Chapter 244 - 157 Fierce Charlotte Miller
On this kind of morning, Charlotte Miller didn’t stay in the apartment.
With what happened to Luna Miller, she couldn’t rest peacefully. Knowing her own health was still okay without major issues, she got up, bundled herself up tightly, and hurried to the hospital.
She asked the doctor about Luna’s condition. Although it was very bad, at least she was still alive, right? But her immune system was already weakened and had to rely on large doses of medication to resist infections. Plus, she was pregnant, but this baby could not be born because keeping the baby meant no medication, and without medication her condition would worsen and not improve. The most critical part was that she already showed signs of a threatened miscarriage.
Luna was in a dazed state all day yesterday, and the doctor informed her that surgery had to be done today because medication was administered yesterday. As Luna’s only relative in the country, she signed and agreed.
She didn’t inform the parents far away in the United States because telling them wouldn’t help, and traveling back would only add sorrow.
She had already made up her mind to nurse Luna back to health, even if she had to tie her up and take her to the United States.
If Luna continued to mess around like this, how many more years could her body hold up?
Promiscuity is the deadliest. Men don’t suffer losses; it’s always women who do. Those men feel good for a moment, but it’s women who have to undergo abortion surgery eventually. Doesn’t she understand such an obvious truth, not knowing how to protect herself?
The thermos in her hand contained red date chicken soup. After surgery, the body is particularly weak. She had instructed the auntie yesterday to have it stewed by this morning. The auntie thought she wanted to eat it, so served her a bowl in the morning, but looking at that clear yellow chicken soup made her nauseous. Her appetite had become strange, changing from time to time. Eventually she ate a bowl of white porridge mixed with a small piece of fermented bean curd and found it quite delicious.
The auntie muttered about it lacking nutrition, but still quickly packed up the chicken soup.
Her boots stepped on the snowy ground, producing faint, crisp creaking sounds, so quiet it seemed only she could hear them. This time of year the hospital was especially crowded, possibly due to bad weather; many people seemed to be coughing, so she wore a mask consciously, afraid of being infected. Luckily, Atlas Hallow arranged a deluxe hospital room for Luna.
Money really can make the world go ’round. The private room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a sofa, a table, and even a small bed for accompanying relatives. Charlotte hired a caregiver there yesterday, but today was the surgery, so she had to come personally.
Passing through the bustling crowd, the strong smell of disinfectant filled the air, getting worse by the restrooms, forcing Charlotte’s stomach to churn. She quickened her pace to move forward, feeling better once in the elevator. The special care unit was on the fifteenth floor, where there were fewer people and it was less uncomfortable.
When the elevator reached the fifteenth floor, she headed straight to Luna’s room. After staying to accompany her for the surgery, she also had to go to Ethan’s place to handle some tasks; in a few days, the holiday break would start, and after the year ended, the most intense work would formally begin.
No matter how good her relationship with Ethan was, she still had to submit the year’s summary. She had already reviewed all the big and small data in her mind, so preparing this document might not take too much time. It’s just that her physical condition now made her easily tired, slower than before.
But it’s only these couple of days.
While thinking, she opened the door and walked into the room; Luna was already awake.
Her eyelids were swollen, perhaps having undergone eyelid surgery, making her eyes look larger than before. But after taking too much medication and too many IV drips, the swelling was quite alarming. Her nose had deviated and collapsed a bit, looking as if it had been pinched, unable to return to its formerly high and straight shape.
Hopefully, after this experience, she’d learn to take care of herself. After all, she was only in her twenties; she couldn’t just ruin herself like this.
Putting down the bag she was carrying, she took out some food: "Luna, do you want to eat something? I had auntie prepare chicken soup, and there are a few soft rice balls, your favorite salmon flavor, and some dumplings." She didn’t bring too much, just a little of each to look exquisite, because Luna shouldn’t eat too much now.
