Chapter 243: We Can’t Take This Loss

Chapter 243: We Can’t Take This Loss

He furrowed his brow, his ears perked as he listened to the two of them talk. The more he listened, the more confused he got.

When he heard Guo Ying mention the matter, his temper flared. With a CLACK, he slammed his chopsticks and bowl down heavily.

"Exactly, Sister-in-law! Why are you admitting you were wrong? It’s not your responsibility at all! I’ve been going through the hospital’s duty rosters for the past two days, and it’s written in black and white that Yang Meiling was on duty the night of the incident. Her people handled the medication preparations! And now she turns around and blames you, making you the scapegoat? This is outrageous!"

The more he spoke, the more agitated he became. His face flushed red, and his hands were clenched into tight fists.

"I bet it was Yang Meiling and that woman, Qi! One wants to snatch your position, and the other is sucking up to the higher-ups. They teamed up to frame you! They’re the ones who messed up, but they’re making you take the fall? If the Regiment Commander found out, he’d never allow it! We can’t just take this lying down! We have to make a scene, fight back, and bring the truth to light!"

Song Qingya and Guo Ying exchanged a look, a flash of helplessness in their eyes.

Guo Ying pressed her lips together, almost laughing out loud but forcing herself to hold it in.

’This Li Gang,’ she thought, ’is so straightforward. He can’t hide anything and doesn’t beat around the bush. He just doesn’t understand all this roundabout hinting.’

’But his genuine indignation really is heartwarming.’

Song Qingya didn’t explain further, nor did she interrupt him.

She simply reached out slowly and placed a piece of vegetable in his bowl.

"Alright, that’s enough, Li Gang. Your food is getting cold, hurry up and eat. The dishes are about to be stone cold. If you don’t eat now, your stomach will act up again later. I have a plan in mind; things won’t just end like this. But some paths must be walked one step at a time. You can’t rush it."

Guo Ying also chimed in with a smile, trying to persuade him.

"Yes, yes, eating is what’s important. A hot meal is what nourishes you. Don’t worry about Dean Song. She’s a person with a plan, and she sees and thinks more deeply than any of us. Trust her, you can’t go wrong."

Li Gang looked from one to the other, his mouth moving as if he wanted to argue a bit more.

But seeing both of them looking so composed, he ultimately suppressed the urge.

He sighed, lowered his head, and silently poked at the rice in his bowl, muttering something under his breath.

"What’s so great about letting yourself get pushed around... You’re clearly in the right, so why back down... If I’d been there, I would’ve dragged those scoundrels out into the open..."

His voice was low, but everyone at the table heard him loud and clear.

Song Qingya and Guo Ying looked at each other and smiled.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was relaxed, and the aroma of the dishes filled the room.

But in the midst of this tranquility, a dark shadow flitted past the corner of the wall outside Guo Ying’s window.

The shadow moved swiftly along the base of the wall, making almost no sound.

The dark figure paused beneath the window, as if peering inside.

Then, it silently retreated, melting into the deep night as if it had never been there.

Qi Yuanyuan clutched her chest, hiding by the wall and gasping for breath.

Cold sweat beaded on her forehead and trickled down her cheek, but she didn’t bother to wipe it away.

She had heard every single word Cheng Peng had been shouting!

’It seems that in everyone’s eyes, Song Qingya has completely given in!’

’The woman whose medical skills once overshadowed her so much she couldn’t hold her head high was finally going to bow her head and admit she was wrong?’

A twisted sense of glee surged through Qi Yuanyuan’s heart.

She hunched over, turned quickly, and hurried away along the base of the wall.

’I have to get to Yang Meiling’s house immediately and tell her about this. The sooner, the better!’

Meanwhile, Song Qingya had just finished her meal. The bowls and chopsticks hadn’t been cleared away yet.

She fluidly extended two fingers and gently placed them on Guo Ying’s wrist.

The room instantly fell silent, leaving only the TICK-TOCK of the clock.

