Chapter 262: Rewriting Spell

Chapter 262: Rewriting Spell

It was quite dark inside the cave. It would be completely dark if it weren’t for the ice crystals protruding out of the walls.

The icy crystals were shining slightly. Almost like there was something inside of them that was glowing.

At that moment.

An icy-colored short-limbed creature plucked one of the crystals from the wall and tried taking a bite out of it.

However.

The creature’s yellow, rotting teeth couldn’t break through the crystal’s hard surface, and then it tried licking it like a popsicle instead.

"Ugah?"

Ice Goblin looked at the crystal with a frown. It didn’t taste good. It was the complete opposite of sweet.

It then tossed it aside.

"Ura gama romoki!"

A couple Ice Goblins sat around a tree stump. Rolling tiny rocks. It was some kind of gambling game.

One of the Ice Goblins let out a cry of defeat and slammed its tiny fist on the tree stump and angrily looked at the gloating winner.

It looked like a fight was about to break.

But then...

Swoosh~!

Out of nowhere, a sharp iron arrow pierced through the side of the gloating winner and made it drop dead to the ground.

Shocked.

The two Ice Goblins looked at the dead in front of them, slow to realize that it had died, and then two more arrows came and struck them down as well.

"They are the only ones that I can sense."

One of the Rangers walked out of the darkness and told Fang Raon, who took a quick glimpse at the dead Ice Goblins.

"They’ll turn to pixels soon, so we don’t have to hide these ones if there is no danger of anyone finding them within the next couple of minutes."

Fang Raon said.

The reason why he told the Assassins to hide the Ice Goblins that guarded the barricade was because there was a chance that one of these three Ice Goblins might stumble into them.

However.

Since there were no Ice Goblins anywhere near, they could just let these corpses be and wait for them to turn to pixels.

"This is quite easy, no? I thought that there would be more security, like those local guards over at the village said."

One of the players said.

"It’s goblins we’re talking about. Arrogant and stupid race. They probably thought that six of them would be enough to ward off any intruders."

A short-haired player concluded.

’Arrogant and stupid race? These goblins are probably thinking the same about us humans. We cannot afford to underestimate them.’

Fang Raon thought.

He then turned around and looked deeper into the dimly lit tunnel.

The crystals were some help to see ahead, but there were dark spots everywhere where the light didn’t quite reach.

"I assume that the Ice Goblins have made several checkpoints in the tunnel, guarded by several goblins. The deeper we go, more guards there might be."

He said.

"What should we do, boss?"

One of the players asked.

"...Give a moment."

Fang Raon said, and he sat down on the tree stump, and he took out his gray grimoire and manifested a feather pen from one of its pages.

’This is Rewrite Grimoire. I know what to do. Minion Summon lets me summon fire-based goblins. What if I change it into Ice Goblins instead?’

He thought.

He hadn’t been testing the rewriting yet, and he didn’t know whether he was doing it correctly, but he thought it was a good time to test it out!

Other players stayed alert. They made a tiny perimeter to make sure that no one could come close to them undetected.

Meanwhile.

Fang Raon started writing the next text on the Minion Summon page, getting rid of the Fire Goblins, and replacing them with Ice Goblins.

The drawn picture on the page slowly changed. The goblins with flames engulfing their bodies disappeared.

They were replaced by pointy-eared goblins with ice-blue skin, hair as white as snow, and icicles as weapons.

"Alright..."

He waved his hand, and the feather pen disappeared from his hand, and he then kept the Minion Summon page open.

"Minion Summon..."

He whispered.

In that moment.

Blue light shot out of the page, engulfing the room in a bright glow.

The players looked over in surprise and then saw three pointy-eared creatures jumping out of the grimoire.

"Ice Goblins!"

The players looked frightened, and they pulled out their weapons, but then they saw the Ice Goblins turning around and bowing down in front of the players.

"It is a spell of mine. Calm down."

Fang Raon said.

Hearing that, the players slowly lowered their weapons.

"You have the Rewrite Grimoire."

In that moment, the blue-haired Mage said in total surprise, as she had only heard about such a thing.

"Correct."

Fang Raon said.

While some players hadn’t heard about Rewrite Grimoire, they knew what Raon’s plan was from now on.

