BLS 7: Breaking the Last

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Chloe Regens

I swiped my phone screen, looking at my photos with Xander. It hurts. He's my first boyfriend, and we have to break up like this. I sipped my drink and felt the burning sensation as it passed my throat.

"Are you okay?" Rose said as she sat beside me.

"I just went through a crazy breakup," I answered honestly while still looking at our photos.

"I'm sorry to hear that. I—"

"He cheated on me with my best friend," I cut her off.

"He's the real definition of an asshole and a sick bastard then" she said, and I chuckled. I turned my head to her.

"Do you still believe in fairytales?" I asked.

"I was a believer... it turns out, life is not that simple," she said.

"You and Max already got together when I met you guys," I said, and she shook her head.

"We had a rough love story after that... I called it quits for good and then he suddenly changed"

"I thought you and Max..."

"It took twelve years, Chloe. Twelve years of nothing real between him and me. All he ever wanted was to fool around, but that's not me." She looked at me, and I couldn't believe Max had treated her like that.

"He's just plain mean."

"Indeed. But it's already in the past, and we're happy right now," she smiled.

"How did you guys, one by one, start to change your ways? Last time I checked, they were just messing around with girls," I said, and Rose chuckled.

"They found the right person, someone who could tame them. If you look at Luke and Hailey, he may hate the idea of love, but they've figured it out in their own special way," Rose said.

"I thought Xander was my prince charming. I thought we were going to be happy," I sighed as I glanced back at my phone.

"I mean, he's not the one for you; don't settle here. Have a bit of fun, Chloe," Rose said sincerely and I smiled at her.

"What's it like to know if you've already found the one?" I asked Rose.

"When I first met Max, I was drawn to him. We developed feelings that are hard to put into words, and even us can't fully understand it. We just care deeply for each other, but I know I fell for him little by little."

"I see. The strangest thing is that I didn't shed a tear when I broke up with Xander. I knew I liked him a lot because he's genuinely sweet, charming, and everything you could want in a guy, he has it."

"It's like... there's a level beyond 'liking,' Chloe. Love is the right word to describe it when you know they're the one."

Our heart to heart session was interrupter when Max called Rose over to introduce her to someone. I gestured for her to go, and she assured me she'd be back.

"Are you okay, bud?" Alex asked sincerely.

Am I that predictable for people to know that I just went through a breakup?

"I'm fine, Alex."

"You don't look fine to me," he smirked, and I wanted to smack his face.

"Where is your wife?"

"She's talking to the girls over there," he pointed at the table across from mine.

"She doesn't get jealous when you're talking to me?" I asked.

"Angel jealous? She rarely gets jealous, Chloe; she trusts me a lot."

"You're the one who gets jealous a lot?"

"Chloe, you're so smart," he patted my head like a dog, and I glared at him.

"Do you love Angel?"

"That's a stupid question, Chloe. Of course, I do; I love her a lot."

"Six out of seven of the 7 Gold Life are getting married... why isn't Kenneth?" I asked.

"He hasn't found the right girl to tame that beast." Suddenly, I really felt the urge to get a drink; I was in a pretty low place.

"Where's your usual spot to hang out?" I asked Alex.

"Why the sudden interest?"

"I'm in the mood for a drink right now; I'm feeling down, in case you didn't notice," I replied in an annoyed tone.

"Cry it out... I'm here."

"I'm not going to cry. Come on, just tell me the nearest club or name one, so I can go there," I pleaded. Alex turned his head.

"Ken!"

Oh no. Not again.

"What?" Ken walked over to us.

"Chloe wants to go for a drink; can you take her to our usual club?" Alex said, and Ken turned to me.

"Jack's place?"

"I'll let him know... just keep her company," Alex said.

"Let's go, then," Ken said, and I got up from my seat, following him out. We waited for his car to arrive; he gestured for me to get inside, and he walked to the driver's side.

"Do you really need to drink?" he asked.

"Yeah."

"So you owe me one." I turned to him.

"What do you want? Lunch? Dinner?"

"I'll save that for later," he smirked, and why did my heart start doing somersaults? I turned away and focused on the road ahead.

The ride to the club was filled with silence. Before long, we arrived at the club. I stepped out of the car and looked at the entrance.

"Come on," Ken said, and I followed him inside. As he walked ahead, he veered to the right, which puzzled me. The main entrance was to the left, so why was he heading toward a small lift?

"So, are you coming or not?" he asked as he stepped into the lift.

"This is so small!" I remarked, eyeing the cramped space.

"Just get in, Chloe." I found myself reluctantly stepping into the tiny lift. It was snug, and my back ended up against Ken's chest. He took something out of his wallet.

"Tap it there and press 2," he instructed, handing me a gold card with his name on it. I quickly followed his directions, tapping the card and selecting the second floor.

"Here," I said, returning his card, and the lift began its ascent. The atmosphere inside the elevator suddenly felt charged, and I wasted no time in stepping out as soon as the doors opened.

Ken led me to a private room and held the door open for me. It was a pleasant surprise to find a cozy space with a sofa surrounding a table in the center. The table was adorned with an assortment of alcohol, and I couldn't help but smile at the sight of so many drink options.

I quickly opened a bottle and poured its contents into a small glass, downing it in one shot. I sensed Ken sitting a few spaces away from me. I continued to drink, one glass after another... I needed more until Ken gently took away my glass.

"You've had enough," he said, and I could feel myself getting a bit tipsy. I turned to him and simply gazed at his handsome face.

"I need more," I pouted, reaching for another glass. I started pouring the drink, but Ken halted my hand. I turned to find Ken's face just inches away from mine.

"Stop, Chloe," he warned, but my eyes were drawn to his lips. I gazed into his eyes, feeling an irresistible pull toward him. Before I could think, I pressed my lips to his.

He kissed me back as soon as my lips landed on his. The kiss was fast and hard. I ran my hands through his hair, and he pulled me to his lap. Circling my legs around his waist, his hands were all over my back.

Feeling his touch against my skin made me shiver and his lips were amazing. He pulled me closer until there's no gap between us. His hands was slowly caressing my thigh and they started to go up little by little.

I felt his warm hands on my arse.. I don't know why I kept kissing him. He tasted amazing and I never felt this awesome tension before. Never.. Xander never gave me this kind of tension before.

I can continue this forever.
