Chapter 241: Dangerous Quest

Chapter 241: Dangerous Quest

1st floor, the First City, the Adventurer’s Guild.

It was late in the night, and thus, it was dark outside, but with the help of the dimly lit lanterns lining the streets, it wasn’t that dark.

The locals still remembered the days when there weren’t these lanterns and how one had to walk with a torch to light the way.

But ever since the arrival of players, things had changed, and they helped to create these lanterns.

While the light was dim in the lanterns, it gave ambiance to the dark streets and gave a type of mysterious charm to the place.

Currently, inside the Adventurer’s Guild.

"...More beer!"

"...Meat, I want meat!"

Violin music played in the background, and the players enjoyed their late night after finishing their daily quests.

With beer and food in hand, they played cards, and some of the newer players were trying to learn the General’s Game.

They were scratching their heads as they were trying to make their soldiers move.

At one of the tables, a man who looked like an officer worker looked at the pint of beer on the table.

"Here we go!"

At that moment, two of his friends sat down on the same table, both of them holding their beers with excitement.

"What’s wrong, Thomas?"

One of the office worker’s friends asked after seeing him just stare at the pint of beer like he was hypnotized.

"Oh, nothing."

Thomas shook his head and took a sip of the beer and then let out an exaggerated sigh.

"Well, we spent all the money we earned today to buy this beer and food, but I’d say money well spent!"

His friend laughed, and with one hand, he drank the beer, and on the other hand, he grabbed skewered chicken to stuff into his mouth.

Back in the real world, they were office workers, just working at some corporation to pay the bills, and they befriended each other there.

A few days ago, they all decided to hop on Black Online together for fun, but since they were working during the days, they could only pay later at night.

None of them had families, girlfriends, or any social life really, so it worked well since there was nothing else for them to do.

Today, they did some easy quests.

It earned them a little bit of money, and they spent it all on the food and the beer.

"I think we should be more careful tomorrow."

Thomas said.

"...What do you mean?"

One of his drunken friends asked.

They had work tomorrow, so they couldn’t possibly get drunk and be all hungover tomorrow, but luckily for them, they can do that inside Black Online!

Which was why they decided to now drink!

"I’ve heard that there are some Bandit Players roaming about. They’re ambushing players near the forest and the tower.

"I don’t think we can afford new game cards, so let’s be careful, yeah?"

Thomas said.

"What if we just kill them, kehehehe?"

One of his friends said with boastful laughter, and because of the beer, he was vastly overestimating his own capabilities.

"I agree with Thomas. Maybe we should start in the safe zone. I heard that some players go to the sewer to hunt down some Angry Rats."

Another friend of his said.

"I don’t want to go to some sewer. That’s disgusting!"

The drunk friend said.

While they were talking, the door of the Adventurer’s Guild opened, and a pair of a young woman and a young man entered.

The young woman was beautiful. She was wearing light armor, but she had a huge sword strapped to her back.

The young man, on the other hand, was just wearing a brown robe, as if their roles were completely reversed.

"The mission board is there!"

Anna excitedly shouted, and then she skipped towards the board while Fang Raon slowly followed behind her.

They caught the eye of some players. New players, they all thought.

"...What a beauty, aye. Should I try my shot? Do you think I have a chance?"

The drunk friend pointed at himself.

Thomas and his friend looked at him and then turned to look at the pretty young woman.

They immediately thought, ’Hell no!’

Their drunken friend had no chance. He might as well not even try.

He was short, had a lazy eye, and wasn’t stylish at all, and his hair looked like a crow’s nest. Not to mention that his breath was smelling like alcohol and meat.

"I’ll... Burp... Go try..."

He was about to stand up, but then Thomas dragged him back to the chair, saying, "Don’t embarrass yourself!"

Meanwhile.

Anna tapped her chin as she looked at all the quests on the mission board, and then at last, she found the quest she was looking for.

It had a poster that was more high-quality than other quests on the board, and the reward was also more significant.

She took it off the board and rolled it up.

"Let’s go!"

