Chapter 275 – ‘The’ Maya

Chapter 275 – ‘The’ Maya

Maya wanted to know more about how Dannie and Chiyo got together and even engaged after she left with Sophia over a year ago, so it had been story time for her and Sophia for most of the afternoon, while the couple explained what happened and how a certain blonde was once more the catalyst to get things between oblivious idiots going.

“By the way, why are you a tiger?” They had taken a break from talking about the engaged couple when Dannie became a little curious about the striped girl. As she wasn’t part of the meeting from the start, she missed that part of the conversation. “I would’ve remembered you being a tiger back when you arrived with our adventurer friends and your wolf. Everyone knows what tigers are, after all. Chiyo also referred to you as a demon, too.”

“…” Maya accidentally took some damage there.

“Ahh.” Sophia scratched her cheek. “Cutting a long story short, I was dealing with a lot of things back then after recovering from the lowest of lows, and I wasn’t in my true form for reasons.”

“I see.” She nodded a few times. “I guess being a tiger comes with all sorts of extras.” The dog-girl wasn’t curious enough to pry more than that.

“Very true.” It certainly wasn’t a lie to agree with that.

“Aside from that, you two are a thing as well, right?” Dannie already dropped the topic again and looked at the two. “The Maya finally also developed an interest in romance, but being the over-the-top girl she is, it had to be a member of the royal family of this nation, huh?”

“Just what was your reputation in this place?” The blonde looked at her cat.

"Could you stop calling me the Maya?!” She glared at the dog-girl instead.

"You're lucky Steph or Ari aren't here, or else this would be your new nickname.” Sophia tried her best to hold back a laugh.

“That is SOO true.” She reacted with a big nod.

“Anyway, yes, I am dating the Maya.” There was no way the blonde wouldn’t use this opportunity. “For about as long as you two are, too.” She then went ahead and gave them a short and abridged summary of how it happened.

“I’m considering a breakup, though.” The white-haired cat disliked that a lot.

“Wait, you can match Maya’s sass?!” Chiyo was impressed by her reply. “I didn’t think that was possible!”

“Far from always, but I have my moments.” Sophia smiled at her. “She’s still the queen of sass.”

“That’s still plenty impressive!” It didn’t make her think any less of it.

“Nah, I’d say she’s too good at times already.” Maya shook her head.

“Not surprised about you saying that.” Dannie smiled at her.

“…”

“Wait, if you’re together for about as long as we are, does that mean…” Chiyo suddenly got excited about something.

“No.” Sophia and Maya shook their head. “We’re not engaged yet.” It wasn’t hard for them to guess what she was going for.

“Well, the way you two sync up rivals old married couples already, though.” Dannie smiled at them.

“If that was the benchmark, I’d have many wives…” Sophia just scratched her cheek. “Maya would have a few extra ones, too. Syncing up is just a general talent we have.”

“You are extra talented at it, though.”

“Not wrong.” The tiger couldn’t argue with Maya’s claim.

“Even so, I didn’t overhear the yet part!” The orange cat-girl happily clapped her hands.

“Ahh…”

“What are the plans?” She only got more excited.

“There are no immediate plans.” Maya shook her head. “At least do direct ones. We’ve talked about it before, and Sophia talked me into having a bigger wedding once we get to it because it's been a dream of hers, and I'm okay with either, but that’s about it, right?” She then looked at her tiger for confirmation.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“Yup, it’s definitely on my list of things I want to experience, but it hasn’t become a priority goal just yet.” She simply nodded. “Me being a tiger makes it a lot more complicated and involved. According to the Queen, Kira, it would likely turn into a royal wedding because that’s to be expected, especially after I became so well-known in the capital. I do want a bigger wedding, but that’s a bit much, so I first have to come up with something to deal with that besides just outright denying it."

“Though, Kira being who she is, I’m not 100% certain she didn’t just say that to simply mess with us.”

“Very true.” Sophia could easily see that being the case as she agreed with her cat-girl.

“You talking about our Queen like that is amazing!” Dannie looked at Maya with sparkling eyes. “You really are the Maya!”

“I hate you.”

“That being said, I’m not entirely against Kira’s suggestion of a double wedding together with Anna and Ari. Imagine how pretty all four of us together would look!” Sophia ignored their bickering as she started smiling. “Maybe it’s possible to have two different events. One actual wedding with how we want it to be and then a public one where we let Kira do her thing.”

