Chapter 304 - 179 Made a scene at the Hallow Clan.
Hailey Hill never imagined that one day she would fall to such a state.
Nor could she imagine why Atlas Hallow would do this, having her thrown out without a word of explanation.
She couldn’t see him at all. As she left, the coat she wore was luckily new, and she sold it at a second-hand luxury store. It had a coin purse, and she sold that too, the only thing she took from Atlas’ house. The money she got was pitifully small, less than half the original price for a coat she wore less than twice.
The coin purse was completely new. She had countless ones, always getting one in every color as soon as a new model came out – and it also sold for half the price. As she walked out of the second-hand store, she realized how terrifying life could be.
The weather was so cold she couldn’t stay outside for long. After buying a down jacket to drape over herself, she found one of the many budget hotels that filled the streets and checked in. Even though the daily room rate was less than three hundred USD, she couldn’t afford it for long.
Fortunately, the phone bill was paid well in advance, so she could call her mother, whom she hadn’t seen in many years. She was all the way in the United States.
For a long time, Hailey Hill hadn’t even touched cash, using only bank cards. The things she bought were expensive, and it was impossible to pay with a wad of cash. But now all her bank cards were frozen, every one in her name locked up, not a cent could she withdraw.
Now there was only that thin stack of cash in her pocket. Hailey couldn’t tell how long it would last.
How did things suddenly become like this?
Did Atlas Hallow encounter some financial problem? But that couldn’t be, if there was a problem he would have at least said something.
Hailey Hill paced in the small room, on the brink of emotional collapse, but she needed to make sense of things before she completely broke down.
Just as her brain felt like it was about to split open, her phone rang.
A long-distance call from the United States.
It was her mother calling, and to Hailey Hill, it was like seeing a savior.
For all these years, she hasn’t had much interaction with the outside world; everything was arranged by her mother since she was fifteen.
"Why hasn’t the money been transferred yet?" Her mother’s voice was already very displeased on the other end of the line.
"Mom, I can’t get the money right now. I’ve been thrown out by Atlas, and I have no idea what’s happening..." At this sudden phone call from her mother, however distant she felt, Hailey immediately burst into tears, as if finding a lifeline.
"Thrown out?" Her mother couldn’t believe it. With what she knew about Atlas, it was impossible for him to throw her daughter out after everything she’d endured for his sake. What on earth happened?
"What did you do to make him angry?" There must be a reason. Mother Hill’s mind worked quickly. Atlas Hallow was a big financial backer; their whole family depended on him for a good life. Offending him was not an option.
"I don’t think so..." Hailey tried hard to recall. She rarely got a chance to see him, so how could she have angered him?
Mother Hill harshly rebuked her over the phone: "He definitely wouldn’t kick you out for no reason. What did he say?" Hurry and think about what happened. Without worries, you just needed to figure out how to please your benefactor, and yet, you couldn’t even do that, truly a fool.
Through the years, she had sent so much money to the Hill Family that Hailey couldn’t keep track. But this kind of result made Hailey a bit angry: "Aren’t you worried about me getting kicked out and possibly ending up homeless?" Her mother likely didn’t have much money left because she was addicted to gambling; it was the only thing she loved. Who knows if all that money sent over the years was saved by her mother?
Hiding in the small motel, even with the strong heating, she was shivering from the cold. This chill came from the depths of her heart.
She hated such cramped spaces, poor in air quality, lacking fresh fruit, bird’s nest, top skincare products, and fashion catalogs for her to choose from. She was trapped in a terrible cycle of fear that losing this lifestyle would age her instantly.
This thought kept revolving in her mind, distorting her entire demeanor terribly.
Hailey felt she needed to get money quickly to maintain her standard of living and the appearance she had carefully maintained over the years. It was her only remaining dignity. Without those expensive maintenance products, she would quickly age like those entering menopause, with wrinkled skin, sagging chest, and loose muscles, quite unbearable to see.
"Don’t do anything for now, wait until I return." Her mother’s voice changed, she was anxious too. Atlas was indeed their golden financier, and offending him was out of the question. Things had escalated to the point where she had to personally return.
While Hailey was troubled by these things, Charlotte Miller was already beginning her pleasant times.
Because after her insistence, Atlas agreed to let her come back to work. It was her first day returning to the Hallow Clan.
"Check if anything else is needed?" Atlas Hallow held Charlotte’s hand as they walked into her office. Daniel Parker had already tactfully returned to his office. Recently, his boss and the boss’s wife were very affectionate, like sweet as honey. He thought it better not to be a bystander and just tactfully withdrew.
Charlotte glanced around her office, which hadn’t changed much, but in the guest area was a fruit platter with fresh fruits she loved, as well as delicate pastries and various nuts, from almonds to pecans and pumpkin seeds, some of which she could hardly name. She came to work, not eat. Wasn’t this a bit much?
"Besides me, who else would be in your office?" Atlas easily saw through her confusion. This young girl really thought too much.
"Alright, no one else would see, but this isn’t disciplined. No employee’s office would have such things. Don’t let it happen again." His thoughtfulness filled Charlotte’s heart with a hint of sweetness, yet she adhered to her principles.
"Your most important task is this." Atlas’s big hand reached for her slightly rounded belly. It was a small curve, but still filled him with joy, the perfect result of their union.
"President Hallow, how much are you paying me for this job?" Charlotte looked at Atlas unpleased. He really ruined the mood, she had just felt so touched a moment ago, and with that one sentence, he swept away all her feelings.
"What more reward do you want?" Atlas kissed Charlotte’s small face. Was there something she was dissatisfied with?
"Nothing, just joking. President Hallow can go back to work, I have things to do too." Charlotte pushed Atlas out the door. She had her tasks to attend to, not wanting to be entangled with him endlessly in the office.
After Atlas left her office, Charlotte sat down, turned on the computer, and began her workday. For some reason, Ethan Baird had never contacted her again, saying there was something tricky going on at home, but he didn’t explain what it was, and Charlotte didn’t press him on it. It must be serious, and when he gets back, he’ll naturally tell her.
In the meantime, while she couldn’t help with other things, at least she planned to handle matters at Ethan’s company well, especially since she had a stake in it.
Meanwhile, an unexpected guest arrived at the Hallow Clan’s reception desk.
"I want to see Atlas Hallow." Hailey looked from a distance at her own mother, too afraid to come any closer.
She didn’t know if her mother flew back quickly because Atlas Hallow had cut off all their financial sources or because she was concerned about her getting kicked out. But thankfully, she came back, as Hailey truly didn’t know how to handle these matters any longer.
"Do you have an appointment?" The receptionist looked at this middle-aged woman, whose skin looked well-maintained and who wore a burgundy fur coat, sporting a luxurious appearance, thus politely inquiring.
"Arrange it now." Hailey’s mother’s tone wasn’t friendly. After a grueling flight of over a dozen hours, she wanted to ask why Atlas would kick her daughter out without even a severance pay.
This? Is there such an arrangement? Seeing Mother Hill’s fierce demeanor, the receptionist still phoned the secretary’s office to ask Assistant Parker. In case of any issues, none of them could bear the consequences.
"Please wait a moment." The receptionist smiled politely. Mother Hill turned back to look at Hailey, her expression souring further.
She couldn’t understand what her daughter was afraid of. After being with a man for ten years and then thrown out, without a penny and already causing a scene at Hallow, yet still being timid and hesitant. Once a man changes his mind, he won’t return. Now it’s about seeing how much money can be gotten, and not understanding such reasoning leads to deserved downfall.
