Chapter Forty-Four
Chapter Forty-Four
Zach.
I pulled her toward my car and opened the passenger door for her.
“We can’t leave!”
“Oh yeah we can,” I said.
“Those guys are going to notice that we’re gone.”
“Like I care,” I said. I motioned for her to get in.
Reluctantly, she got in.
I drove away from the bar.
“Where are we going?”
“To heaven, baby girl. I’m going to give you what you’ve been asking for since the moment you walked into the bar.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief. My hands went to her thigh, giving it a light squeeze, making her bare skin even hotter.
“Oh my god, I don’t think I can do this,” she breathed.
“Do what, baby girl?”
Suddenly, she seemed really nervous. I stared back at her. She shook her head. “I can’t do this. I can’t just walk out of the bar with a complete stranger and let him do things to me. I guess… I’m not wired that way.”
I smiled at her. Then I reached out for her hand, pulled it to my lips, and kissed it.
“I know, baby girl. For you, passion and trust come side by side. You can’t be sexual with a guy unless you completely trust him.”
She nodded.
“Then it’s a good thing, I’m not just any guy,” I said, winking at her.
She grinned at me. “Who are you exactly?”
“Eight years ago, I was your brother. Now, I’m your boyfriend,” I said. And it felt so damn good to say that. I couldn’t drive any faster. The motel I saw on the way to the bar seemed like a million miles away. I couldn’t wait to get her to bed, be with her again.
I would think about the damn excuses to tell our parents and the rest of our relatives in the morning.

It was six in the morning when I parked my car in front of our aunt’s mansion. Blaire was fidgeting nervously in the passenger seat. I took her hand in mine and gave it a soft kiss.
“Relax, baby girl,” he said. “It will be fine.”
“I don’t know what to say to them,” she said.
“The truth,” I said.
Her eyes widened.
“You’re an adult now, Blaire. And you’re an extremely beautiful, sexy woman. You already told them you have a boyfriend. Your boyfriend followed you here to Miami, and you spent the night in his hotel room. No need to say any more than that.”
“You were gone too,” she said.
“Yeah, I’ll just say that I got bored in the bar. I have a friend who lives in town, and I decided to visit. I won’t come back until before the luncheon, so they won’t suspect anything.”
She took a deep breath. “This sucks sometimes.”
I stared at her for a long moment. I totally got what she was trying to say. I felt the same way. Last night, I wanted to shout out to our cousins and that dimwit Ricky that Blaire was mine. I wanted to tell the world about us. Because Blaire deserved a proud boyfriend. She didn’t deserve to be hiding like this.
I leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the lips. “You know if I had a choice, I would walk out there with my arms around you. I would be shouting to the whole world that Blaire Stewart is my girlfriend. She belongs to me, now and always.”
She wound her arms around my neck and hugged me. “I know. I wish I could too that to you too.”
“Someday, baby girl. We’ll figure this out.”
Finding a solution to our situation sounded like an urgent matter to me now. But no matter which angle I look at it, I couldn’t see a solution that would end up not hurting her, shaming her. I couldn’t care less if they call me a sister-fucker, but for people to brand her for sleeping with her brother, regardless if he wasn’t really related to her legally or by blood, was unforgivable for me.
She pulled away from me, her eyes a little teary. “I won’t let this scathe you. Let me figure out a plan.”
She nodded. “I trust you.”
I kissed her forehead. “Now, go. I’ll see you at the luncheon.”
Before she stepped out of the car, I pulled her to me once again and gave her a kiss on the lips. It was like I couldn’t get enough of this girl. “Let’s sleep at the shed tonight.”
“Why?”
I shrugged. “I just want to hold you in your sleep.”
She raised a brow. “That’s all?”
“Yep. That’s all.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Why not? Have I not proven myself to be completely trustworthy?”
“Not when there’s a bed nearby,” she replied cheekily.
I laughed. “You got me. Anyway, I promise to behave, if you promise not to seduce me. And good luck with that, because I find you hot and sexy no matter what you wear.”
She laughed. “You flatter me too much. I’ll reward you for that later. But for now, we have a bunch of relatives that we need to face.” She leaned forward to give me a kiss on the lips again. “I’ll see you later.”
“I can’t wait,” I said.
She stepped out of the car, and I watched her disappear inside the gate before I drove off. I was going to go back to the motel and sleep for a couple of hours before I return so it wouldn’t look like we were together last night.
I came back in time for the luncheon. Only Damien asked where I spent the night. I stuck with my story of visiting a friend in the city. Other than that, nobody seemed to have suspected anything.
Our parents kept a good show of looking like the ideal couple who are still in love with each other. They laughed with their relatives and pretended they couldn’t get enough of each other. But nothing else could be farther than the truth. Their marriage was not only broken, but it was also shattered. It started the day Blaire was conceived.
Finding out the truth had been hard for me. I know that if Blaire knew the truth, it would not only break her heart, but it would also change her life. If I could shield her from it all, I would.
It was time to go. Finally! I couldn’t wait for this whole thing to be over. Having to keep my distance from Blaire is killing me. I couldn’t wait to get back home, spend the night in the shed where we can be free to touch each other, be together the way we deserve.
On the parking lot, while I waited for Blaire to join me, Ben came up to me.
“Hey, it was really nice having you back,” he said.
“It was nice to be back.” I grinned at him.
He stared at me for a while and then he smiled ruefully.
“What?” I asked.
He shook his head. “You’re welcome here any time, okay? I want you to remember that. You were my best bud when we were growing up. No matter what the court said, you’re still my cousin.”
I was surprised with what he said. I wasn’t expecting that, but it was nice to hear.
“Thank you. It’s good to know.”
He nodded. “If you need anything at all, even if you need somebody to talk to… you know to clear your head, or anything at all… anything, you can call me, okay?”
“O-kay.”
He gave me a pat on the shoulder. “If… if my uncle gets to be too much. Or things get too weird or too bad, I’m here for you, okay?”
I stared at him for a moment, studying his expression. He was acting way too weird. It was almost as if he wanted to say something else but couldn’t decide what or how to.
Does he know something that he couldn’t tell me?
Are we getting too obvious?
