Bloody Odyssey

Chapter 51: Parasitic seed.

Chapter 51: Parasitic seed.

01 moved with a burst of speed—poison seeping from the jagged edge of his cutlass in thin, glistening trails that hissed against the air. He advanced with nimble, almost serpentine steps, body low and coiled like a predator that had forgotten how to fear.

He swung the blade in a wide, dangerous arc—goblin art woven into the motion: low center of gravity, deceptive reach, venom dripping from the tip to form a trailing crescent of green mist. The cutlass howled as it cut through the wind.

Zain was a beast in response. He held his spear at the very edge of its haft, turning the weapon into an extension of his arm. With a sharp twist he met the arc head-on—spinning his spear into a wide, countering sweep that carried the full momentum of his silver-armored frame.

Clang!

Their blades connected in a shower of sparks that lit the alien sky like dying stars. The impact rang out across the battlefield—deep, resonant, shaking loose pebbles from nearby spires.

In that same heartbeat a bright figure materialized beside 01.

Nadia.

Her eyes were calm, almost serene. 01's gaze followed the movement, but reaction lagged by a fraction of a second—too slow.

Her palm thrust forward.

A blast of pure radiant force slammed into 01's side. The towering goblin was hurled meters into the air—body tumbling, limbs flailing, cutlass spinning wildly in its grip.

Disoriented mid-flight, 01 tried to right itself—twisting with desperate grace. Poison spun outward from its pores in a protective cloud. But it was too late.

A crackling sonic boom erupted behind it.

Zain was there—trident spear already thrusting, silver lightning arcing along the tines. 01's ear twitched once—instinctual warning.

Clang!

The cutlass blocked—barely. Sparks flew in every direction. The lightning covering Zain's spear traveled through the metal, jumping into 01's body like living current.

"Ahhh!"

The scream tore from 01's throat—deep, guttural, shaking the ground. The goblin froze in place, muscles locked, venom dripping faster from its pores as though the body itself were boiling.

Nadia appeared above—descending like a falling star. She rained a series of heavy barrages—palms striking with precise, devastating force. Each blow landed with the weight of sunlight condensed into fists. 01's massive frame rocked under the assault, ribs creaking, green blood spraying from its mouth.

Dax's eyes narrowed from above.

Its brain has been tweaked to the absolute limit… or is Nadia simply too much for it?

He caught something then—a subtle shift in 01's aura.

The goblin burst outward with poison—like an octopus escaping in a cloud of ink. Thick green mist exploded in every direction, forcing Nadia back a step. The venom hung heavy in the air, corrosive, alive.

"Poison?" Nadia glanced upward at Dax, voice calm despite the burning in her lungs. "Goblins are not meant to be this strong."

01 rose slowly to its feet.

Then—without hesitation—it brought the cutlass down on its own slender arm.

Thud.

The blade bit deep—stopping at bone level. It began to saw.

Amber eyes turned venom-green—pupils narrowing to slits, irises glowing like liquid toxin. It wailed with exaggerated pain—ears flapping wildly, venom pouring from every pore in thick rivulets.

It's poisoning itself? Zain halted mid-step, spear still raised. He watched the creature's aura spike dangerously—unstable, explosive.

"Get ready," Nadia warned. "He is using mana."

Thud.

The arm dropped to the ground—dissolving almost instantly into bubbling green sludge.

01 panted heavily—chest heaving, breath fogging with venom. It raised the missing limb. In less than a second flesh bubbled, bone regrew, skin knit. The arm was whole again.

It smiled—wide, jagged, demonic.

Then it stabbed the cutlass into the ground—gripping the hilt with both hands. With a slight grunt its leg rose—displaying terrifying balance. The limb arced high, muscles coiling like steel cables.

With terrible speed it descended.

The momentum of the kick pulled the cutlass upward—slamming it into the earth with earth-shattering force.

Boom!

The damage was massive.

A crater erupted beneath the blade—rubble exploding outward, dust billowing in a choking cloud that swallowed Zain and Nadia whole. The shockwave rolled across the battlefield, cracking nearby spires and sending smaller rocks tumbling.

Zain and Nadia leaped clear—coughing violently as they broke through the top of the dust cloud.

The coughing didn't stop.

Blood flecked their lips.

"He mixed poison with the dust," Nadia said, eyes sharp despite the pain. "This thing is intelligent."

She looked for a solution—always calm, always calculating.

"Zain," she said. "I can purify this poison from us, but I need you to cover me. This venom is eating at our organs—cough!"

Her face paled further, hand pressing to her side.

"On it, Madam Nadia."

Zain turned into a stream of lightning—silver arcs crackling around him. He crossed blades with 01 in a blur of motion.

Arg.

He coughed blood—turning back toward Nadia.

She's still chanting?

The back of his head tingled—sharp, insistent.

Accept me.

A child-like voice echoed inside his skull—soft, familiar, patient.

He had heard it before. He ignored it, continuing to clash—spear meeting cutlass in a storm of sparks and venom.

Suddenly a refreshing light washed over him—warm, cleansing. The negative effects of the poison lifted—lungs clearing, blood no longer rising in his throat, strength returning in a gentle wave.

Nadia's purifying light had reached him.

But 01 moved fast.

In that second Zain saw a chance.

He pulled his spear back.

"Lightning Chronicles," he whispered.

The sky cracked.

A dangerous thunderstorm brewed overhead—clouds boiling black and silver, lightning forking in jagged veins. The air itself grew heavy, charged, electric.

01 stabbed—cutlass thrusting with blinding speed.

Zain dodged by a hair's breadth—twisting aside—but 01 didn't let go. The blade sawed downward, cutting deep into the side of Zain's torso.

Pain surged through his mind—white-hot, blinding. Blood poured from the wound, soaking his armor. He grunted, trying to hold it in, but more came—spilling between his fingers as he pressed against the gash.

Nadia increased her purifying light—hands still occupied, radiance pouring into him—but the corrosive effect of the goblin venom outpaced the healing. Flesh sizzled; the wound smoked faintly.

In the distance the others fighting paused—with the exception of Mimi, who remained locked in her own battle far away. Even the goblins stopped—watching their leader's glorious performance with wide, reverent eyes.

The lightning brewing in the sky rumbled—crackling with immense pressure.

"Zain!" Hanna screamed. "Get out of the way!"

She and Anastas tried to move—rushing forward through the chaos.

Nadia continued to heal—hands glowing, face pale with effort.

Up above, Dax smiled with contempt—slow, cold.

What will you do, Zain?

Powerful streams of thunder rushed downward—jagged bolts of silver-white fury, aimed straight for Zain with dangerous momentum.

Just when they were about to strike—

Zain spoke—barely audible, voice raw with pain and resolve.

"I accept."
