Chapter 230 - 180: Release
Chapter 230 - 180: Release
The men Wendy Lowe brought suffered heavy casualties. Julian had charged in alone, but before he burst in, Naomi had already hidden the two children and called the police. Wendy Lowe didn’t have time to search for the children, so she hurriedly dragged Naomi out, sped toward the port in her car, and it was only then that Naomi realized today was the day they were going to arrest Sean Donovan.
However, she only managed to get one sentence out before Wendy Lowe hung up. On the other end, hearing her words brought Julian Donovan a small measure of relief. At least the two children hadn’t been captured and forced to witness this bloody scene.
This time, it was Sean Donovan’s turn to laugh. "Julian Donovan, are you going to take my life today, or hers?"
Wendy Lowe was his last pawn. Since Wendy Lowe had been out of town and not at The Donovan Residence, he had instructed her in advance to bring Naomi to him, no matter the cost. He had originally planned to take Naomi away with him, but now it looked like he would have to use her life to save his own.
Meanwhile, on the dock below, Caleb Rhodes and the others saw that Julian Donovan had been up on the deck for a while without making a move. Growing worried, they called him over the radio. "What’s going on up there?"
Julian Donovan viciously clenched his fists. "Sean Donovan has taken Naomi hostage!"
Felix Draper immediately started cursing. "Fuck! That despicable, shameless bastard, Sean Donovan! I’ll put a bullet in him myself!"
With that, he raised his gun and aimed at Sean Donovan on the deck, about to fire, but Caleb Rhodes stopped him. "Don’t be impulsive. Let’s wait until Naomi is here!"
Felix Draper resentfully lowered his gun. He then got on the radio to update the surrounding police officers, warning them not to make any sudden moves and informing them that the suspect had a hostage.
On the deck, Julian Donovan and Sean Donovan remained locked in a cold standoff until Wendy Lowe arrived with Naomi Shaw. Wendy, also covered in injuries, pressed a gun to Naomi’s head as she slowly walked up onto the deck.
Julian Donovan stood motionless, his face a grim mask, but a closer look would reveal his entire body was trembling. ’Of course, he would choose her life.’ He hated his own powerlessness at this moment, forced to watch helplessly as she was led past him.
Sean Donovan took Naomi Shaw from Wendy Lowe and pressed the gun to her forehead. "I’m sorry, Anna!"
Then he raised his eyes to Julian Donovan. "Julian Donovan, shouldn’t you be telling those cops and your buddies to give us some space?"
Julian Donovan ignored him, his eyes fixed on Naomi Shaw. "Are you hurt?"
"No, I’m fine..."
Naomi Shaw shook her head, giving him a reassuring smile. Their eyes locked, their gazes heavy with concern and tension for one another, completely ignoring Sean Donovan, Wendy Lowe, and the two bodyguards standing beside them.
Their intimate moment drove Sean Donovan mad with jealousy. He violently jerked Naomi Shaw back against him, breaking their shared gaze. With a cold snort, he spat a vicious threat, "As long as I draw breath, I will never let you two be together!"
Sean Donovan’s words plunged Naomi Shaw into despair. She pleaded with him, "Sean, please, just stop. If you keep this up, you’ll only sink deeper. There will be no turning back!"
"Stop?"
Sean Donovan laughed coldly. "Now that I’ve come this far, I have no intention of turning back!"
Naomi Shaw slowly turned to face Sean Donovan, the barrel of his gun still pressed to the center of her forehead. A chill rose from the depths of her heart. She looked up at him. "But Sean, why would you do this to me? On the way here, Wendy Lowe told me... the misunderstandings between Julian and me, and some of those incidents... she said you and her ordered Juliet Jennings to do it all. Is that true?"
On the way over, she had begged Wendy Lowe to let her go. Wendy Lowe had laughed as if it were the funniest joke she’d ever heard. "Let you go? After all the trouble our boss went through to break you and Julian Donovan up? Why would I ever do that?"
Naomi had been stunned. "You... what are you talking about? What do you mean, he went through all that trouble to break us up?"
She had only known about Sean Donovan’s involvement with drugs; she had no idea about the things he had done behind her back to break her up with Julian Donovan. She had never imagined he could be that malicious.
Wendy Lowe was only revealing all this because she had received instructions from Sean Donovan to do so. He was driven by a twisted mentality: if he couldn’t make her love him, then he would make her hate him to the very core.
So Wendy Lowe held nothing back. She revealed that she herself had planned the assassination attempt on Naomi and Joy. She also confessed that the only reason Sean Donovan had saved her at sea back then was because she was Julian Donovan’s woman—he wanted to use her to control and torment Julian.