She quietly felt the fluctuations of Guo Ying’s pulse, her brow furrowing slightly. After a moment, she gave a gentle nod.

"Mm, the baby is quite stable. The fetal energy is strong, so don’t you worry."

She said softly.

"However, have you been sleeping poorly lately? You have some excess liver fire, and your pulse is floating and wiry. It’s likely caused by anxiety."

Guo Ying let out a cry of surprise.

She shot upright and affectionately grabbed Song Qingya’s hand, unwilling to let go.

"You can say that again! I’ve been a nervous wreck these past few days because of your situation. I’ve been having nightmares all night, tossing and turning. How could I possibly get a good night’s sleep? You tell me, is this because you scared me?"

She complained half-jokingly, but her eyes were filled with concern.

"You’re just too amazing, knowing what’s wrong with me just by feeling my pulse! It’s incredible!"

Song Qingya didn’t say much, just raised her eyes to look at her.

It was a gentle look that warmed Guo Ying’s heart.

Guo Ying stared at her, her eyes darting thoughtfully. She suddenly tugged on her arm, her voice lowering with a hint of bashfulness.

"Qingya... listen... I’m home all day with nothing to do, and I’m bored stiff. That knack you have for acupuncture... could you teach me a thing or two? I don’t expect to become an expert. I’m just thinking that if someone has a fever or a headache in the future, I could help relieve it with a needle or two. It’d be a useful skill to have, right?"

Song Qingya was taken aback, not expecting her to make such a request.

But she was only stunned for a moment before she smiled and agreed.

"Of course. If you want to learn, I’m happy to teach you. As long as you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll learn it sooner or later."

She paused, then added a serious reminder, "But in the beginning, you have to learn the acupoints and memorize the meridian charts. It’s quite tedious, and you have to memorize and practice every day. Can you handle that? You can’t just pick it up and put it down whenever you feel like it."

"I’m not afraid!"

Guo Ying’s eyes instantly lit up, her face filled with delighted surprise.

"As long as you’re the one teaching, I’m willing to endure any hardship! It’s enough for me that you’re willing to teach!"

Cheng Peng, who had been sitting to the side, had been listening intently to the whole conversation.

He suddenly slammed his palm on the table, making the teacup jump.

With a boisterous shout, he patted his chest and made a solemn promise to Song Qingya.

"Sister-in-law, you just focus on teaching her, guide her step-by-step! If she gets lazy and refuses to practice, I’ll personally supervise her! If she misses one day of practice, I’ll make her wash the dishes for a whole day! Just you watch!"

Guo Ying’s face flushed red. She gave him an exasperated push and chided, "You’re so annoying, who asked you to supervise me! What do you know! Mind your own business!"

The room was lively, filled with nonstop laughter.

Suddenly, the sound of urgent footsteps came from outside.

Immediately after, the voices of Xiao Yu and Ya’er rang out.

"Doctor Song!"

"Sister Qingya!"

The two of them practically burst in, hair disheveled and faces covered in sweat.

Song Qingya was startled by the sudden commotion. She quickly stood up and looked at them with a frown.

"Why are you two here? This is the family compound, it’s a long way from the clinic. What happened?"

Her voice suddenly grew tense. Her intuition told her that something major had happened.

Xiao Yu leaned against the doorframe, one hand on his knee, panting so hard he could barely speak.

"Doctor Song, a few of us heard there was trouble... that you’ve been suspended for investigation, and... and that you’re going to be fired! Is it true?!"

Ya’er had an impatient personality, always fiery and direct in her words and actions, never hesitating in the slightest.

She directly yanked Xiao Yu behind her.

Then she started talking in a rapid-fire burst, her words coming so fast she hardly seemed to breathe.

"Sister Qingya! What on earth is going on? The rumors outside are insane! I’ve heard several groups of people talking, saying you secretly used some medicine that left Dean Yuan’s life hanging by a thread, that he almost didn’t make it! Some are even saying you’re going to resign overnight, pack your bags, and run away, never to return!"
