Chapter 236 - 183: A Lively and Pure Person
He tried to speak again but found his words were still slurred. He instantly knew what was wrong. He must have injured the part of his brain responsible for organizing language.
Seeing him like this, tears streamed down Naomi Shaw’s face. "How could this happen? How? Why can’t I understand a single word you’re saying? Didn’t Leah say you’d be fine once you woke up?"
Thinking of Leah Monroe, Naomi Shaw quickly grabbed her phone to call her, only to see it was already ringing with an incoming call from Leah. She answered with trembling hands. "Leah, he’s awake, but why can’t I understand anything he’s saying?"
"So he’s awake?"
Leah asked from the other end of the line. "That’s actually why I’m calling you. He injured the part of his brain that controls language, so his speech will be a bit impaired for a while. It’ll recover soon, so don’t worry!"
"Really? I was so scared... I thought he had aphasia..."
Hearing Leah’s explanation, the knot in Naomi Shaw’s chest finally loosened. Though her voice still trembled, she wasn’t as tense and anxious as before.
Leah continued, "I didn’t want to tell you beforehand and make you worry needlessly. That’s why I waited until he was about to wake up. Since he’s awake, everything will be fine. From now on, you just need to take good care of him and help him recuperate. He can understand everything we’re saying, so you can explain the situation to him. He’s a doctor; he’ll definitely get it."
"Okay. Thank you, Leah. I really, really appreciate it."
Naomi Shaw thanked her profusely. She truly didn’t know how to express her gratitude at that moment. Leah chuckled. "It’s my duty as a doctor. You don’t have to keep thanking me. For now, you should go take care of your patient."
With that, Leah hung up. Naomi quickly relayed what Leah had just said to Julian Donovan. After listening, Julian just gave her a reassuring smile. He had already figured out what was happening to him, so he accepted it calmly.
’I woke up safely, and she’s completely unharmed. This is already the greatest gift heaven could have given me. This is more than enough.’
Naomi Shaw checked his vitals again; everything was healthy and normal. Only then did she sit back down by the bed. Neither of them spoke, simply gazing at each other in silence.
They had experienced the pain of a near-fatal separation and the joy of being reunited. ’Nothing in this world can ever tear us apart again,’ they each thought, looking into the other’s eyes. Julian Donovan couldn’t speak for the moment, but Naomi Shaw could read the emotion in his gaze. She squeezed his hand, looked at him with determination, and said, "That’s right. Nothing will ever separate us again!"
「The sky outside was gradually lightening.」
Julian’s heart ached for her. He gestured with his eyes toward the adjacent lounge, his gaze a clear message: ’Go get some rest!’
An unspoken understanding flowed between them; she understood everything he wanted to convey with just his eyes. She shook her head, refusing to go. "I’m not tired. I want to stay here with you."
His gaze softened. ’Be good. Go rest. I’m fine now!’
She was stubborn. "Even so, I’m staying here with you!"
In truth, she was afraid. Afraid that if she fell asleep, she would wake up to another disaster.
Julian was helpless. He glanced at the empty space on the bed beside him, his eyes inviting her, ’Then just lie down here with me for a while!’
The hospital director’s suite was, of course, luxurious. The large bed was spacious enough for several people. Naomi Shaw hesitated for a moment before finally getting into bed, lifting the covers, and lying down beside him. His hand was still attached to an IV drip, so she could only hug his arm carefully.
Just as she lay down, she seemed to remember something and sat up again. She leaned in and kissed his cheek, then planted another kiss on his pale lips. He seemed taken aback by her sudden display of affection; she was rarely this forward. His dark eyes stared at her without blinking. Feeling shy, she quickly lay back down beside him, and then she saw the corners of his mouth slowly curve into a handsome smile.
「Two days later, Julian Donovan finally recovered his ability to speak normally.」
The first words he spoke were, "I’m sorry."
Naomi Shaw was pouring him a glass of water, testing the temperature, when she heard him. She turned to look at him. "Why are you suddenly saying that?"
He was still weak, leaning against the headboard, but he held out his hand to her. She put down the glass, placed her hand in his palm, and sat on the edge of the bed. He looked at her, his eyes full of guilt. "I’m sorry for making you suffer so much because of me."