“Mhmm.” Maya paused for a second. “I like the idea of doing our thing first. A royal double wedding could be quite the event, too. Letting Kira do her thing sounds incredibly dangerous, though.”

"A good point!” The tiger nodded a few times. “We definitely would have to put a few regulations for her in place.”

“Sounds good!”

“You two aren’t even engaged yet and did more marriage planning just now than we ever did!” Chiyo raised her voice. “What’s wrong with you?”

“Yeah, we’re an odd couple and do lots of things backward.” Maya scratched her cheek.

“You should see how often we talk about children~.” Sophia decided to not be helpful.

“You’re talking about having children already?!” The orange cat got even louder.

“At least once a month, yes~.” The blonde smiled at her.

“Are we doing something wrong?” Chiyo then looked at Dannie with a questioning expression.

“No, I think they’re doing things out of order there.” The dog-girl lightly shook her head.

“Yes, we’re definitely the odd ones.” Maya and Sophia perfectly synced up again.

“…”

“Oh, but speaking about proposing!” The tiger then looked at her cat-girl with sparkling eyes.

“E-EHH?!” Chiyo and Dannie let out a squeal.

“I’m not going to do that now.” She slowly shook her head as she stared at them.

“Aww…” The two sounded rather disappointed.

“What’s up?” Maya sounded a lot more relaxed.

“Once that day comes, I want to do the proposing! You initiated almost all the firsts in our relationship, and while I’m extremely happy and grateful for that, I want to do something, as well! Proposing is on my list of things I’d love to do, too!”

“Didn’t you want to be the first one to get pregnant, too?” Maya tilted her head. “Once the children topic becomes more real, I mean.”

“You know my talent when it comes to magic!” She started pouting. “I’ll probably find a way to mess up and accidentally get you pregnant instead while using the blessing magic thingy together with you! If that happens, all the first would go to you!”

“…” Maya paused for a second. “Uhh…” That managed to throw her off track.

“Technically,” Dannie scratched her cheek. “I think that would mean you’d be the first to get her pregnant, so…”

“True!” The blonde hadn’t thought about that.

“I don’t mind taking that role for our potential second child in many years, and might even be looking forward to it, but could we not talk about casually getting me pregnant by accident like that?" Maya slowly shook her head while staring at her tiger.

“Fair complaint.” Sophia, Chiyo, and Dannie had nothing to add there.

“Thank you very much for understanding.” She rolled her eyes in response.

“You two are absolutely amazing, though!” Chiyo smiled at the couple. “To be able to talk so openly about those topics in front of strangers!”

“We just don’t have a filter.” Sophia stifled another laugh.

“Also, no, you two are amazing!” Maya shook her head instead. "Sophia and I are all talk and no bite, while you two actually went ahead and got engaged! That is soo much more impressive!”

“Incomparably so!” Sophia agreed with her. “In fact, you’re my new heroes!”

“I wouldn’t go that far, but I have a lot of admiration for you two.” Maya nodded a few times.

“T-Thank you.” The couple got rather bashful over that.

“By the way, I’m going to be extremely upset if I don’t get invited to the wedding.” The white-haired cat suddenly sounded a little more serious. “Whenever that day happens, of course.”

“Naturally!” The two had no intention of doing that.

“Good.” She went back to smiling. "You'll definitely be getting one for ours, too."

“Both of them~.” Sophia smirked at her partner before giving the other couple a thumbs-up.

“I, uhh, I’m not sure if I’m mentally prepared to attend a royal wedding.” Dannie scratched her cheek.

“Yes!” Chiyo felt the same. "We'd also need plenty of time beforehand because it's a bit of an ordeal to get to the capital, where I assume it'd happen. Doable, though."

“It would be an honor to attend the regular wedding!”

“Yesyes!” The orange cat agreed with her partner and vigorously nodded.

“Unfortunately, being too far from the capital won’t be an excuse for you~.” Sophia's expression turned playful.

“What does that mean?” Dannie looked confused. “The capital is at least a month away from here.”

“Much longer even if it’s during a less favorable season.” Chiyo also couldn’t follow her.

“Nope~.” The tiger only got even more playful.

“I think you’re about to find out what we've been up to ever since leaving this place last year. I want to apologize in advance.” Maya felt sorry for what was about to happen to their common sense.

“Have any of you heard about portals before?” Sophia jumped right into it.

“The what now?” They obviously hadn’t.

Afterward, the blonde took a big sip from the drink Dannie had served her earlier, a delicious apple juice, because she knew the following conversation would take a while.