He was going to use these Ice Goblins to scout ahead and then use them to kill off all the guards ahead.

It was a really fucking smart idea!

’This guy is smart. I like him!’

’Would the Ice Goblins be able to tell the difference between these fake Ice Goblins? Well, I can’t tell the difference at all. I am sure it will be fine!’

The players thought to themselves.

"Let’s get going."

Fang Raon said, and he let the gray grimoire float beside him while he ordered the Ice Goblins to take the lead.

With their short stubby legs, they moved slowly but steadily. The players followed right behind.

The cave, so far, was just one long tunnel. The ceiling was about five meters high. It was wide enough to fit three carriages side by side.

The deeper they went, warmer it got, actually. Soon, they began to hear the sound of rushing water.

"...Is that water?"

A player said in surprise.

They picked up pace, and shortly afterward, they came across the arched exit of the tunnel. It looked like they came across another chamber.

While crouching, they inched closer to the entrance and then peeked inside the chamber, and they didn’t like what they saw.

The chamber felt like a pocket world. It had a small forest with rivers running through it and a tiny mountain.

It sadly wasn’t unoccupied.

Ice Goblins had made it their home. It had a small wooden fortress built at the center of the chamber.

Even now, the Ice Goblins were cutting off trees with sharp axes.

Sadly, the beautiful pocket world was being destroyed by them, but the Ice Goblins didn’t seem to care about the environment.

Some Ice Goblins were over at the river, snatching fishes from the water with just their bare hands, and ate them raw.

"There is another tunnel."

A player pointed at the other side of the chamber. There was indeed another tunnel that led deeper into the cave.

"...This is a checkpoint you mentioned?"

A player asked.

"...Yeah, I just didn’t expect something like this. There must be a couple dozen Ice Goblins here, at least."

Fang Raon said with a troubled look.

Now, his three Ice Goblin summons didn’t look all that threatening anymore. They were greatly outnumbered.

"And look."

A sharp-eyed Ranger pointed towards a bell in the middle of the fortress. It was the warning bell.

"Can they even hear the warning bell?"

A player asked.

"...I think I know what that bell. It’s the Forever Echoing Bell. It can be heard from miles away."

A troubled-looking player said.

’If we’re careless, we’ll be fucked.’

Fang Raon thought with a frown.

But then, he had an idea, and he looked at his three Ice Goblins, who just stared ahead blankly with their icy eyes.

They didn’t seem to care that there were other Ice Goblins. They were no family to them. They would kill them without hesitation.

"I have an idea."

Fang Raon turned to the players, and they turned their attention to him, eagerly listening to every word.

"I’ll make my Ice Goblins go there, and they’ll snatch the Forever Echoing Bell. Once we have it, we can just do a frontal attack and kill off the Ice Goblins without worrying about them warning the others."

He said.

"...I like the sound of that."

"...Yeah, let’s do that."

"...Good idea!"

The players agreed with it.

Without further ado, Fang Raon gave the summons a quick order, and they started making their way to the fortress.

This was his first time giving an actual complex order to his summons, so he was just hoping that they understood it.

The Ice Goblin summons trekked down the grassy field. Their tiny feet left small icy footprints in the grass.

"Uragh?!"

In that moment, some of the Ice Goblins noticed them and shouted something, but the minions didn’t answer back.

’I don’t know goblin language, so I can’t possibly answer back.’

Fang Raon thought with a dark look.

He just hoped that the real Ice Goblins would leave the summons alone, but in that moment, the fortress door opened up.

A couple of armed Ice Goblins stepped out. They approached the summons. They shouted something.

Saliva flew out of their mouth as they seemed really angry about something, and the summons just stared at them blankly.

"...Arag?"

The Ice Goblins tilted their heads in confusion as the summons didn’t seem to react to anything that they said.

"Oguh?"

One of the Ice Goblins twirled its finger near its temple, as if it were saying, "Maybe they have a screw loose in their heads?"

In that moment.

The summons just walked past them, bumping shoulders with them, and the Ice Goblins looked at them strangely.

They then shrugged their shoulders and returned back to their posts, not giving the summons a second glance.

Meanwhile...

The summons was heading straight for the bell. It was unprotected. Right open for taking in the middle of the fortress.