She excitedly said to her brother.

"Mmh."

Fang Raon followed her to the desk, where a female receptionist was sitting, smiling warmly at them.

"I’d like to take this quest!"

Anna said and placed the quest poster on the desk, and the receptionist said, "Okay~" and then unrolled the poster.

At that moment.

She saw what quest it was, and her face changed colors, and she looked at the young woman in front of her.

"Are you really sure you want to take the King Angry Rat quest? It’s an S-ranked quest, and only three parties have ever cleared it."

The female receptionist asked with a tone of worry.

She wasn’t as quiet as she intended to be, and the players all around the Adventurer’s Guild heard her words.

They looked at the young woman and young man.

In that moment, loud laughter went off.

"Hahahahaha, are they nuts?!"

"They are seriously taking on the King Angry Rat quest? They are suicidal fools!"

"Did they really just take that quest because it had the largest reward? Morons! It is an infamously difficult quest!"

The players laughed.

"...King Angry Rat quest."

Thomas let in cold breath and shook his head, as he thought that those two were very foolish.

"I am sure!"

Anna said with a smile.

She didn’t care about everyone making fun of them, as they didn’t know anything about her and her brother.

If they knew that her identity was Fang Anna, the infamous leader of the Anna’s Angels, they would shut the hell up.

"I-I need your entire party to accept this quest. It is a special quest, after all. Can you go get everyone else?"

The female receptionist said.

"You’re already looking at them."

Anna said with a smile.

With a blank look, the female receptionist looked at Anna and Raon.

There were only two of them... They were indeed lunatics... The three parties that cleared the quest always had ten people in the party.

Going with just two was absolutely crazy!

"Hahahaha, they are only going with two?!"

"Idiots!"

"Tch, tch, maybe they are just idiots or they have money to spare to purchase new game cards if they die, so they don’t care as much!"

The female receptionist’s head was slightly spinning, but she didn’t have any reason to refuse them taking this quest.

Therefore.

She wrote their names down and handed the quest poster back to Anna.

"We need King Angry Rat’s head to confirm that you’ve successfully cleared the quest. Godspeed to the two of you."

She put her hand on her chest and bowed.

Anna smiled and left the guild with Fang Raon, and after they left, some players drew crosses on their chest.

"Well, they are dead."

"It’s not only defeating King Angry Rat that is difficult. He slumbers at the deepest part of the sewer, and to get there, they need to fight through hordes of Angry Rats."

"It looked like that girl might’ve been a Warrior or Tank class. She’ll be fine, I think, but the problem is that guy with her. New players simply don’t have enough mana to defeat King Angry Rat."

"Yeah. That guy was Mage. He would need to let that girl do all the fighting while reserving his mana for King Angry Rat. And even if they miraculously kill the thing, they still have to get out while being injured and out of mana!"

"Yeah, somehow that girl has to do all the fighting. While Angry Rats are pretty weak, they are always together, so it is easy to get overwhelmed by them."

"Will that girl be able to defeat them all? She might exhaust herself way before they even reach the King Angry Rat."

"...They’re definitely dead."

The players have already decided that those two were dead, and if they were going to see them again, it would be on new characters.

...

Walking down the dimly lit streets, Fang Raon followed behind the excited-looking Anna, who was skipping about.

"We’re really doing this with just two of us?"

He asked.

He didn’t think it was the smartest move, as he doubted that he had enough mana to take on the dangerous quest.

"Yes, it’ll be fine!"

Anna said with a smile.

She didn’t say it, but she just didn’t want anybody else around to "third wheel," as she just wanted to spend time with her brother.

However.

She was also more than confident that they could do this quest with just the two of them, but she also left out something else.

This wasn’t actually her first time trying this quest, as she did try it once on her first character actually.

That quest ended in failure, and she died.

Thus, this new character of hers was actually already her third one.

And back then, when she tried the quest, she had a full party of ten people, and they all died as well.

Now, they were only going with just two of them.

However.

She believed that with her brother she could do it. She had almost blind confidence in him. He was not going to fail.
