, he preferred her current openness over being the silly girl who insisted on clinging to one tree.
"I’ve never met the person, so I can’t give advice." He said with a mischievous smile, "How about I join you for coffee this afternoon?"
"It’s not impossible." Ruby thought of a TV scenario, considering having Faye Truman sit inconspicuously at the next table, which might actually be good, "Do you have time this afternoon?"
Faye Truman flicked her forehead and said, "You take it seriously? You’re grown-up enough; why don’t you have the courage to have a coffee with a man? Where’s the boldness you had when returning from Bellaza?"
Ruby laughed, a bit flushed.
Returning from Bellaza, she had put on a charming demeanor, all to attract Ethan Sterling. Yet now, she wanted to be a single mom from a little town, looking to date a reliable man. The nature of it was completely different, right?
"By the way..." Faye Truman suddenly remembered something, his expression somewhat desolate, "Emma’s face, I failed."
"Failed?" Ruby Sullivan didn’t immediately understand what he meant.
"A hormone meant to promote skin growth caused sensitivity in her skin, not only failing to make her scars disappear but causing a secondary eruption of the wounds. Although healed now, she will never be able to return to how she looked before." Faye Truman frowned slightly, "Her face is completely ruined."
He came hoping to hear updated technologies that might give Cindy Sterling’s face a chance.
Ruby Sullivan was completely stunned, "Then Cindy..."
"She probably hasn’t told anyone. I... am very sorry," Faye Truman lowered his head.
Ruby Sullivan didn’t know what to say; she understood Faye Truman felt worse about Cindy’s face not healing. She patted his shoulder, "That’s fate."
Cindy Sterling hoped her career would progress upon receiving a script, never expecting an accident to derail her future.
"Cindy is a strong girl; she’ll come through this."
Faye Truman gave a bitter smile; perhaps only he knew she wasn’t strong, her heart made of glass. When she heard her face couldn’t be healed, she smashed his office, almost jabbed her neck with glass. He still bore a shallow mark on his arm from where she cut him.
He knew that in her eyes, her face was her life.
"If convenient, you should tell her family, ensure her mood stays stable and she doesn’t do anything extreme."
Ruby Sullivan remembered Cindy Sterling’s gloom, daring not to dismiss Faye Truman’s words. "I’ll call Ethan Sterling to talk about this today."
