Chapter 161: Your Daughter Is Also Pregnant
Chapter 161: Your Daughter Is Also Pregnant
Gideon flinched when Delilah pinched his cheeks hard enough to sting. He caught her wrists and gently pulled her hands away before rubbing at his sore face with a small grimace.
"You’re always talking about how dangerous pregnancy is in this world," he said, watching her carefully.
"The way you describe it, it sounds as if it is one of the biggest sins people would ever commit . So no, I don’t think it was unreasonable for me to assume you might want to get rid of the baby."
"That part isn’t unreasonable," Delilah admitted, her voice faltering as she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "But how did you jump from that to thinking I would abort our child?"
Her hand drifted to her stomach almost unconsciously. "I wouldn’t. It’s not as if this baby came from something I regret, or because I hate you so much that I don’t want to carry your child."
She stopped and let out a frustrated sigh, clearly realizing how awkwardly her words had come out.
"Ugh, what am I even saying? Sleeping with you was definitely one of the most stupid things I’ve ever done, but..."
"Oh, really?" Gideon leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, unable to resist. "We did it more than once, Delilah. A lot more than once. And if memory serves, there were plenty of times when you were the one begging me to keep going."
His grin widened. "So yes, maybe it was stupid. Which means you’re the stupid one."
Delilah puffed out her cheeks in a childish pout, her lips forming an adorably indignant duck face that immediately made Gideon smile.
More importantly, relief spread through him. He had imagined far worse reactions. Anger, panic, perhaps even a firm declaration that she wanted nothing to do with the pregnancy.
Instead, she seemed shocked and overwhelmed, but not unwilling.
"Ugh, you are so annoying," she muttered, placing both hands over her still-flat stomach as though their child could already hear her.
"I hope you won’t be the clone of your father. Childish, annoying, narcissistic, stupid, and far too pleased with himself."
"Hey, you should be praying they inherit my face and of course my fun and sharp personality."
"Look at me, I’m devastatingly handsome and enjoyable to be around. Your mother, the famous Ice Queen who rejected everyone, melted completely under my irresistible charm."
He reached toward her stomach with a proud grin. "At the very least, you need my face to survive in this world."
Delilah slapped his hand away at once, her cheeks flushing because, much as she hated to admit it, he was not entirely wrong.
"Fine," she said. "They can have your face, but they are getting my brain."
She narrowed her eyes on her stomach as though already laying down the rules. "You are going to be emotionally mature and intelligent, and whatever you do, don’t repeat your father’s mistakes. Don’t sleep with more than three people at once, and don’t become a shameless whore like your father."
Gideon stared at her in disbelief.
"First of all, you absolutely cannot say that to our child or any child. Second, if we have a daughter, I’m not letting her sleep with anyone before marriage. If we have a son, he can do whatever he wants as long as he takes responsibility."
Delilah shook her head immediately. "No. Son or daughter, they need to be loyal."
"I am loyal," Gideon said with complete confidence.
Delilah rolled her eyes. "As loyal as bonobos."
Gideon frowned. "What exactly is a bonobo?"
He straightened proudly. "Actually, I’m more like a lion. A king surrounded by his pride and many lionesses, exactly as nature intended."
That earned him such an exaggerated groan that he almost laughed.
When the sound faded, Delilah fell quiet. Her fingers continued to rest over her stomach, and her expression softened into something far more vulnerable.
For several moments she said nothing, simply staring downward as if she could already picture the tiny life growing inside her.
When she finally spoke, her voice was so gentle that it tightened Gideon’s chest.
"I just want you to grow up healthy and happy."
Her thumb moved slowly over her abdomen. "I think that’s enough."
The simplicity of that wish struck him harder than any dramatic declaration could have. Wasn’t that what every parent wanted?
To watch their child laugh, grow, and live a life untouched by as much pain as possible.
To protect them from every cruelty the world had to offer, even while knowing that no one, no matter how powerful or wise parents were, could never shield them from everything.
For the first time, Gideon truly understood the fear hidden beneath Delilah’s earlier words.
He lowered his gaze and nodded slowly.
"Yeah," he said, his voice softer than before. "Bringing a child into a world like this is terrifying and egoistic."
He turned toward her and offered a small, apologetic smile. "I understand now. I’m sorry."
Delilah frowned for a brief moment, not because she was angry, but because she disliked hearing him speak with that kind of hopelessness.
Then her expression warmed. She lifted one hand and cupped his cheek, her thumb brushing gently across his skin.
"That’s okay, Gideon. You’re going to be a wonderful father. I know you’ll work harder than anyone to provide everything our baby needs."
A faint smile curved her lips. "I believe in you."
The words eased a weight he hadn’t fully realized he was carrying. If Delilah believed in him, then perhaps he really could do this.
Gideon covered her hand with his own and leaned into her touch as though it were the one thing keeping him grounded.
"Thank you," he whispered, intertwining his fingers with hers. A quiet smile spread across his face as he looked at her and then at the hand resting over her stomach. "And it won’t just be me. It’s us, we’ll do this together."
Delilah couldn’t help the small smile that formed at the corner of her lips before she leaned forward and kissed him.
At first, it was a soft and happy kiss, filled with the quiet warmth that had settled between them. But the moment Gideon tilted his head and took control, it quickly turned into something hotter.
His teeth nibbled gently at her lower lip, silently asking her to open up to him. Delilah rarely denied him when he kissed her like this.
For all her cold demeanor and sharp words, there was a softer side of her that had long since surrendered to his charm, exactly as he always liked to boast.
She parted her lips slightly. That was all the invitation Gideon needed.
His tongue slipped into her mouth, exploring slowly and thoroughly, brushing against her teeth before tangling with her tongue in an intimate rhythm.
It didn’t take long for his hands to slide to her waist and pull her closer. In one smooth motion, he lifted her onto his lap until she was straddling him completely.
Delilah’s arms wrapped around his neck. For a brief moment, her expression suggested she wanted to protest, but no words came. Instead, she melted further into the kiss.
Their mouths moved more desperately now. Saliva mixed between them and rolled down the corner of her jaw. She let out a soft moan without breaking the kiss, clearly enjoying it just as much as he was.
"Hnn... ahh..."
Gideon threaded his fingers through her long blonde hair and gently pushed her closer, deepening the kiss even more.
Their tongues danced together, lips sucking and parting only to meet again, neither of them willing to stop.
"Haah..."
Eventually, Delilah pulled away, though a thin strand of saliva still stretched between their mouths before snapping.
Her breathing was ragged from the lack of oxygen, and her flushed cheeks made her look softer than usual.
"Just... stop here, okay?" she said, resting her forehead against his. "I don’t think it’s safe to have sex this early in pregnancy."
Then she narrowed her eyes slightly. "Also, how did you know I was pregnant?"
Gideon smirked at once. "If I told you I have X-ray vision, would you believe me?"
Delilah frowned and flicked him on the nose.
"No. But I’ll trust what you said because... You’re right. I’m late this month."
Gideon nodded in understanding.
The system had already informed him several days ago, and he had spent that entire time wondering how to tell her.
Now that the truth was finally out and she had accepted it far better than he expected, a great weight had lifted from his chest.
But there was still one more thing. One more truth that had been haunting both him and Summer.
Since Delilah was in such a good mood, perhaps her reaction would not be too terrible.
"Delilah, I need to tell you one more thing..."
"Yeah?" she hummed softly while playing with the collar of his shirt, clearly content. "What is it?"
Gideon took a slow breath.
"Summer is pregnant too and yes, I’m the father."
