Chapter 282 - 168 Who is more capable?
Jared Foster didn’t even lift his eyelids to look at Atlas Hallow, his mouth twisting as if incredibly bored, he casually replied, "Do you think he’s more capable than me?"
Atlas Hallow looked at Jared’s twisted mouth and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
He clearly controlled the entire city’s underground network, capable of shaking the entire city’s gray industries, but sometimes he behaved as petty as a child. Could he really care and fuss over Flower Snake helping him uncover this matter?
Who is Flower Snake anyway? They weren’t even on the same trajectory, comparing was utterly meaningless, wasn’t it?
Atlas Hallow sipped his tea, his lips opening slightly as he spoke slowly, "Whether his capabilities are greater or not, you are still Jared Foster; this era belongs to you."
Jared’s expression still didn’t improve, holding a small celadon dish, with delicately made candied lotus seeds inside, as beautiful as an art piece. As Atlas Hallow extended his long arm to grab a lotus seed, Jared pulled it back and handed it to the housekeeper.
"Put it in my room." Jared’s voice was pleasant, like the gentle softness of winter snow, yet carried a slight chill that instantly awakened the senses.
"It’s not like you’re eating golden lotus seeds; aren’t you being a bit too stingy?" What’s up with Jared recently? He became unpredictable, even harder to understand than before. It’s like dealing with a spoiled child who needs a good scolding. But Jared wasn’t as simple as he seemed, and if it came to a fight, he might not win.
None of it was clear to see, but he knew deep down Jared was genuinely a ruthless character; otherwise, the Foster Family wouldn’t maintain such a status even now.
Jared glanced at Atlas Hallow and then told the housekeeper, who was about to head upstairs, "Bring down what he wants to eat."
The housekeeper quickened his pace and hurried up the stairs.
"Not finding Ella Johnson has nothing to do with your capabilities. I’ve said all along she’s hidden in spots we never considered." Everyone’s mind has blind spots; people share strange magnetic fields. After all these years, Jared and he have likely thought similarly, so it wouldn’t cross their minds that Hailey Hill would take Ella Johnson in.
"So where is she hiding? Could it be at your place?" Jared sipped his tea, a hint of curiosity in his eyes as he looked at Atlas Hallow.
Where could she be hiding? He had searched nearly every conceivable hiding spot in the city without a trace, so he was quite curious where she was hidden, where he couldn’t find her.
"Strictly speaking, she’s hidden on my territory." Atlas Hallow’s face grew a bit colder, his tone becoming serious.
"The house Ella Johnson stays at is under my property." The thought of Hailey Hill sheltering Ella Johnson actually brought relief to Atlas’s heart. He had always wanted to repay Hailey Hill, to rid himself of that guilt shadowing his life. Unexpectedly, Hailey had swept away his guilt all on her own, leaving nothing.
Jared looked disparagingly at Atlas Hallow; such a simple mistake shouldn’t fall on Atlas Hallow, shouldn’t it?
"So what are you going to do about your opponent?" Jared asked indifferently.
"Deal with it? Just send her away..." Atlas Hallow spoke carelessly, no one could know the oppression and anger in his heart.
He simply didn’t want to see Hailey Hill again, to remain strangers, never crossing paths again.
"Never thought you could be so soft-hearted." Jared sipped his tea, a hint of ruthlessness in his eyes, but it was Hallow Family’s affair, and he didn’t want to meddle too much. However, without eliminating the root cause, fears lingered of endless future troubles.
Soft-hearted, huh? Atlas Hallow dimly smiled, taking a bite of the candied jujube from the dish, trying to ease the bitterness in his heart. The fragrance of sweet osmanthus honey dispersed as he watched the snow falling in the courtyard and slowly said, "Consider it a thank you; she brought the most important person in my life to me."
Hailey Hill would never know she survived because of Charlotte Miller’s existence.
As the two continued their conversation, the housekeeper walked steadily and swiftly down the stairs, holding a small brocade box. He approached Jared and Atlas Hallow, respectfully placing the brocade box on the table, and then opened the lid.
