Chapter 207: The Wife Comes First
Chapter 207: The Wife Comes First
Ruby Sullivan was surprised to see Mama Bennett come out of Honey’s room so quickly, "Is she going to sleep on her own tonight?"
Mama Bennett gestured for silence and walked over, whispering, "She asked to use my phone to video call Mr. Sterling. What happened today?"
Ruby Sullivan let out a bitter laugh, "Hmm... the little one might have misunderstood." She really didn’t know how to explain it to Mama Bennett.
According to her son, the single dad who greeted her today seemed to know her from before and apparently quite liked her appearance. But her son, making friends for the first time, seemed less discerning emotionally and didn’t reject this idea. Besides, he understood the meaning of divorce better than his sister; in his mind, mom and dad were done, and wouldn’t get back together again. So having a good friend’s dad wanting to pursue mom was a good thing; after all, mom couldn’t stay single forever, right?
Moreover, dad had Mrs. Sullivan already, and mom might quickly find a second Mrs. Sullivan. So he was more worried about mom.
But Honey was different. She had questioned the divorce but hadn’t really understood it. Plus having this father-daughter bond with Ethan Sterling all these years, and her longing for dad, made her treasure him immensely, thinking no one could replace him. The idea of other men eyeing her mom was just not okay!
In the room, Honey waited for a long time and finally saw dad on the screen.
On the other end of the call, Ethan Sterling groggily heard his phone ring. If it weren’t for seeing "Mama Bennett," he probably would’ve tossed his phone aside.
Clearly, Mama Bennett wouldn’t video call him without reason. So he woke up a bit more, seeing his daughter’s chubby face on the screen, his frown relaxed, and he forced a smile, "What’s up, my little princess?"
"Dad!" Honey cried out and started tearing up, pouting and sniffing, "Mom is going to be taken away by someone!"
"What’s going on?" Ethan Sterling hopped out of bed and started listening as his daughter rambled on about the man she met outside the gym.
The story was quite simple, but Honey’s ability to articulate was limited, coupled with crying while speaking, she rambled for over half an hour, but Ethan only grasped that one significant sentence, mom is going to be taken away by someone.
He realized being upset wouldn’t help, so he gently calmed his daughter’s emotions, reassuring her to sleep, and promised that he wouldn’t let mom be taken away.
"Dad, when will you visit us?" Honey, although no longer crying, still sounded choked up.
Contemplating his upcoming important meetings, Ethan smiled, "When does Honey want dad to visit?"
"Is this weekend okay? Nina says she sees her dad every week. I want you to take me to Wonderland to play." She had been longing to go to Wonderland for a while, but the last time dad visited, mom left, so she hadn’t brought it up, always hoping for the whole family to go together.
"Alright, dad will definitely take you to Wonderland this weekend. Sleep well." Ethan assured his daughter, then reminded her, "Don’t tell your brother and mom about this yet. It’s a little secret between daddy and Honey. I’ll surprise them when I show up unexpectedly, okay?"
"Okay." Honey heard this and finally laughed. She liked having little secrets with her dad.
As Ruby Sullivan lay reading in bed, Ethan Sterling called, which she somewhat expected, answering, "Is our daughter asleep?"
"Yeah, she should be asleep now." Ethan sat in bed, scratching his messy hair, "So... you have a boyfriend now?"
Ruby closed her book, "Need to report to the ex-husband?"
Ethan was left speechless, gritting his teeth, "Of course not, as long as you’re happy." Having said that, he hung up, knowing he wouldn’t be happy about it at all!
Ruby heard the call end sound and felt annoyed, scrunching her nose at the black screen, thinking what’s the point of asking if you don’t care. She rolled her eyes, tossed her book to the bedside table, and grudgingly got under the covers, turning off the light.
Ethan Sterling stared blankly on his bed for a few minutes before getting up, tidying up quickly and heading out. When his secretary who organizes Ethan’s schedule arrived at her workstation and saw the CEO’s office door open, she was startled, thinking maybe the boss had forgotten to lock it.
If the CEO’s office were invaded by outsiders, the consequences could be significant, she cautiously approached and felt even more uneasy seeing Ethan so early today.
Ethan looked up at her, "Do I have any unmissable appointments on Friday?"
"Oh." The young woman quickly checked her phone, reporting, "Friday afternoon, you’re scheduled to play golf with Mr. Sinclair, and in the evening attend a charity banquet hosted by Elder Finn." Though they didn’t seem like proper business matters, they involved important people, thus holding high importance.
Ethan thought for a moment, "Book me a flight to Novaniel for Friday morning, and move all internal company meetings from Friday to these next two days. I’ll deal with those two appointments myself. Once you’ve settled the new schedule, send it to me."
"Yes, Mr. Sterling." The young woman responded and left.
After handling the documents, Ethan called Aidan Sinclair, "Available tonight? Let’s chat; I’m unavailable on Friday."
"Tell me what’s more important than playing golf with me?"
"With your golfing skills, it’s perfect for you to practice solo." Ethan bluntly mocked, "I’m flying to Meridia on Friday."
"What are you heading to Meridia at such a critical time for?" Aidan expressed some dissatisfaction, also probing, as though their partnership seemed solid, Ethan wouldn’t surprise him by flipping the table.
He’s always been a man cautious about danger even in safety.
Ethan understood Aidan’s digging and with some exasperation said, "The wife is about to run off with someone, isn’t that important?"
Aidan laughed heartily, "Important, important. Rest assured about Old Man Finn, I’ll handle it. You go properly chase the wife."
Ethan hung up and sneered, what are you gloating about? You don’t have a wife yet, talk when you do.
Meanwhile, Aidan put down the phone, looking at Dina Finn, "What qualifications do you have to negotiate with me?"
"I’ve let down Pippa, and won’t ask you to forgive the Finn Family, just please spare Pippa. I’ll do anything you ask." Dina said, standing up and kneeling before him.
Aidan raised an eyebrow, "What can you do?" He lifted her chin, "This body of yours doesn’t entice me."
Dina diverted her gaze, biting hard on her lower lip.
